Miyako the dark haired guitarist is a classically trained pianist since the age of three, picked up guitar at 18 and taught herself to play

In any footage i have seen of Haruna's footwork, she usually is wearing a pair of pink trainers. She puts on heels when the show ends and she comes to the front of the stage. All the ladies are on the small side with Haruna at 4ft 9in.

The drummer, Haruna is her name, is using red sneakers to play her double bass drums and hi-hat. At the end of the show, she changes to high heels and goes to the front of the stage to throw her drumsticks to fhe audience. And to get the final applause together with her bandmates.

Haruna, drums, wears Red Sneakers. She goes "Full Tilt Boogie" for an entire concert, rumor has it she is nuclear powered.. Midori, ponytail, quit Pharmacy school and began playing the guitar at 20 yo. Miyako, black hair, began piano a 3 yo, at 17/18 yo she decided she wanted to play metal guitar. So she got a guitar and a "How To" book at learned, NO lessons. Asami, vocals, studied ballet until her late teens. At 4' 10" she is bit short for ballet, so she became a singer. Sang primarily R&B and Jazz. She knew nothing about metal until Miho, bass & band founder, chose her for Lovebites. They have performed at music festivals in Europe and toured with Dragon Force in England prior to covid.

That's how my reactions when I heard them for the first time....and it's the same with every new song I hear from them....I hope you keep listening to them because they deserve it....

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Lovebites is one of the best bands in our country. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They've become my favorite band. Right there with Nightwish, or even eclipsed them slightly (though I still love Floor and Nightwish). I think Lovebites is the greatest heavy metal band to come along in decades and Midori and Miyako are among the best guitar duos ever to play together. Haruna is unreal on the drums. Miho will be missed for sure, but they added Fami recently. If you come back to them I recommend Thunder Vengeance live from Zepp, or any from the post from TheCyberMantis. Live is best!

when it comes to metal these japanese ladies are top notch, now if you want to step down a notch to hard rock, there is also a 5 piece all ladies band from japan called band maid, and when it comes to rock they are top shelf, i recommend you listen to them live, i would suggest "Domination" Live, like i said when it comes to rock and metal this is who i listen to now

Well done on finding Lovebites... arguably the best metal band of the last decade and, in the opinion of their fanatically loyal fans, one of the best of all time. If you'd like to hear a good song by them, my suggestion is that you write down every song they ever wrote on a piece of paper, close your eyes and stick a pin in it. They're ALL good songs ranging from absolute bangers to metal masterpieces. As to a couple of your questions; Haruna, the drummer, plays famously in a pair of red pumps but is always careful to change into her heels before coming out from behind her kit to acknowledge the crowd. She needs all the height boost her heels can give her since she's only 4' 9" in her stocking feet! The other elephant in the room is the grand piano (actually it's an electric Roland piano dressed up to look like a concert grand). That beast is the baby of the dark haired guitarist on the Dean guitar. Her name is Miyako and she is the (slightly) mad genius at the heart of the band; the main composer and a concert standard classical pianist as well as a world class guitarist. Another phenomenal Japanese female band is Band Maid. They're Jimmy Pages favorite band. He loves the drummer. Again, another Japanese band the Rocks hard! The tune "No God" is really good. Listen to Misa's bass lines. Talent on loan from God. Japan still Rocks!

I love what you guys are doing with the Nightwish reactions! Now you are getting introduced to the other amazing pole of the the rock and metal renaissance - Japan! There is a lot of amazing music coming out of Japan right now, and it's an unexpected but amazing feature of the culture that some of the best rock and metal groups are all female bands. Gotta check out Nemophila another girl band from Japan. They're all outstanding musicians. The tune "Life" sort of went viral. It was written to welcome the drummer back from maternity leave. It's premise is about becoming a mother. Not representative of the girls music. They're Metal!

Great drum dynamics. They favor '80s metal influences, Thrash to ballad, power-metal, fast, hard, but with melodic lyrics of stark-truths to self-empowerment & personal-responsibility. They feature individual guitar solos in every song, harmony duet only lacking in a handful, though harmonized 'rhythm' parts are common (tremolo-picked, palm-muted, arpeggios). btw, drummer Haruna wears red sneakers when playing, changes to 'heels' when joining her bandmates for traditional group bow after encore.
