Is it only me, but I actually like this version slightly better than the one from "Knockin' at Heaven's Gate". I feel the mixing of both lead guitars is a lot crispier and clearer.

Tough call. Agree about the guitars and the piano adds so much to the sadness of the song. But the acapella by Asami in the newer version is special as it shows her voice so well. Also, the fact that it is played before a live participating audience is a additional plus. Fami stays true to the original bass part. This brings me to the conclusion of liking both for different reasons. Make sense?

@@richardcottrell2787 Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Don't get me wrong, I really like the KAHG version, I just prefer the mixing of the Abyss version a bit more.

@@rantandchill9503 The thing is, if you listen to the track on DVD or blu-ray, then the rather low mix of Midori's guitar becomes much louder and clearer. I believe the mixing and mastering are optimized for physical media (blu-ray/DVD/CD). So when we listen to this song on YT, the digital compression algorithms somehow lowered slightly the quality of parts of the song.

The piano intro is so good! Awesome song, maybe i like the new live version a bit more (the sound mix), but this one has the piano intro so it's a tie! 🤘

Yes, different/higher caliber musician but next level songwriting is what does it for me. I have yet to find anything comparable, especially in Japanese female bands.
