The band is named after the Grammy winning Halestorm song Love Bites (So Do I). Lead singer Asami has joined Lzzy and the boys on stage to sing that song.

Congratulations on finally drawing the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their five years of existence as a band, they set a standard that easily puts them on a par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels sent to save us, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. Whatever the description, I think one can say they have given metal a badly needed makeover and maybe a new lease on life. They have themselves said that part of their mission is to save heavy metal from darkness and obscurity. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and soul of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the greatest European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other bands. The whole group then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed most of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics. They studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance is that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. You jumped in the deep end with this as your first reaction. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like a demon). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." GREAT reaction video dudes. What I really like about Lovebites is that they take the sound/spirit of 80's to mid-90's Speed and Thrash Metal, as well as several of the top bands from that era (such as Metallica and Iron Maiden and Megadeth, as well as slightly a bit of Overkill and Slayer and Anthrax and Testament and even a hint of Bolt Thrower), incorporate their own style into that mix and then make it their own unique style. I've also noticed that the two guitarists (Miyako and Midori) use their different styles of playing to kind of push each other to even greater heights. In my opinion in contrast to many of the recent 'so-called' Metal bands that have come around in the last decade or so Lovebites has not only set the bar on what Heavy Metal should sound like, they ARE the bar. Kemper user here (for a good few years now), and it's definitely a good idea to run directly to front-of-house with them. The cab models are really good, and you can match a lot of different cabs to whatever amp profile you're using. I just run a 1x12 powered cab on an angle-back stand for stage monitoring (unless I really trust the venue engineer to make my guitar audible in my stage monitor). Excellent reaction. Lovebites are the real deal. As are so many Japanese metal bands, a scene in which a lot of female bands/players really stand out. Some all-female J-metal bands y'all might enjoy if you haven't heard them already: Nemophila, Hagane, Hanabie, Bridear, Little Lilith, Doll$Boxx, Mary's Blood, Aldious, Full Moon, Madaseka. From more on the hard rock end, everyone of course calls out Band-Maid, but also Whiskey Dust (old-school LA style sleaze rock ftw!), Trident (the new track, "Spoopy," is really proggy), Gacharic Spin (heavy funk influence, 'specially in the rhythm section), and more. Female players in coed bands that stand out are Fuki and Jill (vocals and violin in symphonic metal standouts Unlucky Morpheus), HAL-CA (guitar shredder in instrumental trio Asterism), Wata (guitar sorceress in long-running doom band Boris). Seriously, the Japanese scene for heavy music is doing great things.

LOVEBITES is a wonderful band that Japan is proud of. I am happy that these girls are recognized by foreigners as a Japanese person.

asami can sing without any im not going to spell itbecause i wont come close but i believe it starts with a V when you were comparing to her to bruce dickensons from iron maiden which if you didnt know Miho the bassist who is the founder and leader is a huge iron maiden fan and molded their sound after them but asami can also sing many different ways

Midori (Blond ponytail) picked the guitar when she was 20yo and Miyako (black hair) picked up the guitar at 17/18yo, no lessons, got a guitar and a "how to" book. Miho (bass) founder of the band with Haruna has left the band. So they put out a worldwide search, now at the review of audition recording with final decision in August. Miyako switched toEVH 5150's. They're a knockoff of Soldano SLO's,. EVH bought 3 SLO's un 1 week and aent one to Peavy. End of atory. The Soldano SLO's are badass. Wish I was gigging one. Miyako is a virtuoso. She gas a new overdrive pedal as well. It's difficult to keep up with pedals. I have an assortment of boosters-l love the Klon tone. Add a couple of overdrives,. it's nice to have different dirt. I miss the old days; 100 watt Marshalls and a Rat and a Boss. Simple Arkane has an ample oedal board. She running-or was running an Ep booster, awesome. some..light crunch.
