Made an impromptu visit to this railfan hotspot on this lovely mild winter day. Saw plenty of freight and passenger action here. All trains identified

My father was a railway fan and took me for train spotting before I was ten years old, fifty years ago in the early seventies. What a great remembrance. Much later we swapped the roles, but never gave up that obsession. Even silent tracks have got that special something when there is no train anywhere in sight. Only some people can understand this. Thanks for sharing your videos.

Every time I see a gauntlet track I think of that 1950 Rockville Centre crash on the LIRR that killed like 30-some people. I believe they were removing the grade crossings back then and had to create a gauntlet track to run the regular trains. And later on that year, there was an even deadlier crash in Kew Gardens.

Thank you for your film. The ALP 45DP look good in your video. You can pay attention to it, but the last 5 locomotives of this series will no longer be Bombardier but Alstom. The Bombardier plant in Kassel/ Germany where the ALP45 DP is built has been sold to Alstom with a few other bombardier plants. Greetings from Berlin/ Germany. Sven

@@3985uprr Yes, the ALP 46 and ALP 45DP have their roots and basis in the German 101 series. The 101 runs in Germany in front of Intercity and Eurocity trains. However, the first machines of the 101 have already been scrapped at Bender in Leverkusen-Opladen.

Nice shots! Union is a pretty good spot. But when I'm here I usually stand west of the station where a gravel road adjacent to the tracks gives me some space between the trains and myself and the views aren't obstructed by all the stuff on the platform. I also like like the low-level angle better. And I've asked a few people and no, it's not trespassing.

25:50 I was on 5735 yesterday, riding in a vestibule near the front, so I was well positioned to say those double PL42's only smelled slightly better than the garbage train. Those two have been working together for months and I can only assume from the smell of things that they're working together because one has some kind of engine fault that makes it consume a lot of oil.

I rode on many of those EM cars. Smooth riding, comfortable, and they sounded solid on jointed rail. They even made a few into Dayniter cars. Those were real nice on the inside. The first time I rode on one was September 1972 on the Cavalier to Toronto. That evening USSR humiliated Canada 7-3 in game 1 of Summit Series. The train was like a morgue.

It seems that since the FAA mandated PTC for all American railroads, all NJTransit Comet sets have been led by Comet V cab cars with Comet II/III/IV trailers. It seems NJTransit upgraded their Comet V cab cars to include PTC compliance but haven't touched the older cab cars, as I haven't seen Comet II/III/IV cab cars leading any train since.

Just a minor correction: at 19:42 and at 21:11 you mentioned train "5472", when in fact it was 5742. Trains that run between High Bridge and Newark have "57XX" train numbers. Trains between Raritan and Newark have "54XX" train numbers.
