INTP: *feels emotion*: Am I INFP?

I'm an INTP and my best friend is INFP. We are both artists and writers, but we approach these things differently. I carefully plan my plot arcs for maximum emotional impact, because *the system works*, and I write as concisely as possible. He starts with emotions and lets the plot follow from that, and lets the words flow much more smoothly. In drawing, I use a ruler and references, and spend hours perfecting details, while he makes a quick outline and sculpts the shape as it goes along, ending up with a less precise but still effective piece of art. I think we both learn a lot from each other but still have our different preferences. This video sums it up quite well!

I still have no goddamn clue which one I am. INTP makes more sense, but INFP just feels right. Kinda ironic.

I’ve been mistyped as an INFP before, mostly I think because I don’t fit the INTP stereotype of being a heartless robot who doesn’t compute emotions. I know for a fact I’m an INTP by looking at the order of functions compared between the two types, INTP’s functions make more sense/feel more relatable to me than INFP’s. I used to really struggle to put myself in other people’s shoes as a kid, I used to be really puzzled as to why people reacted the way they did to certain things, both things I said and did but also what other people said and did. I decided to make a conscious effort to learn more about how to read and empathise with people, because I recognised it as an incredibly valuable skill to have. I wanted to be able to relate to people more, to feel more human. I wanted to be a good person, and I realised in order to do that I have to be more sensitive and receptive to other people’s emotions, even though it’s not something I’m instinctively attuned to. I worked really hard to force myself to see things from other people’s perspective, after all, I love considering things from new angles. It took a while, but eventually it became second nature to me to be in touch with the feelings of people around me, and factor that in to my decision making processes. I still really struggle with dealing with my own emotions, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come in terms of understanding other people. Emotions are not really something that’s inherently important to me, but I know they’re important to other people so it’s hardly a waste of my time trying to understand them and read them better. Now I feel like my levels of empathy are probably higher than most people’s tbh, and I guess it helps being someone who’s super emotional myself.

I argue and talk like an INTP but I'm inside I'm a crying INFP

One is bad at math. One isn't.

I took the test 16 personalities test twice. The first time I got INFP and second time I got INTP. The third letter was 50/50 though. It makes sense though. I have a masters in mathematics and I like to analyze things. At the same time, I have been playing the piano for over 25 years and I love the being creative and emotional.

This question has been tormenting me a lot recently.... Ti and Fi just seem so similar and maybe that's why people mention that your top function is connected to your bottom function (8th function). Did I, as an INTP, choose to approach life in a logical/Ti way because that is simply my nature, or because I VALUE (Fi) logical thinking? It seems to me that they coexist and that one can't live without the other. Fi drives my Ti and in the case of INFPs, Ti can sometimes drive their Fi as well (It seems to be that following your emotions can be the most rational approach in some cases). Anyways, the point is: they appear to be two flavors of the same thing and it has been confusing for me to distinguish between the two. (same happens with Te and Fe). Arguing with an INFP:

I still can't tell if I'm an INTP or a depressed and cold INFP LOL. I can't tell if I'm convincing myself and acting as an INTP as a defence mechanism when truly I'm an INFP on the inside. I can identify with nearly all of INTP traits but some of the INFP values too. I get more and more confused the more I research this oh my god it pisses me off that I feel like I don't understand who I am and I have no sense of identity

Emotions weigh on INFP's decisions but feelings aren't exactly emotions within Jung's model. Feelings are rational, slow, and a form of reasoning that isn't focused on whether something is correct/incorrect, true/false but rather how important it is, how much it means, etc. (and that's where emotions play a role).

INFP. I’ve always admired people who have linear thought process and can write their thoughts fallowing some consecutive structures.

Now I’m wondering about the difference between an infp with a high iq and an intp. I intuitively see logical flaws in things people say, and I’ve always hated the “status/popularity game”, and grew up as the smart kid. But I don’t really see the world from a place of cold logic. It seems that my immediate instincts are to go towards logic but my emotions and values immediately yank on me. I’m good at being detached, but I’m also empathetic and very sensitive. And I express myself through art because I can’t explain myself. My parents used to joke about my head being constantly in the clouds. This turned into a ramble but idk

Welp I've officially lost my sense of identity am I an INTP or am I an INFP?

Me an intp and my friend an infp are listening. But i think just by looking at us, and our behaviour, its very clear. She is awesome. And I'm emotionally dead.

Still... this is so broad... I think I could be an INFP because I’m not very structured and I always choose harmony instead of fights, but I suck at writing and ,more often than not, I’m much more rational than most people around me, i think that even though I have my personal values , I don’t impose them on other people and I always keep an open mind seeing things from many different perspectives often even abdicating my feelings to make a decision.

it honestly depends on the situation, i generally fit into intp tendencies more but I am an artist and escapism is my jam lmao
