Wow, thank you Ms. Hall. I appreciate your taking the time to watch the videos and especially, taking the time to comment. I must admit, sometimes I wonder if folks notice the attention to detail, but I try and turn out work that I'd want to see, if I didn't know how to do a particular fix. Your comments make it worthwhile and you don't know what it means to me. Dean

Thank you so much! This was very helpful. Fortunately for us it was the passenger side, which is easier to get to, but still close and you need to “feel” your way in twisting the assembly out and putting it back - so it was wonderful to see your model. In looking at the driver’s side, I wondered, it seemed like you could leave the stiff bright silver tubing in place, but unbolt and temporarily move the other part over to access from the top. Not sure if that would work - wondering if you tried that and it turned out removing the wheel well was easier. (Also as a woman, maybe lucky because my hands are small). At any rate. Thank you again so much.
@PilotViewProductions Жыл бұрын
Thanks for viewing and for the complimentary comments Ela-Elizabeth. I'm glad the passenger side was easier for you. Yeah, on mine, the tubing looked like something related to coolant or a/c so I definitely didn't wanna monkey with that. As far as removing other parts up top to try and access the bulb panel: I just didn't see a way outside of taking off parts I wasn't familiar with and trying to advise others the same way. That seemed a bit sketchy and 'what if' I removed something that caused additional problems for people? Better to take the 'long way home' and not risk it. The best 'shortcut' I could advise people might be to leave the wheel on, turn it hard to the outside and just remove the part of the fender liner forward of the wheel, and then reach up under the liner to change the bulb. BTW: thanks for recognizing the helpfulness of the model...that was a pain to build. Dean

As Colombo would say ….ahhhhhh one more thing; ). I just changed out drivers side low beam without wheel removal. I have the om642 diesel in my 2011 e350. If you’ve got small hands, it’s doable. I had to use a piece of rubber gasket to grab the bulb housing and twist… was cutting through my nitrile gloves.
@PilotViewProductions9 ай бұрын
Excellent! Perhaps the diesel configuration may have been a bit different...nevertheless; I felt I had to show the procedure that would fit probably the greatest population of the audience...with normal to larger hands perhaps. If I had 'only' shown a top-down solution, folks would 'fuss' that they couldn't get it done that way cause it was too tight, or they didn't feel comfortable removing OEM air conditioning or other factory parts to get to the bulb.
@j.b.48673 ай бұрын
Thanks for the GREAT Video! Do you think that if one were to turn the wheel to the far left that there would be enough room to perform this procedure without removing the wheel?

A good video, i shall be upgrading these bulbs as the W212 has such bad low beam, My neighbour sold his W212 due to this problem, being older a rarely drive at night now but when i do its a worry hence the upgrade. W212 can suffer rear subframe corrosion leading to failure of the frame, Mercedes will replace the subframe free of charge. RGDS Cheshire UK

Thanks for viewing. Beware of upgrading to LEDs without using resisters. I tried upgrading just the driving lights and they flickered then went out and the car threw a code. Sylvania says I need an inline resister for each bulb upgraded on this year model.

I didn't see it mentioned that the locking tabs are not 180˚ apart, more like 160˚, so the ring is keyed to the housing opening. It may fit in the wrong orientation, but .won't be correct and could possibly come loose later.

@PilotViewProductionsАй бұрын
Sorry, no one here in NC has small hands.....ahem...and I'm fresh out of ideas as to where to borrow a couple. Maybe my granddaughter..."uh, honey, would you try and reach down inside the engine compartment and turn that black cover, then reach inside and remove that bulb?". She's 6, so I don't think she'd be of much help.
@kentalanlee8 ай бұрын
Requiring wheel and liner removal to change a low beam bulb is absolutely horrendous engineering. Why people still seem to think Mercedes is a leader in design is beyond me. They may have, at one point, been good. But these days, it's just expensive. Not well designed at all.
