Gary nice hack I would never have thought of the check valve. This could really help with staying hydrated. If it’s easier to drink we’ll drink more often.

John, thank you. The check valve saves that bottle crushing and I dig the fact that if the cap gets damaged I can just grab another. hope you have a great weekend.

I made one a couple of years ago, and now need to improve it with the check valve, i just have a small hole. Currently as long as i don't bend over it doesn't leak. 😂😂

That check valve makes all the difference in the world. I have moved it around some and toyed with gluing it in as I have lost a couple. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. All the best, Gary.

Hey Gary; Nice use of spare parts ! Personally I gave up on water bladders a long time ago. Same with anything that cannot easily be cleaned out. Hydration is enough of an issue finding water and purifying it without worrying about getting ill from the bottle. That said a small amount of alcohol kills lots of bad stuff in the water :) It saw the seafaring types through for centuries. So having grog is like a “Living History” lesson. Your welcome :) May all of your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.

Oh john, I purify with fire, chem or filter and save the booze for drinking lol. The thing I like best about these is no clean up just throw out (recycle) the bottle and move on but I've only ever bought bladders that open enough to clean efficiently. Hope all is good down there in the Dismal Swamp. All the Best bro, Gary.

@@ConnecticutBackcountry My go to (other than boil) is either a Life Straw or a Sawyer of some type. I also prefer my whiskey ‘neat’ so adding that much water might actually make me shake :) The Dismal Swamp is getting some new access trails and such. While I like the improved access and that they removed a lot of debris & old cars they also took out some of the swamp and so its a bitter sweet. Strange that the old cars blended better in my mind than the walking paths that are being made. Either way its been a few weeks since I went in to check up on the work and to enjoy the swamp. Will send along a few pictures when I do.

I spent way too much $$ on a system like this, wish I had known I could have diy'd it. Great job!

Thanks Sue! Yeah, I was looking at those kits and kinda thought I had the stuff laying around. You could always build a backup one! lol. Hope you are having a great weekend! All the best, Gary.

Thank you! It works well but I haven’t carried it in a bit because it can complicate the setup a bit. The check valve actually makes the setup work well though! Have a great one.

Okay, I am all in on anything low cost...or no cost! lol I'm thinking that it may even work without the check-valve, just would have to make sure to keep the bottle upright! Very good use of bits and pieces! Will have to check my junk drawer and see what goodies it contains as I haven't dumped it out for ages! lol Take good care now and have a great weekend! Bruce and Otis...PS...What happened to the baby gate?? Did some one get a time out? lol
@ConnecticutBackcountry
@ConnecticutBackcountry 2 жыл бұрын
I really dig no cost. There is a kit on amazon that's about $25 but I had the stuff so this is way it is and I can replace the cap, as need be, with ease. Lol, the baby gate was for the kids dog (Frank, a mini dachshund) we were sitting. You can hear his nails clicking in the background at some point. Have a great weekend Bruce and give Otis a scratch for me.

Lazy!!! Lol I had similar set up for bicycling when I was younger and inclined to do that sort of bullshit lol I have never even considered using it for hiking. I might now though, but probably not lol I enjoy the excuse to sit around while sipping water with my pack off

LOL, I understand that but I like to put miles under the feet and stopping when I need a drink sometimes kills that. I remember when I was a kid, I never stopped riding to drink lol.
