I'm 16 and just bought myself a "barn find" with a super cool story behind it. I live in Michigan, and a man from NY who has a hunting cabin here bought a 1974 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe Camper Special K20 to use at this cabin when he was there. I'm the 4th owner, and the second owner stored it for many years, meaning it has 4000 original miles! Everything on It is factory. 350 4bbl, sm465 Muncie 4spd, and an np203 full time 4x4 t case. The truck is super badass and I'm super proud to own it.

I still have dreams about my old '72 Datsun 510, it was the first car I bought after coming home from Vietnam. I was inspired by an article I had read in Car and Driver, while in Vietnam, about all the things that could be done to the car to make it a real road racer. I did all the suspension mods, limited slip 410 rear diff and bought an ex-factory rally engine with 125 HP!! I autocrossed it. beating a lot of expensive sports cars for "fast time of the day." I love this show, keep it coming.

how about 4.111 rear end?- they didn't make a 4.10 my 72 has a 300hp VG motor swap and is a fun stoplight car. it used have a 4-pinion fairlady R180, but i went with the 37/10 R200 viscous rear end from a turbo Z31. it also has cheater 610 trailing arms for longer WB.

no ones going to 'cut it up' - its a four-door car. a big boy who likes to chop and modify is going to want a two-door car even if just because its a hell of a lot easier to get in and out of (and looks better to boot). the only 510 that belongs in MY museum would be the ultra-rare '68 two-door car. anyone who says they have one has to put out and post a pic somewhere.

I find it creepy. Why would someone who drives the car not remove it (88000 miles means that he wasn't keeping it as a garage queen and hoping that it skyrockets up in price). Who is he saving it for? He's only ruining the experience for him self. It's like people that puts seat covers in their car in order to have "nice" seats when selling it.

Worked at a Vauxhall dealers (GM UK) in the mid to late 70's our other branch was a Datsun dealers but they didn't have a bodyshop so all crash repairs came to us , Datsun would force dealers to take bigger cars that didn't sell in the UK likes of the Cedric , Z's and 240 K GTS our company used to put them out on the hire fleet , a mate of my brother had one on perminent hire said it was cheaper than buying a new car , the company dumped Datsun and went over to Peugeot and my hatred of French cars began , not a fan of early Citroen unfortunatly owned a couple of Renault vans only because they were cheap , much prefer Japanese cars even though they did rot like hell , bought and run right off Fiat and that was a nightmare to work on but again it was cheap .

come to shasta lake california during a UFO swap and you can see them- many are for sale. but be warned they sell for big bucks now. a clean, bone-stock 2-door 510 can fetch 45-50K. the only reason they get rusted out is because of the use of corrosive chemicals on icy roads.

hi Tom, in Australia, those Datsuns were simply called the Datsun 1600's, obviously because of the engine size. Back in the 80's, they were a great Rally car here too. Amazingly, where i live now, there is one parked not 2 blocks from where I live, that's the only one I've seen for a long time. Very cool find ! :) Cheers from Australia :)

In 82'' I went from Detroit to Dallas and bought a 72' 510 wagon 4spd. from a Datsun mechanic. He had put in a L20B motor. The car was light n quick. Had fun with it. Even though it did not have the sedans IRS it was reasonably tossable. Quit driving it because I bought a 80' Fairmont wagon w 4spd. The 510 sat for 2 years and rusted quick.

because at some point it was driven in the salt & snow. what a downgrade- from a 2-liter 510 to a fairmont.
@johnmichaelkarma
@johnmichaelkarma Жыл бұрын
The Datsun had very thin "tinny" metal. I washed it religiously in the winter at pressure washers. What it needed was to drive it and have air blow through it to dry it out. By sitting the moisture just hung on to it. In part the Fairmont was a downgrade. It was slow but had "bucket" seats and was roomy,I'm 6'2". One thing about the Fairmont was even with a 4 cylinder it was so loaded up with emissions bullcrap that it was one of the tightest of engine bays of all cars I've owned. After the Fairmont I went to Texas again for a 77' Celica GT Fastback then to Florida for a special edition 80' Celica GT liftback. Then 4 in a row Audis 5000s one a 200 20V intercooled Quatro 5spd I went to Utah for concurrently with 86,88 Turbo 300ZX. Currently have 94 300ZX w/99K miles,20 yr owner and a 07' 328i coupe 6spd w65K miles. Thanks Tom for the comment. I just remembered,I still have the wooden steering wheel with rubber center hub from the 510. 😎

all the datsuns came with the plastic barriers beneath the door trims. most technicians had no reason to remove or disturb the plastic so most of the surviving cars still have theirs. on the sedans i have built, i used painted factory door and rr trims and created new barriers for them. they are essential because the 510 has water management and drains inside the doors- designed to handle the water running down from the glass. if you see a 510 without the plastic thats a red flag and you should look closer.

Looking at the back of the Citroen, I wonder how far the trunk lid can actually open. The sharply canted rear window / roof intrudes so much above the lid that it appears it can only open up to a steep angle. If so, this would be a significant design flaw that would reduce the utility of the car.

Are any of these for sale? The 510 I would love to have and that is my favorite color on it. Actually if the Citroen was for sale at the right price I would take it.

On the 510, is the gas filler up under one of those side "vent" panels? I borrowed a girlfriend's car once, it was very similar to that one except a 2 door. Darned if I could figure out where to put the gas in. I looked "normal" places like behind the license plate, and even tested the taillights thinking it might be like a 57 chevy... no dice.

some 510 guys have skinned-over the flimsy gas door ON THE RH QUARTER PANEL and just put the outer filler/cap directly on the tank filler in the trunk. my sedan is like that. all you had to do was look in the trunk where the fuel tank was. the license plate filler was a moronic GM idea.

Datsun 510! Think about it. Late 60's , early 70's coupe and sedan with fully independent suspension! I had a brand new 71 Coupe in Yellow!

The Citron has the steering wheel with one spoke is because its a safety column not supposed to impale you in a accident!
@tommurphy4307
@tommurphy4307 Жыл бұрын
it would be safer with a multi-spoke wheel as that has nothing to do with the collapsing steering column- and the datsun had such a steering column, as well.

He never said what it was. I could recognize the Buick Eight emblem on the back but never saw the front well enough to identify the year.

These shows are both exciting and unexplainable. Every episode is filled with 4 doors and oddball cars, not to mention the fascination with Volkswagen. Old and rare doesn’t equal value automatically.

Interesting.. I saw an old 1st Gen Mustang found in a barn in Western MA-it had sat there for 12+ years-unfortunately, mice had eaten all the wiring insulation-it needed a new wiring harness.
