Less than half the counties play Hurling which might sound bad but it makes for a great denominator when you want to make 9 look better than 14 😜 Around 1% of the Irish popluation played hurling or camogie as it remained rooted to the bottom of the list of most popular sports between the years 2015-2019 inclusive according to the Irish sports monitor annual report 2019. Is the sport any closer to being played according to a set of written rules? Not according to Denis Walsh and the refs he interviewed for his article in last Saturdays Irish Times. But sure look, drive on! We'll spin it somehow 😜😜

Isn't the fact that Cork are going for 20 in a row a sign of the state of hurling.

Hurling has always been the poor relation .. squeezing the whole hurling season into the 2 months is utterly pointless ..

Try involving children in sport outside Ireland and see what it will cost .Children in parishes all over Ireland are in their local pitches being developed ,at no cost for the coaching ,its never been so good.

Most recent appearance in All-Ireland hurling semi finals: 2022 Limerick Galway Kilkenny Clare 2021 Cork Waterford 2019 Tipperary Wexford 2013 Dublin 2000 Offaly 1996 Antrim 1995 Down 1973 London 1949 Laois Right now the All Ireland hurling is a great championship between 6 teams - Kilkenny, Galway, Limerick, Clare, Cork, and Tipperary. Wexford, Dublin, and Waterford are on the margins, and the fact you have to go back to 2000 for the last county not in that list to appear in a semi final, shows that whatever has been done just has not worked. And there's no better reflection of that than looking at what happened to that county - Offaly - when they played Tipp the other day. Of course there might have been work over the past few years especially at underage level that hasn't paid off yet, but it hasn't paid off yet. Now I'm not on the inside to know what the GAA has done in the developing counties, I think the multi-level championship has been a great thing, and it might be that the county boards or clubs aren't doing the right things. Or maybe they are, now, and we'll see benefits soon. But let's not pretend that everything is rosy, it's clearly not, and I'd say Dónal Óg has an especially great point when it comes to coverage. Like, what's the point of having the multilevel championships if the lower tiers get no coverage? Carlow just ran Dublin close which was fantastic and very promising, but why couldn't anyone watch that match? Or anything at all from the McDonagh or lower tiers except the finals? Stream them all! Every match should at least be on GAA Go, even better if the lower tier matches are free to watch. There's little value in a championship that nobody gets to see.

The ball throwing is destroying hurling and while it is a major problem it can be solved. There is nothing as bad as seeing the ball being thrown for the most part up and down the field and the players not being penalised. The problem can be partially solved if a new rule is introduced whereby if a player receives a handpass then he cannot give on during the same play. This would cut down on the handpasses and the referees would be in a position to police the problem better, as there would be less handpassing (or should I say ball throwing) and the ball passing with the hurley would become a more developed skill. While football has developed into a total disaster because of the ball throwing, there is still time to rescue our lovely game of hurling which is not as enjoyable to watch as a few years ago.
