Hi everybody,
Welcome back, it has been a while. This past months I have been very busy. Let me show you this #deck project!
This is in my own #garden.
First I am putting in two big posts. Gravel goes in first and then a nice amount of #concrete C20-25. I made sure the concrete had enough space around the post.
The mix is quite wet because there is direct ground contact.
Then I cleared the space of the furniture and the plants.
The old concrete pavers got stacked on each other to get height and not to move them more than needed. In between the ground can drain the rainfall nicely.
Anti weed fabric got placed on top, the place for the plants got cut away and it gest weight down with gravel and concrete chunks.
The old patio did not move anymore, the ground underneath has settled so the pavers provide sufficient stability for a light deck.
After the ground work was completed the frame could be made.
This is treated spruce, the available lengths determined that they needed to be attached to span the length.
There will be a lot of support so the small stock of 2” by 3” is sufficient.
The boards get spaced of the two posts.
The supports are a lot of legs at enough spots. They get a piece of plastic to stand on. And every 800 mm or 2 feet a support gets placed.
The tops of the boards get some extra protection the shed the water.
The in between members are just screwed and not glued. Again the supports do the weight carrying.
I use nails here and aftwerwards I put in screws so the connection will be firm.
After the frame is nice and stable the deck boards go on top. I put the smooth side up.
This is treated spruce. Right here the color is green but after a little while this turns very pale so the color becomes more natural.
First the boards get spaced every few rows and then the internals get filled in.
This way you can work with two guys after one another.
Extra space around pipes and posts get made, this step is really important because it looks always quite nice. Later the boards get trimmed in the overhang.
This is a lot more accurate and saves cutting time.
Then the top of the decking is nearing completion.
Some detailing on the skirting gets made. The piece are placed so the boards look like they continue to the ground.
I am quite happy with the result and the feeling entering the garden is a lot more friendly.
A risen place to enter and eat and sit is great!
Thanks for watching!
