In this video Michael describes his wife's experiences with her new low vision glasses. She's lost some vision from macular degeneration and glaucoma and was having trouble reading and seeing objects and people from a distance. I prescribed microscopic glasses for reading and bioptic telescopic glasses to help her see much better. After she'd had the glasses for about 3 weeks I spoke with her and she is very happy with the improvement in her vision that the glasses provide.

Currently in Florida... how do you get a low vision specialist to prescribe these microscopic readers... all I have been shown is magnifying glasses... like I am a detective of some sort lol!

I recommend that you call my colleague, Dr. Marc Gannon. He is a low vision optometrist who I have great respect for. Dr. Gannon will evaluate your remaining vision thoroughly and recommend low vision glasses or other devices which will be appropriate for your needs. I wish I could help you. There is much more to it than the eyeglass prescription. In order to prescribe low vision glasses the doctor and patient have to be together for a low vision evaluation. I’m sorry but there is no way I can help you from thousands of miles away.

Thanks for watching my videos. I hope they have been helpful. Low vision glasses are prescribed by a low vision optometrist following a thorough evaluation of the person's remaining vision and considering their needs and goals. That requires a face to face visit to the doctor. My best advice to you is to continue your search for a low vision doctor in your country. There is nothing that I can do to help you from thousands of miles away.
