much of ben's heavy character inconsistencies after the og series(which only really starts during season 3 of alien force) is due to the network's heavy controls and demands of what they want the show to be(more like the original series since at the time ben 10 classic had done better compare to alien force s1 and s2) so while obviously ben's character is going to be sort of shaky in ben 10 classic, it isn't too unexpected from how you would think a 10 year old might act. you mess up from time to time and learn your lesson the easy way or the hard way it's just ben is obviously created to be more immature with gwen being a foil, as she is more often mature and smarter than ben but still get's into spats with ben due to him sometimes instigating it(even outside of ben 10 classic in the Omniverse episode, Ben Again, where 16 year-old Gwen has to deal with an 11 year-old ben). tl;dr Ben in Ben 10 Classic was clearly made to appeal to the younger audience while still showing some character growth which is difficult to do in a semi-episodic show, expecting him to always stick with the lessons he learns in classic unfortunately is unrealistic but at least there was an attempt made before they made a more story heavy successor in Alien Force, it's just unfortunate what happened to him due to The Network.

Yeah I definitely get that - were there any critiques I had, in particular, that didn't seem quite fair with that in mind? Just curious to know because I can always address things in future parts of the series, too, so it's good to know if I missed the mark somewhere.

@@Lowart honestly most were sound and I agree with you on them, like Ben being reset character wise episode to episode. It's one of my biggest complaints, even if the show is banking on the lack of overt continuity for a 2005 audience that might not have watched the show in order. It's just the expectation of an overarching plot that I thought was a bit short sighted. Most animated shows at the time Ben 10 was being made had the same format. Also I personally really liked the Gwen 10 episode lol. Glad you're watching the show!!!

@@freedominart11 I think the expected way of watching the series is important to consider. As you said, they didn't expect most people to watch every episode in order and definitely not back to back. So important character development and "lessons" are probably redundant on purpose to make sure the viewers see at least one instance of those.

Ah I see! That's totally fair. I probably should've been more clear about what I expect from an over-arching plot. Really, something like what they did with Vilgax last season made me pretty happy - just having him minorly involved with some of the episodic plots as a sort of reminder of "This is where we're going." I thought it was a pretty smart way to give that feeling of build-up without sacrificing their freedom to do episodic stories and have kids still understand what's going on even if they miss episodes. Mainly, I was just hoping for something like that, but with a villain I found more engaging than Vilgax. (He's cool, but I found his personality a little bland, personally.) I'm already done part 3, but I'll probably include something about that in part 4 so that my position is a bit clearer!. Thanks for the feedback. It's always super helpful, especially in these multi part series where I can improve my scripts from video to video.

@@Lowart I agree with you on the vilgax thing! Since you finished part 3, I'd like to add that that's why I personally enjoyed season 3 a lot, with Ghost Freak coming back as an end of season villain with the new alien plots of the werewolf and the mummy building towards that end.

That's definitely fair if you enjoy them that way. I just wasn't ready for a break I guess, since I felt like those Kevin episodes were really gearing up to something and then the momentum halted in a way that I personally didn't find engaging for a few of those episodes. I also just didn't find those episodes all that entertaining from an episodic point of view, but hey, to each their own.

Quite a few people seem to be thinking that, which is getting me pretty curious about Alien Force. (Never really saw any of it as a kid, at least not as far as I remember.)

@@Lowart alien force its better in developing characters, but the plot while can look to be better at first view, if we take a second look its pretty much like the classic series descent to bad, because it sadly has retcons.
