I've been eating keto for 2 months and my weight loss is slow but steady. More importantly, I saw my endocrinologist yesterday and she said I am no longer diabetic. I have been off any meds for over 2 months and my average blood sugar has been 79. She told me I could stop testing and just continue what I am doing. This is a long time coming as I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2000.

I just want to clarify -My content is not changing as all my recipes are low carb and keto friendly. As much as I've loved doing keto for the last 5 years, I’ve slowly transitioned back to low carb. If I start to gain weight, I will 💯 go back to strict keto as it has always worked for me👏. Most of my food is still “keto” I’ve just added small amounts of fruit, potatoes and rice here and there (which is considered “low carb” vs keto. I just wanted to share this with you because some of you might relate. If you have any questions, comments, feel free to add them here! Love you guys ❤

This happened to me too, after 8 yrs on keto I recently started Carnivore, this made me realise how lacking I was in protein, hence the sarcopenia … sagging skin that belongs to a very old person . But I think I might also just start high protein low carb. I was doing OMAD, it was really hard to fit in enough protein to support skin health . Now I’m doing carnivore and having to eat four meals a day just so I can eat enough for the nutrients needed. It’s hard ! @thedeels7522 I think its more about our discipline to not eat high carbs and how hard we work to make that happen. Then when we have our cheat days or eat something we normally wouldn't, naturally there is guilt because we have broken that discipline. I have felt the same, it's nothing bad, just a pressure we put on ourselves just like any other human does. A big reason why keto is so successful. Discipline.

@@mellybear IF = Intermittent Fasting . Most people will fast for 18:6, which 18 hours no food and a 6 hour eating window of usually TMAD (2 meals a day). Some will do an IF of 20:4 or 22:4 with an OMAD (one meal a day).
@yanirisencarnacion0411 ай бұрын
@@mellybear It's short for Interment Fasting it's a lifestyle where you restrict yourself from eating a certain amount of time for example your last meal would be at 8pm until your first meal at 12pm the next day so that's what's called a 16/8 IF window. you don't eat for 16 hours (including the time you're sleeping ) and have 8 hours to eat all your meals preferably three meals in those 8 hours but a lot of people choose two instead. You can choose to change the time that best works for your lifestyle as not everyone can do 8pm-12pm. The trick is you have to always break your fast with a healthy meal high in protein, healthy fat, and fiber. you can not break your fast with bread or junk food otherwise you won't see the results you would want. IF really does work I absolutely love it, It has helped me lose a lot of weight and it helps so much with bloating and gut wealth. you should do some research on it. I follow Autumn Bates here on youtube she's great at explaining exactly how it works. Mayra also has videos here talking about it. Hopes this explain a little bit. Good night

Hopefully Reggie shares his experience, but typically metabolic flexibility needs to trained* with one or both of extended ketosis and fasting - ideally 24+ hour and multi-day @@LowCarbLove. “Trained” may give the wrong impression, because you’re building new pathways that have been long dormant or are effectively gone - by destroying old cells/mitochondria (autophagy) and replacing them with new, better functioning cells… throughout your entire body. Unfortunately, autophagy typically only happens during ketosis/fasts (except cases of trauma/toxicity). That very long process of rebuilding your body, 1 cell at a time, is why most people have low ketones even when they have low blood sugar… even 16 or 20 hours into a fast, and after months/years of keto too. Short-term keto does help lose weight either way, but long-term achieving “full” metabolic flexibility (i.e. ketones immediately & highly available after glucose spikes, spikes clear out quickly without lag, ketone pathways efficient enough to fuel demanding sport and mental activity, etc) is a cumulative transformation. Early on, autophagy may not start until 20 hours into a fast (or continuous ketosis with < 5g glucose, for many perhaps < 1g) or could even take 2-3 days. As you gain flexibility though, autophagy will start sooner… and eventually you can make significant transformation progress even during IF single-day fasts. So achieving “full” metabolic flexibility depends on how often/long you put yourself into autophagy…. which might take only a few months for someone dedicated, or many years (or never) if someone never fasts long and also never goes for long in super strict ketosis. Personally, I’ve been varying levels of low carb/keto/paleo for 11 years (with some off periods)… My metabolic flexibility however didn’t improve much at all-until I started fairly aggressive IF 1 year ago (a mix of 20:4 TMAD and 23:1 OMAD), and then especially 8 months ago when I went carnivore (sometimes full, sometimes with fruit/ferments) and added in a 36+ hour multi-day fast every 1-2 months. Now I regularly play running sports (e.g. tennis, basketball) for 2+ hours a time, 4x a week or more, while fasted… or do heavy mental work on ketones. I’ve measured my blood ketones and glucose on meters. While it’s pretty good (high & responsive) I’d say I still have a ways to go still…. I don’t know of any good way to measure this, but in my mind I feel like I’m 30-50% of the way to fully metabolically flexible? I’m very happy at least with where I’m currently at-how available energy feels, how long I can last in sport, how quickly I seem to recover from occasional bad carbs, how sharp my mind feels, how rarely food comas/brain fog ever arise, etc-and looking forward to where I’ll be in another year! That’s my experience anyway! Hope that helps and/or is of interest at all 😄

I have lost & maintained >100# since 2009 using low carb, ketovore, heavier protein as well as exercise. I’ve managed to come off of cardiac meds for arrhythmias & mitral valve prolapse which are no longer detectable as well as thyroid medications with now normalized levels. I too enjoy all types of food and don’t restrict myself from things if I really want it nor do I sacrifice my presence at social gatherings due to food restrictions. I don’t make it a big blow out, I enjoy myself and carryon as usual. My body has been thriving. Thank you so much for sharing & for sharing your world. Reneé in TX

Hi! I’ve lost 84lbs since Nov 16, 2022. I still have 50 lbs to go with 9 months to do it to meet my goal 😊 I’ve done IF and lower carb lifestyle. I don’t think I’ve ever done true Keto, but for sure love not over indulging in carbs, especially the bad ones. I cut out all fast food and added sugars, no more processed foods, etc. I LOVE my new life and never want to go back to my old lifestyle. 🙏🏽💪🏽 Gracias, Mayra! ❤

We did keto for four years. I only had 15 pounds to lose but was doing it with my husband for support. We now do low carb and carb cycle and it’s amazing how well it works. My hubby is as low as he’s ever been. Check into carb cycling. You look amazing! I’m excited for more low carb/low calorie recipes.

I transitioned from keto to low carb by very slowly raising my carb count, when I got to the point to where I saw some weight gain, I cut back a little on my carbs until I finally found my sweet spot. For about 6 months now I’ve just been happily living my life and I definitely do not feel like I’m on a diet. I think low carb is very doable. The thing most ppl need to do is just get all the junk food out of their lives, eat a good clean diet, and get some sort of exercise in every day, something you enjoy. Life is short, it should be enjoyed to the fullest! Good luck to everyone on your fitness journey ❤

This video could not have come at a better time!!! I've been struggling so much 😩 I started keto probably around 5 years ago too...I lost 60 pounds the first time, gained it back for a while, got sick of being heavy again, did keto plush intermittent fasting, lost the 60 again, started menopause and my Dad got sick with cancer and passed away in January...I put about 40 pounds back on and now I can't lose anything 😭I also got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I'm so frustrated and tired of constantly living with this restricted mindset for so long and not see anything happening now. I want to be healthy and enjoy myself but also want to feel good about myself too. It's tough being in my 50s. I know my body is changing and what used to work just doesn't anymore with my metabolism. I'm at a loss. I won't give up and I think I'm going to maybe be low carb for a while by eating healthy foods but not worrying about trying to stay under 20 carbs a day. Sorry for the pity party...it's just been a tough year in so many aspects. ❤

Your telling my story! Yo-yo weight gain and loss over and over again. It has been embarrassing for me, I would do Atkins then Keto only to stop n put it all back n then some, I told myself no more! Start moving and try again, stress had been my enemy but from here on out I will not let it have power over me. Please keep going and stay strong for YOU

so sorry to hear about your loss. if you ask me, weight loss in your 50s shouldn't have to be a thing, just go to the gym and get toned and build muscle and then you will look fantastic in anything. eat whatever you want in the meantime. I think even with a bit of extra weight, when you're confident and toned it looks amazing

I'm sorry for your loss. Things will get better...I was experiencing perimenopause symptoms a couple years ago. It took me 2 years to close the weight I gained. I'm 53 now and almost to my goal weight. Something to remember there is not a one size fits all. I started fasting and changing my choices in food and slowly lost weight. Lifting weights and walking is good for us 50 year old😅 Also, I started watching videos on perimenopause and menopause to help me understand the changes in my body and what I can do. You are not alone.

I ate keto for almost 5 years. I loved the fact that I was never hungry between meals and that, even after menopause, I still had a very discernible waistline. But my cholesterol, which was always a problem, went even higher. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had several surgeries, family and friends visited and brought food. I couldn't refuse their thoughtfulness! I didn't gain any weight when bringing back carbs, but within a month I lost my waistline, and look like a average 62 year old woman with a thick middle. Like you, I am more focused on getting healthy. I still maintain my weight through exercise, but cannot get my keto body back. I am leaning toward low glycemic carbs, meat and cruciferous veggies, nuts, seeds and some dairy. No sugar, of course.

Same here Garden!! I did Keto to support my husband, he is 10 years older than me, I’m 53 and he 63….. suddenly, over night…. His A1C came back as a full blown diabetic, so we went Keto, literally over night…. For me, I only lost about 20lbs and couldn’t lose any more! I felt terrible, tired, bloated and awful…. My husband was doing great! He lost the weight (45lbs) and his A1 came down to almost normal levels!! So it worked for him…. Me…. Not so much… I went for my yearly checkup and my cholesterol levels were thru the roof!!! I mean DANGEROUSLY high… my A1C was also high!!! Keep in mind, my husband and I NEVER have any sugar what so ever…. Only blueberries a few times a week… so what gives?? So my dr sent me to my gastric Dr to see if something may be amiss (I have intestinal issues prior to keto) and he told me that he has seen this before, mostly in women but sometimes men too…. Keto tanks their blood work, raises fat in the body….and also messes with insulin levels, thus raising the A1C …that was for sure ME!! So he put me on “The Starch Solution” diet by Dr McDougall …. And whala…. Without even trying I lost 23lbs and my blood work AND A1C is back down to normal again… Keto isn’t a “one size fits all” diet. There are others out there like me, that practiced Keto perfectly, to a Tee…. And it did not work for them… I can’t tell you how many times I have had people say to me “you weren’t doing it right then, because it worked great for me”…. But every person, every Body in motion, is different. Many women of my age group (53) can not do keto because of cholesterol or insulin issues…. You just have to find what diet works for your body type. 💯💕👍🏼

I just started my low carb journey. I thought about doing Keto, but I realized that I just would not be able to maintain that level of restrictiveness. I've done very well on a low carb diet. I've lost 45 pounds and lowered my A1C. I still enjoy some Keto recipes because they allow me to enjoy a moderate amount of carbs in other meals, but I wouldn't be able to stick with it day after day. Everyone must do what works best for them and their health. Happy to hear you'll still be posting low carb and even Keto friendly recipes! Thank you for all the great recipes and ideas!

Yo también llevo 5 años en Keto y nunca lo he dejado, no es necesario cambiar a low carb u otro estilo de alimentación. Keto no hace daño a largo plazo.

I don't do keto or carnivore, but I did start counting calories and adjusting my eating habits to try and adhere to about ~2000 calories a day. I started this in early January when I was ~330 pounds. I am now 228 and feeling great. I am off numerous medications (blood pressure, cholesterol) and I am out of pre-diabetic range. To anyone trying to lose weight, find what works for you, dedicate yourself and remember to approach it as a lifestyle and not a diet. You can do it!

Usually, I think the reason this happens to many people is that they still keep the fats in a relatively high range now IN ADDITION to the carbs. It's tough to transition when you're accustomed to eating such a high percentage of fat

I think the intermittent fasting time is also very important. Fasting Foodie lost weight & maintains that weight loss with just an Intermittent Fasting Lifestyle with an eating window of usually 22:2 6 days a week of an OMAD, a down day of 500 calories with the OMAD & then 1 up day with eating 2 or 3 meals within usually a 6-hour window. She clean fasts, which is very important. No diet soda during the fasting time. She will drink water, plain coffee or sparkling water with plain LMNT in it during her fasting time. She eats a good variety of food.

I was keto about 9 months and it served its purpose for me. I did lose weight and fast, but being keto showed me how strong I was. That I was able to resist the bad foods that got me to my highest weight of 340. I just got to a point where I knew how to eat healthy, I work out regularly and my entire life is just different now. I am 240 now and still losing weight. When I was out with family and friends it was helllaaaa stressful not being able to enjoy being out because I couldn’t eat with them. I would literally be at the table like, “does the salad dressing have sugar? Just oil and vinegar please…”. I was out, my friends ordered a charcuterie board and I was like guys….I’m going to eat this cracker?? They were like girl, if you don’t eat that damn cracker. Lol. It felt crazy after so long to eat a real carb. But it felt great. I learned that I could balance and I was no longer the person I was. I am still primarily low carb. If I want a flippin baked potato though I’m going to eat it.

Honestly you did keto for the wrong reasons if your reasoning was to "see how strong you are"... no the purpose of keto is to be healthy internally and rid yourself of insulin resistance/diabetes. You're just making yourself a yoyo dieter which you will be worse off now then you were before. Please look up dr Bergs videos on going on and off diets. Your metabolism has now stabilized and that is REALLY bad for your long term health.

Sorry to hear you gain the weight back. You will do it again! You got this!!! 😊 I made this a lifestyle. Made it a off Keto meaning, not eating all that beef,(mainly chicken, fish and beef on occasion) but no sugar at all, no grains, etc... Until I got too thin. I felt I need berries for brain health too and now eat raspberries, blue and blackberries all organic. Try to eat very little sugar, low carbs. I missed eating grilled cheese, sometimes. So, I found a great bread(no sugar) and some great low carb bread too. Found this works for me and when I want a piece of a cake....... I get. Found a lower in sugar/carb. one(tried to make a cake- 😟😝😅) Lets say best to leave it to the professionals. 😀 Sometimes I have the munchies,(should eat) it can be hard and I'm tried of eating nuts, cheese, dark chocolate, etc.. and all you want is chips. Until recently, I found no sugar, very low carb Chicken Breast Chips.. They are Awesome! Expensive! But sooo tasty and delicious. 😋 Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for sharing your story Julianne! Openminded is the way to go, but I also love to tell others that you should lead with a health mentality and not a weight loss mentality.
