The shallower dive is a good tip. The one time I dove down to 60 feet I ran out of air and had to share air with my buddy to the surface. All other dives have been to 25-30 feet and my air consumption is much better there.

It's all physics! Every 10m underwater there is an additional atmosphere of pressure. Meaning the volume of air halves, then is a quarter etc. So while you're taking the same "breath" you're actually using a larger amount of the air in your tank because the particles are closer together

Hello! Would you ever be interested in more technical diving like cave diving?

I definitely would love it but it is quite expensive and a bit out of my budget :)

Great up Kat. Women are so lucky...they seem to hardly breathe when underwater. In my diving circle, they routinely have over half a tank left when us poor men are down to 30-40 BAR. But even within men, air consumption varies tremendously. When I'm at 40 BAR, one of my diving buddies routinely has 70-80. My number one trick to long dives is to MOVE SLOWLY...barely finning at all if conditions allow it. The less muscle exertion the less metabolism in the body the less oxygen (breathing) you do.

That's a good point. Slow steady movements is key to minimising air consumption. We are definitely lucky as women since we tend to breathe a lot less?

One thing I’ve wondered is how much body size affects air consumption. Is there a significant difference between how fast a 6+foot diver goes through air compared to a 51/2foot diver? Also, a fins video would be interesting, I’ve always used scissor kick fins, maybe it’s time to try the frog fins. 😅❤

My scubapro seawing novas! They're perfect for the frog kick. In terms of body size, lung capacity is more important here. While I'd say that larger people tend to have larger lungs, it's not always the case. It does come down to fitness quite often and how efficient someone's body is at using oxygen and the rate they breathe at

Good tips, but I would add proper weighting & possibly mention physiology (lung size). also, "220 BAR"?? Full tank is 200 BAR.
@LeeLeatherbarrow

Full tank is 250 BAR... Though most likely filled at it's WP of 232 BAR. That said, I'd plan at 210 BAR. And If I got any less than that I'd be taking it back to the shop for a refill.

@@LeeLeatherbarrow well, after working as a pro in Thailand for over 800 dives I can assure you a full tank of air here is 200 BAR

With an aluminium cylinder which are use alot in thailand, yes a full thank is 200 bar. With a steel thank its normal to start at 220/230 bar@@rabbieburns2501
