It's so informative video, thanks! I want to ask sth different. I'm from Turkey and lpg fueled cars are used more extensively in my country when compared to gasoline and diesel. It's just because lpg is cheaper than gasoline. However, everyone knows that lpg has less performance than gasoline especially in atmospheric engines for several reasons. This performance loss also exists in turbo engines but less than atmospheric ones. That's all I know. However, some lpg firms claim that lpg can give 10 hp more than gasoline. They show some dyno tests worked on Opel Astra 1.4 turbo sedan models as a proof. I wonder that is it possible technically or is there any trick to achieve that? Do you have any idea about this issue?
@malulo
@malulo 3 жыл бұрын
Because LPG has more octane than petrol it can be compressed more than petrol without detonation. Therefore if the engine is manufactured specially for LPG it can have a higher compression rate, say 1:12 instead of 1:10 in a petrol engine. An engine with higher compression is more efficient. On the other hand petrol has higher energy density than LPG (more kJ/kg), thus why a car converted from petrol to LPG will give less kilometres per litre than with petrol because is not compressing the mixture to its high potential, but a car built with the higher compression will be able to extract more power from the fuel.
@damlasenacakr1992
@damlasenacakr1992 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks @@malulo for your explanation. I see that engines manufactured for LPG can produce higher power. However, the car that I've already mentioned in my commend is manufactured for petrol and a lpg conversion kit is installed on it. Just think about it: You have two Opel Astra 1.4 turbo sedan cars. You installed a LPG system on one of them. The other one is just normal. Is it possible that the LPG car has more power than normal one somehow?
@malulo
@malulo 3 жыл бұрын
@@damlasenacakr1992 Turbo charged cars can develop more power because they use the exhaust gases to power a turbine (this is where turbo comes from) which in turn drives a compressor that injects more air to the engine and as you have more air, you can have more fuel (be petrol, diesel, gas, etc.), so for the same cubic centimetres of the engine you can have more power, but you are using more fuel.
@Nazmulsaidi
@Nazmulsaidi Жыл бұрын

@Alecks1990

if an engine "knocks" it is nearly done for, modern engines dont have such problems, because they are direct fuel injected in addition an engine has many safety makenisms for prevending a knock, like the ignition timing, fuel to air ratio, lower boost from the turbo or charger, opening the in or outlet valves earlier or later and so on

petrol is a natural lubricant, thats why especially the valve train and here the valve and valves seats will have more wear and tear as in a patrol engine. that is why most engines without hardent valves are not recommended for use of lpg also the combustion of lpg takes more time than from petrol, that is why the valves have to endure a longer periot of extreme heat and therefore have to be well tuned to transfer the heat quickly to the valveseats
@UltralydvaskingLillehammer
@UltralydvaskingLillehammer 4 жыл бұрын
petrol is not a lubricant , the lower wear is caused by the ash that is formed after burning the fuel this gives a dampening factor on the valve hitting the seat

When petrol passes over the oil rings, it washes out the lubricant film from the upper cylinder surface. It causes lack of lubricant which increases wear and tear. So the life of petrol engine is less compare to LPG engine.

@@EngineersAcademy9204 How bad it is when somebody has a well confused concept in mind but still so confident to pretend teach that to everybody else??!! I am not a mechanic and definitely not a master, but who ever owns or drive a Petrol car LPG converted and just a tiny bit of knowledge could tell how much will cost the car in extra maintenance in a long run! It's seams not your case! Like Bogdan Forsea comment correctly LPG is an extremely dry fuel, so less lubrication! A poorly lubricated metal to metal moving parts creates higher friction. Higher frictions, where I from, generates more heat. Petrol engines are designed to operates best within a certain temperature, the LPG will rise the temperatures well above that point, resulting to an extra stress and faster deterioration of the cooling system, piston rings, spark plugs, exhaust valves, head gasket etc etc... all the concerning parts! Even the engine oil, can be noticed in LPG cars the engine oil keeps its clear color much longer because the gas leave almost no deposits back, in reality the oil yes results cleaner but not to be considered as in good condition, despite how it's look most probably that oil has lost all it's properties thanks to the abnormal high temperatures he must work with. If to cover the distance from point A to B I need 10% more fuel burnt compare LPG to Petrol... that does not mean the engine it performs better! I went out with my friend last Friday we drunk a bottle of premium whisky and we come back home 04:00AM. I spent 50$. Saturday we went out again we drunk a bottle of NO NAME whisky my friend paid 10$ and we went back home 04:00AM. Why Sunday morning I woke up with a very bad headache but Saturday morning I felt good??? Because I am designed for Premium whisky... LPG fuel it does shorten the lifespan of the petrol engines, however in most of the cases you may be able to save some money...especially if you convert a new vehicle and you sell it before 100k km, I won't buy that one!!! Cheers
@arnemaeschaelck5012
@arnemaeschaelck5012 5 жыл бұрын
@@alexgreg1634 It's actually more complicated than that. Yes, LPG will not lubricate the engine whatsoever, however, what this guy is talking about (even though a lot of the information he provided is very wrong), is that the film of oil on the cylinder walls will not be washed off when running on LPG, which is true! Petrol will just take it off, and if you leave your car idling for longer, the petrol will mix a little with the oil, causing oil dillution. Oil stays much cleaner when running on LPG. LPG burns slightly hotter, but that's not that big of a deal. Because it's so dry, it may cause damage to valves and valve seats, however, flash lube can help prevent this, and a good LPG-compatible engine won't really mind (a lot of engines are not really strong enough for LPG these days). This won't reduce the engine's life, though. So in reality, a lot of LPG engines will eventually run longer because: LPG burns much cleaner and more completely, the oil stays cleaner, meaning better lubrication and since it's not injected as a liquid, it won't mix / wash off other lubricating liquids. If you look for used LPG cars, they're all gonna have extremely high mileage, that must mean something. Valves are the only weak spot, but good maintenance, pre-cautions, but more importantly; a suitable engine, can prevent all of this and make an LPG car run for longer than a petrol one. Oh, and tuning. Your LPG systems needs to be tuned to perfection. And it'll run forever.

Depends on the engine. Some engines are just to weak for LPG. Make your homework visiting LPG forums and you found out what engines you can convert. You have to investigate before you invest! The other thing is the proper fine tuning at LPG done by a good expert. You have to make sure there is no poor mixture in any given time and your engine gonna have a looong life.

Any petrol engine can be converted to LPG, no matter what there is a turbo engine or a naturally aspirated engine. The LPG injectors are connected to the engine by small holes in the engine's admission and you can control from a button inside the car, which fuel you wanna use. Please note that it's very important that the engine starts only with petrol fuel (it will automatically pass to LPG when it reaches a good functioning temperature). Avoid to hit hard the acceleration for long time while running on LPG (short kicks down are ok). And from time to time (I do this once per week), use petrol fuel for a few miles.

@@terazor4452 Hi Veteran! There is no issue in converting a V8 engine on LPG. The cost of the LPG kit will be higher in your case, as you will need large lpg pipes to ensure a proper quantity of LPG, 8 LPG injectors and high power evaporator. Also note that best LPG injectors are Barracuda (made in Poland), Hanna (not sure, I believe made in Japan) and Keihin (100% japanese). I saw a lot of V6 and V8 cars with LPG (Porche, BMW, Honda, Ford), and they running just fine. You must assume also a big LPG tank for a V8, as they are thirsty engines. I wouldn't reccomend a tank smaller than 100 liters. That being said, I would evaluate the cost of an LPG kit for a V8 engine at approximately 1500$ with high quality components. If you use often high rpms in revs, I reccomend also a valve lubrication kit, but be aware to have the one which lubricates all valves (admission and exhaust), because most of the lubrication kits in the market are useless because they lubricate only admission valves, so exhaust valves will get fried in time and you will need to change all of them (admission + exthaust). I'm not sure how much is the cost for a lubrication kit, I don't use one since I try to push in high rpms only on petrol fuel. The fuel economy you will get will be around 40%. An LPG inspection costs around 20-30$, once per year or at 10k miles. From here you do the mathematics and try to figure if it's worths for you. Usually you get 100k miles or 5 years warranty for quality LPG kits (excluding regular services /inspections). Regards!

@@terazor4452 if you don't push it in high rpms while running on LPG, expect over 100k miles or 150k kilometers without problems. I've had 5 cars on LPG, first was failing after 60k km, but I was very young and aggressive style of driving, second was failing after 80k km from the same reason, third car is still running ok on LPG, I sold it to one cousin and he has over 120k km with no problems, 4the car is still in my possession with 90k km on LPG without problems, 5th car still in my possession with 70k km on LPG without problems. Overall I would say that if you don't push it hard too often on LPG, you might get easily 150k km without any issue. On my first car on LPG I rebuilt the engine after it crashed for my constant aggressive driving, and it cost me around 1000$...so nothing too expensive.

LPG or CNG which is Better??? 1. LPG is been in India for 20long years, CNG on other hand is recently started coming less than 10yrs. 2. LPG is available any place even in remote areas, CNG is slowly started to rise up. 3. LPG is Litre based so a Technical Closer to normal Petrol, but CNG is Kg based and needs to fill up constantly (i.e) in 60litre Lpg nearly 550 to 600kms on a normal 15kmpl petrol car , as it carry 48litre, as on CNG 250km maximum can travel as the maximum kg that can carry is 10kgs 4. Torriodal Tank and Capsule Tank Available in LPG, but in CNG only Capsule Tank, so very limited Boot Space in Hatchback cars. 5. Installation cost is 35000 to 40000Rs LPG, but CNG 55000 to 60000Rs. 6. LPG cost 47rs per litre CNG cost 55 to 60rs and in Metro same as LPG. But in normal Town CNG is 12rs higher. 7. Weight of Tank is High in CNG (70kgs) as CNG tank is 1 Inch thick wall as it is Compressed Gas, but LPG is liquid , so the tank weight is less and after a Full Tank an 80kgs nearly will be there in Boot so SUSPENSION and Shock Absorber problem can occur, LPG is a bit lighter weight (1 Factor common to be checked is WEIGHT of CNG and LPG are same, so SUSPENSION Problem can occur and Tyre worn out soon in both.

In this video you can find some truth and some lies. First of all, when running a car on GPL you won't have the same performance as on petrol. I estimate a 10% power loss. I own 3 different cars with 3 different LPG kits on them. None of the cars can match it's own petrol performance when running on LPG. Example 1: 2.0 Turbo petrol engine runs 60 mph in 9.2 seconds. On LPG runs in 10.5 seconds. On petrol each gear is going at 6500 rpm without any problem, but on LPG is blocks at 5700 rpm where the engine starts detonating and loose power. Example 2: 1.4 naturally aspirated engine runs smoother on petrol compared to LPG. On LPG when I step on it hard at low rpms it shakes and detonates often until it reaches around 2500 rpm. Climbing a high hill at the mountain side is faster on petrol compared to LPG. If I have 4 passengers in the car and the AC turned on, the car is barely moving on LPG at low speeds. There's something more I want to tell. Running on LPG will destroy your engine valves if you always use high rpms (rolling fast in inferior gears). It's mandatory that the engine runs on petrol from time to time and mandatory that the start up of the engine is done with petrol. Regards!

Why is it mandatory to run the car on petrol from time to time and why is it mandatory to start a car on petrol then switch to lpg? Why? I cant find answer for this anywhere ,explain it dont just expect that we trust you blindly.

@@pexydexi LPG has a dry burning and also the temperature generated by the LPG explosion is higher than regular petrol, mainly in high rpms. The engine admission and exhaust valves cannot support this high temperature for long time and the dry burning of LPG might affect them. I know there is not any proof that the LPG damages the engine, but I had other different cars running on LPG and quite all of them failed between 120-150k kilometers. My explanation is that I was younger and much more aggressive as a driver, keeping the cars mostly in high rpms and the LPG damaged my engine.

Diesel engine has a lower knock than petrol? Seriously, diesel relies on detonation for its operation. Please check your basics.
