Something else that could be done to help keep the display stabilized would be to take the feet, and fill the PVC with fine grain sand. Glue the caps on with blue plumbers glue and you're all set.

Thanks for the tips. When you said black out material, I'm thinking I'll go to my local fabric store and get white vinyl that I used to make black out curtains. If you can't breath through it, it will work great! I also already have metal poles in tires of concrete for a volleyball net so I'm thinking those will work to support the screen. Thanks for the inspiration!

This is exactly what I was looking for to make a privacy screen from my nosey neighbours who want to chit chat endlessly over the fence. The material can be cheap broadcloth and will be fine loose fitting. I have yet to check prices but I'm sure it's going to be cheaper than the $150.00 for a flimsy manufactured one.

Awesome! Got the roll up 100" silver screen planned out. Now I need a budget friendly but nice portable mini projector. I rly like the LG PF50KA But not sure if battery capable.So then found the Optoma LV130. I'd like your input on an in-between in white fully mobile on battery, WiFi, BT w/ some inputs, outs for speakers (HDMI audio passthrough). under $300 if so. 500-600 nits or upto 2k lumens. I can do w/ 70-80" ok. open to 780 res but 1080 preferred.

This is pretty cool. Is there a way to mount speakers on the top of each corner of the screen? I'd love to do that in order to give it more of a left and right sound or surround sound effect.

While i am sure the cost & weightwould increase, but what about taking these exact measurements and doing this with metal tubing like conduit? or galvanized pipe? Would the weight help or hinder the stability? Would it eliminate the flex that PVC has? Also,what about making the pipe legs Nest inside the side polls? that way you can easily adjust for uneven terrain with a dowel or a bolt?something along the lines of a basic tripod leg or Ez up? Thanks for the video!
@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 7 жыл бұрын
Great suggestions! Two reasons I went with PVC over metal conduit are that it's way easier to work with (cutting in particular), especially for the DIYers at large, and also because it's flexible, which is somewhat necessary when pulling the sides/tops apart for disassembly. The weight of pipe would have made it more sturdy, which would be nice. The nested leg idea is a great one and could work really well. I wanted to keep this as simple as I could while still being fully functional, but I might have to try your idea of the telescoping legs - that'd be a great feature. Thank you for watching!

@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 3 жыл бұрын
I never ended up creating the video (I lost the footage) but the gist of it is you take a sheet of wood, MDF or whatever you want, ideally 3/4" thick, and put a 1/4 20 threaded insert in it with some glue then put the tripod foot onto that and mount it onto the tripod. It makes a good adjustable stand for your projector.

This projector gets the job done pretty well. kzfaq.infoUgkxS9P8zTOcmQg-hH0QeUi3dspOLyYgQ6dH Bear in mind it's a mini projector but all things considered the picture quality is pretty good. The attached photo is of the projector projecting onto my white closet doors. I still have not messed with the settings but I can't wait for our first family movie night on a larger scale. If you have issues with volume not working with your firestick, go into volume settings and you will find your solution there.

@LRN2DIY
@LRN2DIY 6 жыл бұрын
I actually never completed that video, but it's just a thicker board (3/4" or more) with a receiving thread in the middle that is threaded and glued into it. That receiving thread is what the foot of the tripod screws into and that's basically all there is to it. It's kind of hard to explain but if you want more details let me know and I'll send pics.

I just updated the link to make sure it's pointing to the Black Out Cloth, as opposed to the Flexi-Gray, for example, and it's $39.99 USD (bit.ly/3jD33yE). Another option is to buy one of the super cheap screens on Amazon that cost less than $20 and use the paracord to tie it to the frame you build. I've thought about trying this myself. Here's an example of the screen: geni.us/U8nD9jB. Lastly, I updated the link to the Amazon cloth to be a 4 yard piece of blackout cloth that would work for doing the method shown in this video and it costs $19. Looks like the prices and links had changed somewhat so hopefully these updates help.

The lumens are so low. Everything I read says for outdoor use should be over 3000?
@jimthesoundman8641
@jimthesoundman8641 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on how much ambient light is there and how far the throw distance (from lens to screen) is, but 3000 is a safe starting point. You can get by with a lot less if you are in a dark space.
