A lot of people in the comments here seem a bit confused. While this was said to be 1 of the final 2 streams, it meant to recap the year as now it has come to a close. While I am a bit in limbo atm (I stream on alt channel only recently and am extremely disappointed and frustratsd at the way the scene is), nothing definite has been determined. Both a calm and a sense of aloneness are present within me currently, and I'm not sure really to do. Ultimately everything is useless, because it's just repeating an endless cycle and everything feels futile when no one cares to entertain inaccuracy. While I mentioned I would continue to do bts stuff and other things (patchs, patreon, appear elsewhere etc) I'm not sure what else atm. This year was an eye-opener in that I attempted to do many things people asked or requested and I feel as a person I made massive ground in many ways, but in a bizarre twist of fate I feel more lost and confused on how things go. There's no worse feeling than being punished for trying to improve and improving, when you made the effort to improve for others.

I’ll assume since your goals are more pro-play oriented, this might not feel as fulfulling to you, but you really have changed many of us regular players perspectives and have provided a lot of entertainment over the years that brightened up our day. Whatever you decide to do, we will support you.

"LS aka League's Sisyphus" is tragically accurate. However your work is really important as its influencing how a lot of ppl at different levels of involvement in the League scene think about the game. Also the Gryffinn story arc is a major W. Being confronted with so much ugliness, taking time off or entirely quitting would be understandable, but be assured that there are a lot of people that value every piece of ur work. Whatever you do, i hope that you can find, share, enjoy and contribute to beauty; esports can be just that but there are plenty of other ways.

Hearing LS saying that he feels like his whole work was fruitless is so disheartening to me. If anything, at least he told me how we should think critically and question authority because sometimes the system really is broken. And that goes waaay beyond the game. Thank you LS. Also I really resonated with the part where you talk about feeling or not feeling empathy for others. I felt like you were describing me. I watched your videos not because I care much about the technical side of league but because you are a very inspiring person to me. Really smart, really well spoken, really hard working and willing to make a difference. Never thought I would find this kind of personal admiration from someone in the league of legends world. Like me, I believe there are many others who have been impacted and isnpired by who you are as a person, despite the context. I hope you're fulfilled in whatever path you decide to go

Hey LS, I’ve watched you on and off for the past 3-4 years. Although you were introduced to me via synapse rage clips, when I was eventually suggested you content by a friend I enjoyed a lot of what I saw. I really respect your passion for improvement and optimization, and your determination to stand your ground on your beliefs and argue logically whether you are right or wrong. It’s so rare to see people debate over actual ideas rather than just throw personal insults at each other on the internet. Apathy is a difficult thing to deal with, and a sense of futility is one of the hardest things to get rid of. It’s easy to look at the big picture and feel that you are irrelevant, only an individual swimming against the current. As everyone has different ways of finding motivation and purpose, it would be patronizing and ignorant for me to tell you what to do. Thank you for the fun and enlightening times, and I hope you find what fulfills you, whether it be something new or old.

The way you combine game theory with knowledge of poker, MtG and SC2 to explain to someone who doesn't really play MOBAs was very refreshing to see. I hope you find what drives you to create soon. It's a blast to watch you create content, be it talk shows with Tarzaned or drafting with Pvvdr.

Hey LS, it's a long time viewer. Maybe not the longest, I cant say i was around in your StarCraft days, but ive been watching your content since that very old summoning insight video back on 2014 (with the wildturtle is gohan analogy lmao) and i thought your philosophy on the game has always been rather beautiful. I think a lot of what you've talked about over the years can and will make an impact if the game lasts long enough. New talent will always need to find an edge, and once they do that will become the new normal until another edge is found, slowly creeping up the level of play. Unfortunately though as someone who watches sports it can sometimes take years for innovation to break through. I think that quote you posted on Twitter is sadly real, that conversion is nearly impossible but convincing people fresh to the game is possible.

Only caught some of this stream and know that a follow up video about the future is coming, but LS I think I speak for many people when I say we’d watch you do content other than league/esports. You used to say you wouldn’t because the viewership+money wouldn’t follow / you didn’t have the passion or expertise for it, but since you’re retiring from league why not give it a shot anyways right? There’s also definitely creators in other spaces ready to welcome you with open arms. Iirc PChal once invited you to participate in pokemon showdown tournaments before for example. And seeing LS’ take on the riot MMO or DOTA would be sick too. Regardless, all the best for the future and whatever path you choose. We all loved watching you and the way you thought about the game.

I truly thank you for providing me with entertainment and knowledge surrounding this game and scene for a long time. I’ve learnt a lot from you and have enjoyed every piece of content you have put out. My experience with League will definitely not be the same without having your content to turn to and indulge in whether it be for entertainment or for my development as a player. Your co-streams will forever be my favourite. I understand things have never been easy for you, and it definitely isn’t easy to make a decision like this. But i wish you the best with all future endeavours in all walks of life. And I hope that at some point you can return having improved, but of course that is just what I would want and not what might be good for you. Also thank you for leaving us with Gryffin, I hope he is able to make his mark in this scene and to be a part of your legacy too. I’ll make sure to type Last Shadow every time i wanna buy liandrys. The 41 minute mark where you both talk about work ethic and that your arguably both grinders. I totally know what LS is speaking about, I was working 60-70 hour work weeks in esports and I know for a fact that most people where clocking in half the time I was but still claimed over time when it would have been amazing to see what work they did if it wasn’t during a production. Most people working in esports don’t even play games was the single most socking but made so much sense as to why the scene is in shambles, not just in league but in general.

I reached 3:04:30, and I didn't expect this topic to come up, but it made me leave and now reflect with an arm stretched out to ask myself the question. Do I want to go back to esports... ever? Not really, unless it's on my own terms. There are a lot of people in power that shouldn't be, there are more who are genuinely stealing pay checks, and there are even more people who get over worked and underpaid and promised they will get a payrise or promotion soon but never do. I can't say enough how much hearing this chat has helped reframe a lot of trauma I had this year in a much healthier way, that how I was treated was fucked and that, sadly others experience thee same in the industry.

Hey LS, I've been watching you since 2015 I think and am pretty bummed how this chapter ends. You are one of Leagues sons that didn't get to enjoy the sun as much as they should have and I've seen literally all the dark times you've shown at least to the public, and also dearly enjoyed the good times you were able to have from time to time. You certainly did not fail in my eyes, you've helped me view the world with more critical eyes when I was a lost anxious teen in a random basement playing league on 100 ping while being in a host family across the world, you've also helped me be empathic when you continue to advocate for the things and also importantly people you believe in, even when seemingly everyone hates what you have to say. I've seen you and mex doing a mtg card trade with a pervy korean dude and your mouse stories, you and neme and the rants about renekton, you promising a glimpse of hope of a shift in meta through c9 and all the european newcomer pros that you tried to guide towards niche picks, your times helping fudge and all the others see the light of the church you've created. I could literally go on and on, I can't bear to see you leave League and it takes away yet another motivation for me to play it. I know tho that leaving it might relieve you of all the hate, the stress and the darkness it caused at times. You will still be the major motivation for me to finally see seoul this year, I can't wait to see all the good and bad you've told me about it. Please to the best of your ability enjoy life, enjoy great korean food, hang out with the people that stuck with you along the way and perhaps even one day rekindle the broken friendship with neme, I'd hope that one works out in the end for both of you. Whatever you will move to next, if it will be streamed or on youtube, I will likely be there watching. I hope you see this and all the other comments as proof that you didn't fail in your missions, even if you might be convinced that you did ❤

I remember one of my professors in college said something along the lines of "history is spiral not a circle." Things will repeat but each iteration will be slightly different and generally heading upwards. I think although you failed by your own metrics, you have succeeded in the eyes of many. You have succeeded not because of your following or your financial status, but rather that you did bring a new perspective of analytical and critical thinking to a wider audience. At the minimum, you accelerated the upwards path of the spiral. You may not have been able to pull League out of that path but you have made tangible and noticeable contributions to changing its trajectory. It might not matter to you, but in my eyes that is success.

At roughly 27:00 when LS describes Monty Hall problem (3 doors: 2 goats/1 car) if you do not get why changing your door is the right choice, imagine 100 doors instead and game show host opens 98 doors instead of 1. Your chance for success now shoots through the roof if you change door choice because the host is demonstrating what doors can hold the prize. If the host randomly chose doors to open and one of them happened to have the prize in it then the scenario breaks down. Due to the requirement that the prize door cannot be opened by the host it increases your chance of success by switching door choice.

Keynotes: 1:35 Where do you find it within yourself to dream again? (Motivation) • LS discusses losing passion at the end of his StarCraft career and how he regained it when transitioning to League of Legends. 11:00 Why makes game enter stagnation (and what even is that)? • LS defines a "stagnation period" in games where the meta doesn't change much. He believes League has been stagnant for about 5 years. 21:27 My Philosophy in the Way I See League of Legends • LS summarizes his coaching philosophy from Yosh about always striving for solutions that are even a tiny bit better, not about being right or wrong. 33:48 One of My Biggest Frustrations with League Esports (Refusing to Change) • LS is frustrated by the lack of discernment in esports - people won't change things even when you demonstrate obvious improvements. 39:27 Non-experts Hiring Experts • LS is disturbed that team management seems unconcerned when he is able to easily undermine their decision-making with simple questioning. 42:30 Discernibility in League Esports • LS says most people overestimate their ability to discern good ideas/analysis in League. He wishes this was tested more. 50:09 Engaging with My Arguments, Not Me • LS feels he is often defending stances people assign to him inaccurately. He makes decisions based on logic, not emotion. 55:39 30 Years of Harassment (Growing Up and How It Affected Me) • LS faced harassment from a very young age which led to insecurity and obsessive record-keeping to defend himself against lies. 1:15:45 "I'm an Eccentric Person" • LS acknowledges he is unusual in many ways which likely contributes to some people disliking/distrusting him. 1:22:18 Drama • LS argues he is involved in relatively few interpersonal conflicts given how long he's been in esports and that he's openly combative. 1:38:20 bbq Olivers Age • LS mentored player Malice but feels he was too set in his toxic ways to change. He housed several bbq players to help with their bad home lives. 1:44:48 Nightblue3 and ProfessorAkali • Despite some past disagreements, LS had a positive in-person conversation with Professor Akali and understands his behavior better now. 1:55:46 Why respond to people? • LS responds to attacks from big streamers to defend/explain himself since their platform gives them an advantage. 2:00:41 TF Blade and Why I Try Helping As Much as I Can • LS was frustrated when accused of trying to get streamers banned when he was actually trying to help them. 2:16:50 Management in Esports Teams • LS is bothered by arbitrary, meaningless titles in esports rather than discernment of actual skills. He gave examples of positive management experiences. 2:31:33 Talking with Faker • LS described his intense, multi-hour conversation with Faker testing his game knowledge as foundational to joining T1 coaching staff. 2:40:35 Max Waldo • LS contrasts his intense passion for esports with Max Waldo's ability to walk away and find peace of mind. 2:49:07 What Needs to Change for League to Evolve • LS is depressed by inability to force change/demonstration of better ideas in League and the complacency of top figures and orgs. 3:00:00 Losing Passion (Content Warning) • After years of intense passion, huge streaming hours and finding no one to match his drive, LS says he has lost motivation and fire for esports. 3:20:00 Surviving the Void (Content Warning) • After facing very dark, suicidal thoughts in the past, LS says nothing really keeps him going - he just endures difficult periods. 3:24:35 My Failure (Content Warning) • LS considers himself a failure for not achieving change in League esports or forcing better demonstration/discernment of good ideas. 3:26:26 Maybe in Another Life... Whatever you do next is up to you and I wish you the best. Don't be sad that you failed. Become wiser and focus on the future. Also invest time into your mental health because imo this is the only thing that is holding you back from reaching your full potential. Look for experts for guidance and people that have already overcome similar problems. That's the most fundumental thing yet very few people take care of it (I'm referring to their mental health). It is not random that the cases of depressed/anxious etc. people are increasing nowadays.

So what I got from this video is that the e-sports industry, the gaming industry, or perhaps only the League of Legends e-sports space is very nepotistic and hence not meritocracious. People end up at jobs not because of their skills but because they know the right people and because of other superficial reasons. That's why they have to reject LS's way of thinking. Because if they made their decisions based on LS's way of thinking, which is just optimized game theoretical strategic logic, the entire League of Legends esports structure would have to get reorganized in such a way that it would lead to many people being fired that don't want to be fired and other people don't want fired. It would lead to people's friends and romantic partners being fired or demoted in order to make space for more skilled individuals. All would be done in service of the most efficient logically demonstrable strategy. But the people in the space don't want to care for upholding such ideals because of what they would have to sacrifice to do so. It would be like bringing the ruthless rigor of the ranked ladder to the jobs and titles of the esports industry. And who wants to willingly subject their livelihood to such rigor if they can obtain the benefits without doing so? They would rather bypass being objectively assessed for competence. They are elo boosting themselves in the real world. All of this combined is tainting the quality of the esports industry. It is preventing it from being what it could be.

26:39 So this is a famous problem in probability called the Monty Hall problem. I think LS fumbled the explanation a bit, the actual answer is that when you first select your door, you have a 2/3 chance of the riches not being in the door you select. This percentage doesn't change when the door with coal is revealed, and neither does the percentage of you getting the riches in the door you chose (1/3). Therefore, you should always switch after being revealed this information. He is right in that at the time (the problem was written to the magazine American Statistician in 1975), many people, include very smart people in stats and probability, refused to accept this as being the "right" choice.

He made me slightly better at league but way better at life and as a father indirectly. He has 0 idea of the lives he has changed and helped by putting himself out there. It’s too hard not to see the negativity and I get it but I hope he can take a well needed break and get his head on right and see how much he has done.

@27:05 it's actually 66% in the door B, not 50/50. You got to imagine it as if you could choose between 1 door, or 2 doors knowing that 1 is demonstrated to not be "prize door" - so the other door "absorbs" the probability of the other door.
@AHK-ny2ix
@AHK-ny2ix 9 ай бұрын
It's still 50/50 lmao. One door being shown as not being the prize door makes it completely irrelevant. As such your choice is only between 2 doors. People just try to act as if the probability is higher because it's 3 doors total but it is not because you just act as if it never existed in the choice by showing that it is not the right one.
@philippschafer1762
@philippschafer1762 9 ай бұрын
@@AHK-ny2ix Actually no. If you always change after one false door was opened, you win 66% of the time. If you chose the door with the price first, one of the other two gets opened, you change to the remaining one and you loose. If you choose one of the other two, the other one without a price gets opened, you change to the one with the price and you win. So you only loose if you chose the door with the price behind it initially wich is 1 in 3 and you win if you chose one of the ones with no price behind them wich are 2 in 3, so 66%.
@AHK-ny2ix
@AHK-ny2ix 9 ай бұрын
@@philippschafer1762 That doesnt make any sense. If you lose 33% of time by picking the door with the price that leaves you with a 66% chance to not lose initially. Or 33% chance to lose. But once you show that one door is opened and is not the prize, it becomes a 50/50. Because once that door got opened you have a 50% chance to win because you have 50% chance that staying on your door is right, and 50% chance that picking the other one is right.

@@AHK-ny2ix best way I found to explain it is add more doors if there are 100 doors, you choose one and then 98 of them are revealed to be wrong swapping to the last remaining door is far liklier to be the correct decision, since the chance of being wrong in the first place was much higher same thing with 3 doors, just a smaller sample size you're more likely to be wrong in your first decision, so sticking with that decision means you have a 33%
@AHK-ny2ix
@AHK-ny2ix 9 ай бұрын
@@danielnizberg1754 Still doesnt change anything. If you have 100 doors that leaves you with a 1/100 chance to be correct. Removing 98 doors brings that chance down to 1/(100-98) or 1/2 Which is a 50/50. So yes your odds of being correct are much higher. That went from 1/100 to 1/2. But that other door doesnt magically get a 99% chance to be correct. Its probability of being correct just adapted to the amount of possible choices. That other door had a 1/100 possibility of being correct, just like your door. Therefor there is no reason for it to be more likely correct than the one you picked.

Misinformation has made so many things confusing and people have started reacting more emotionally rather than logically. In social media, it’s no longer LS’s coaching that blows up, but it’s the drama and emotions that do and get views. One could argue it’s social media algorithms, but it definitely seems to be more of a culture shift that really has taken a worse.

TBH i dont know who DonJake is, but hes the opps. LS mentions that he hates how other people make him feel stupid when hes explaining a higher level concept that they dont understand, Mr Jake waits a couple minutes and then calls him autistic for thinking at a higher level, and tells him his life would be a lot simpler. He also attempts to frame tragedy during the first like 20 minutes, and LS clearly is uncomfortable with the question line. Look LS. You probably not going to read this, but, I understand what you're saying. There is something you don't understand about human behavior. If a being builds anything, using the energy of survival, the hardest thing for that being will be the conversion from survival, to creativity. They've been painting in red. So even with professional players who do not have the physical worry of food, their last 3 or 4 generations might have been in that spot. The curse of logic is the duty of shifting your perspective to those around you who do not have the gift to discern the environment logically. You can't force demonstration until you decide to sink your feet into developing the whole human. This of course if fucking nearly impossible. But thats why we coach games. We only need 5. You're work isnt useless. IF you only knew who you inspired along the way. Peace Love and Balance The world will catch up when they decide to be detailed.

I think that while it may seem that you've failed to change the League scene individually, it is important to remember that without you there would be no advocate for your viewpoint, whereas now there is one. And that perspective has trickled over to many people, whether it is visible or not. History has taught us that many pioneers who were mocked in their day end up creating the foundation of now widely accepted modern methodologies and inventions. While this is in no way suggestive that you leave the scene, the key point is rather that growth and development takes time, and you've undoubtedly planted a seed that has the potential to grow in future iterations of the game and the League scene.

i want to preface this by saying i did not read all the comments, so i don't know if anyone already said this but i wanted to share my thoughts on deserving "peace of mind". in your conversation it seems like "peace of mind" is a resource that can be exhausted therefore there is a 'competition' on who can have it an who can not, a perspective i disagree with (my following perspective may be not accurate and i do acknowledge that it is very difficult to obtain this "peace of mind" in this world, still i think most can achieve it). my view on this is (if you see a peaceful mind as something positive, which i do) even if you think you do not deserve it out of a competitive point of view because someone else "worked harder", the nature of a peaceful mind being non-competitive still qualifies everyone to achieve it. if you can have a positive change in your live and no one else will suffer from it, why not see fit to claim (for the lack of a better term) it for oneself or at least try for it? one can change ones life into something more enjoyable without any costs, so why not strive for it. my intention with this comment is not to critique anyone but rather offer a perspective (which i think is an important one, not to say that it is right) and spark conversations, so please don't take this comment as an attack on anyone. (also english is not my first language so please excuse any spelling or grammatical errors ^^)

how is it 66%? Theres 2 doors and you don't know any additional information, its a 50/50 guess. If you're somehow keeping with the 3 choices chances, then the chance of the opened door by the host(not the player) gets divided up into 2, it doesn't transfer all of its chance to a singular door. Am i missing some additional information, why does door B get special inheritance from C when nothing was said about that?

Maybe LS's way of thinking and "style" of drafting and playing is like that. Maybe in couple of years or even decades when the game would have changed so much... Perhaps they will come back to LS way of drafting, thinking and say it was a genius way of thought into the game. Crazy comparison between a painter and LS but to me, different ideas and new strategies is art to me. Anyways, hope your doing great and hope to be doing great for the rest of your life LS.
