WHAT a great channel. i love watching your ''family'' work on these cars together. it's a riot seeing your girl roll under the car on the creeper to help. arrons' soft spoken knowlege, w/out the usual ''hotdog'' attitude is infatuating. the yorkie is great! watching emily ENTHUSIASTICALLY learn & and express joy & humor is priceless. you are showing us what is missing from many of our lives today. please don't stop.

Another little tech tip, installing the front cover is made easier by partially and temperaly installing the harmonic balancer so as to make sure the cover seal is perfectly centered around the balancer. Then just tighten the bolts.

That cracks me up!! Shake up the champagne, spray all over the place... chuck the bottle in the yard and get out the Jack!!! That is hilarious!! I live in Sonoma County, CA which is one of the premier wine country areas and as you might expect, there are more than a few "discerning wine connoisseurs" around here who would just go apoplectic at that performance. Our gear-head crowd would just love it! It just goes to show that this channel's appeal doesn't depend only upon Emily being gorgeous, or Aaron being smart; we have much more going than just that... ;^)

Epic team.. and build! My wife and I have started a Cherokee build. The rule about this build is that neither one of us touches the vehicle unless the other is there as well.. Of course the grand kids have their place in this. Its been three years since we bought our $1800.00 special and of course, we are nowhere near done (lol).. when we happened upon your channel. Good to see a couple from the younger generation ,with niece, putting together a dream ride together! To quote my wife (though I wont admit to being that much of a softy) "It makes me so happy to see these kids get it!" Cheers!

How do you guys only have 30 30k subscribers? Your videos are like a TV series. It's so fun to watch these and I have zero mechanical experience so most of it is foreign,however, watching you to build these things is mesmerizing. I'm so jealous of you two. I wish I was more handy and I wish my wife and I had something like this to do together. I love your channel guys.

Aloha Emily and, er...Mr Flying Sparks, Summer of 1969, my first job out of HS was as a Lot Boy-honest, that was the job title!-at Kailua Datsun on Oahu. Our dealership received the second of the initial 240Zs in the country. By fall I was blessed to be taken under the wing of Mr. Kaishiwabara our Service Manager and although a mere "helper", through a process of elimination was trained in tuning the dual carb setup on those early 240s. What miserable good fortune! OMG, one small boy taking on the job of two men and a small boy! But that's not why I called. Although we've not formally made acquaintance, I strongly support you folks as proponents of the old-school school-of-automotive-hotrodding; that is to make and/or modify machinery, household appliances, gas powered pencil sharpeners, indoor/outdoor plumbing and literally any other thing to make it bigger, faster, better. We build what we want from our own inner vision using whatever we've got handy or can readily obtain without shame or apology to anyone. If you want it, you find it; if you need it, you make it; if you broke-um, you fix-um; and the real important one: If no fit, put spit! (Mahalo to Mr. Kaishiwabara). Keep the faith! Aloha.

Love your videos, never too long Emily. I agree with some of the others about the content, you both seem to have a lot of knowledge, maybe have a "tech section" in your videos? Just a thought. I think it's awesome how your shop represents a lot of the DIY mechanics out there, not a huge fancy shop with millions of dollars worth of tools sitting around. I will say that I enjoy those videos too, as it is always nice to drool over some really cool shop tech. Love how you both play off each other and share some of your lives with us, gives the videos a great personal touch! Keep it up Flying Sparks Garage, you guys ROCK!

Nice work Emily, your husband made some really exotic exhaust headers. I wonder if they will heat the oil up too much? And if so should not you be putting some header wraps on them? Change the oil after every outing because that is going to cook it? Check your oil to see if its smelling burnt from being cooked. Im pretty sure it will some time or another break down a lot sooner with the header pipe passing right by the oil pan. On the bright side the car will warm up quickly on cold winter days. You will be able to turn the heater on sooner than if they had room to exit with out passing by the oil pan. I really think header wraps would make it a lot safer. You can cook hot dogs or even light a cigarette off of exhaust pipes coming out of the engine. I wonder if the oil will burn?

A saftey tip Emily (and others) don't use a bench grinder with gloves on, if the glove gets caught between the stone and tool rest your hand will be dragged in. I get you wear gloves because the metal gets hot if you get a linisher for small stuff that get hot you will be a lot safer with the gloves on

I'm liking goggles these days more than safety glasses. Get vented ones, so they don't fog-up. They can be found on eBay quite cheap, or at safety stores for the same price as your car. Over the years I've had a few sneaky bits of iron sneak through beside my nose when my melon is tilted whilst grinding. Glasses are for amateurs at my place now.

These headers will give you nightmares. When you need to pull the oilpan or starter, you'll need to remove the complete header. The pipes under the oilpan will bring extra heat into the oil. The oil might cook and form sludge. Also, the pipes of the header will expand when they get hot and put tension on a lot of parts of the engine and exhaust. Love your videos, but this scares me a bit
@flyingsparksgarage
@flyingsparksgarage 7 жыл бұрын
WateenKutzooiisdit Thanks for the concern!! We did a lot of research on building these, and dude, if our pan or starter need to come off, the whole motor is coming out- the headers are quite obviously ONE piece! 🤣 to keep heat down from the oil, we wrapped them in titanium wrap. They are imperfect in so many ways, but I think you should worry a little less! 😊 It's all good! 👍🏼

Be careful with rigidity in the Z. I have a 240, and if you put a motor that makes too much torque it'll completely bend the chassis. I'd recommend having a cage, that'll realllly help the body stay straight. Also could stitch weld the entire thing.

Agreed. I unfortunately tweaked my unibody in a 2005 Legacy GT today when I finally did a test with 21 psi on a big turbo setup. Chipped the paint on my passenger front door now that it contacts the rear door. Will have to straighten it slightly and add the rest of my body reinforcements and part of the cage.
