Hardcore Iowa Women's Basketball fan here. Some surprising things happened to me in the course of last year's post-post-season & this great year of fierce competition. I became a genuine Flau'jae fan. My heart went out to Hailey Van Lith as she reinvented herself & her game. And, first but not least, I discovered I secretly harbored a deep respect for Angel Reese as I got to know her better through her interviews - her self-awareness, her honesty, her toughness and, yes, her vulnerability, too. I've found that, without any real effort whatsoever, there's a lot that can be gained simply by listening to her a little more carefully and sympathetically. She's a difference-maker, and not just on a basketball court. Whether or not we always agee with her, somehow she makes us think critically. She makes us ask some big, difficult questions about both ourselves and our society. That's an amazing contribution to our world coming from a 21-year-old. Most surprising of all, BY FAR, I've come to seriously *like* Kim Mulkey. It's not hard in interviews like this one to see why her players love playing for her. Somehow none of this changes my fandom for Caitlin & the Hawkeyes. It somehow enriches it. When love does its thing, it expands us and it expands our world: it doesn't make us smaller.

Coaching mistakes by Mulkey: 1. Flaujae should have guarded Clark. 2. Morrow should have been tasked with scoring more. Let her get 40. Iowa couldn't slow down Morrow. 3. Williams should have been tasked with scoring more. Iowa couldn't slow her down either. 4. Del Rosario, Morrow and Reese in the game at the same time would have killed Iowa. When you have a SG like Clark you can't shut her down she's a scorer that's when plan B let C do her thang contain Clark's #2,#3,#4 options you have to make Clark attempt more shots than normal meaning they statistically Clark attempt's 19.9 a game never more than 30 so defense strategy would be make her attempt at least 10-15 shots per half and the switching defense difference Clark would be tired down in the 4th quarter
@SharonFord-mq2kj2 ай бұрын
You can't play man to man defense on Clark cause ur guards will get frustrated and won't be able to concentrate on running their offense that's why it's gonna take 2 guards to wear Clark down with containing C's #2,3,4 options you will be victorious the 1 thing that frustrates a SG is to much considering defense cause most times when they watch films they will focus on defensive guard not 2 so now Clark's other options will get in foul trouble for trying to set picks plus now you lesser players on the offensive boards

Also, LSU would jog back down the court for defense following their offensive possessions like they were tired, even after scoring. And Iowa always had at least one girl sprinting full speed back down after LSU offensive possessions and beat all the LSU girls back down the court for the easy fast break lay-up. Iowa did that the whole game, and LSU never made an adjustment.
