Mr Humphrey , welcome home Sir! Thank you for your service. You didnt find Oklahomans mistreating Viet Nam vets. Not in rural Oklahoma, not at OSU. We were ashamed of our country's leadership, ashamed of Nixon and Johnson and the politicians . We wanted our men and women home because we knew they were being hung out to dry and that there was no intention to win , not because we wanted "peace" or were unwilling to fight communism and freedom in other countries. Shame on anyone that showed disrespect for the American , Canadian , Australian service men and women that went to Viet Nam.

What a fine man. To be reserved and decent enough to say it “kinda hurts” in referring to the disrespect these guys were met with when they came home. I’m sure it’s more than “kinda” .

Apparently never airborne qualified, so had to command respect amongst airborne troops in his field platoon. With the war winding down and troop strength diminishing, staying alive would have been a chief priority up against NVA as well as other ranking officers willing to take risks to gain more resume before their opportunities ended. Walking down any trail was hazardous. Safer to stay in the jungle foliage and parallel the trail. Did a very respectable job. I commend you for your service.
