English name: Mukulungu. Scientific name: Madhuca pasquieri. Saffron is a plant belonging to the Sapodilla family. Place of distribution: The tree is often distributed in China, Thailand, and Vietnam. In Vietnam, the tree grows in tropical jungles from Lao Cai, Lang Son, Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh. In addition, there are also naturally occurring species of Sedge wood in the West and Central of Africa with the two-part nomenclature of Autranella congolensis, commonly known as South African Saffron wood.

Average weight of wood: 945 kg/m3 Specific gravity of wood (Moisture 12%): 0.94 Wood hardness: 2310 N Wood brittleness: 74 MPa Elasticity of wood: 17.06 GPa Compressive strength of wood: 119 MPa Shrinkage of wood: Radial shrinkage is 5.8%; Tangential shrinkage is 7.4%; Volumetric shrinkage is 14.8%. The T/R ratio is 1.1. Color of Sen wood: The heartwood is reddish brown, the wood has few senses and is clearly separated from the heartwood.
