A timelapse showing how I design and build parts for a model airplane I've been working on for a few years now. I look at photos and draw the plans from scratch in 2D in Illustrator (yes, clearly I should take the time to learn how to use a 3D modeling program).
This video was created from about 12+ hours of raw footage.

Luca, your work and skills are absolutely outrageous! I´m a builder myself (a church organ builder) and had to manage some fiddly detail-work in my job, too. But never ever I would have thought that such precision like yours could be possible (with paper!!!). Do you get money for what you do? I hope so and I hope a lot...;-) Again: Hats off! And keep it up! P.S. Can we see the finished 777 sometime somewhere?

Thurman Ulrich The scale for the project is 1:60, so I simply divide the actual dimensions by 60 and draw them at scale in Illustrator. When I go to print, they print at scale, which is the size I need.

@lucaiaconistewart 10 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. I guess I've just stuck to the weird system I've developed cause it works for me right now. If I were to design another model, I would absolutely invest the time in 3D modeling. I have to say that thinking in 2D really forces you to understand what you're doing.
@aliebchen
@aliebchen 10 жыл бұрын
***** 3d would help, but I was thinking only of using the 2d drafting tools in AutoCad, which would allow you to keep thinking in coordinated orthogonal views. The benefit of 2d AutoCad is better object snapping, alignment, and modification tools.
