Lucas is among the top 10 greatest living pianists. A great artist and virtuoso in the same tradition as the 19th century keyboard giants. When Lucas plays its often like hearing the music for the first time.

Very well put. I watched his first Tchaikovsky competition he first appeared. I loved his playing even he didn't win. But the smart Russians treasured him and he flourished!

Yes. He's really original. Not just another virtuoso. It's obvious it's all about the music for him. I've heard him improvise Thelonious Monk's Round Midnight as well. And in the Mozart piano concerto at the Tchaikovsky, he played his own cadenza. He's a musician's musician.
