The greatest soprano/tenor duo in history. Period.

We’ll OK but there’s also Flagstad/Melchior. Rethberg/Bjoerling. Ponselle/Caruso (alas, unrecorded) or Ponselle/Martinelli.

The beard and mustache he wore later in his career suited him much more than the bare face look.

What you mean never heard of them sing together before?? They’re one of the most important partnership in the history of opera!!
@monelleny2 жыл бұрын
@@jakegarlick140 - Now, I know that. Amazing, right? :) I tend to prefer Italian opera, and I'm not sure that was Sutherland's bailiwick, although that could just be my ignorance ... Visually, by the way, I am not crazy about their interaction. They seem cold and competitive.

Old, muffled videotape recording, a lot of hums, hisses, backgroung noise...but Luciano’s voice, without microphones, comes live, shiny, brassy. I can hear the hall resounding. Rays of light through time and space.

The most profitable duet pair for Decca, ever, apparently. She gave him his big break with her three-operas-a-week tour of Australia in the 60's. Hard to believe he couldnt read music. Bonynge says he was a complete natural. Not keen on rehearsal but keen on performing.

Joan's voice was so strong! She practically blasted Luciano away completely! 😁

i hate to educate you since ignorance being bliss you must walk around in a huge constant daze...not only is what you say evidently wrong..but it was Pavarotti who..blows joan away here and in all their performances as the audience always demonstrated.....once breaking into hysterical applause after Luciano completed his aria..containing 9!!!..HIGH C's

I heard both of them in concert. Pavarotti had a beautiful voice but it wasn't that large. Sutherland had a beautiful voice and it was gigantic.

@@SymphonyBrahms Pavarotti's projection, incisive tone, and clarity of words matched all comers including Joan..and yes, i heard them too.

I heard Pavarotti many times in Rome, at Teatro Costanzi whith my grandma who transmitted me her love for Opera. Since she was child he heard at Costanzi Lauri Volpi, Schipa and Gigli. She said to me that the power of his voice was near Lauri Volpi and the clarity of his speech better than Schipa.
