Are you interested in welding, turning, milling and plasma cutting? This video about making a grinder with your own hands from designing to testing the finished machine contains all of it! I made the grinder for the first time, and it was a very interesting experience. See how it was ;)

Hey Lucia, As a 58 year old engineer I absolutely love what you are doing here. Cool designs, quality engineering and up-cycling where possible. What a range of skills you have mastered coupled with superb videos. Most of all you are demonstrating that the joy and satisfaction that comes from engineering is not just "men only" it is for everyone. Excellent work.

Same here. Impressive work, and great videos made. Sad to see in the comment sections that there are quite a few men around that are having quite big problems with seeing a lady outdoing them in 'their' trade. The world moves forward, but quite slow within some fields. Yes to more women in the field of metal working.

Wow, that's honestly one of the best built grinders I've seen so far... Starting with using your scraps and not grapping back to stock material, makes this one unique... Also it's always a pleasure to see people master their craft, so all thumbs up to you Lucia! Though I'm a little bit jealous for your workshop... 😉

YOU ARE ABSOLUTLY AMAZING LUCIA!!! I just came across your channel by accident, a very good accident indeed, because there was metal involved, only watched a few minutes before I subscribed, now I'm hooked! Amazing attention to detail as well! Top-notch videography too! Your belt grinder build is flawless! Watching here in Missouri, the heartland in the USA. Your machine & tool arsenal is...well, what all of us metal fabricators drool over, you have every machine one could hope to ever own (at a home-small business) shop. Thank you for sharing your skills and craft with all of us out here, I can't wait to see more! I'll probably click on your videos and binge all night with a good cabernet. I've watched many welding, metal working, casting, machine shops on youtube but you Lucia, are the only one that actually cleans up after yourself as you work! Great job and very impressive!

It's like a Burr King Belt Grinder I had for Knife Making. It cost me $1500 back in the 80's and I loved that tool . They are around $2400 now and I sure wish I had mine still. With the Baldor Motor they last forever. I took it apart to ship it and lost some of the parts and it was never the same. I should have left it intact. Great work ~ You are the shopsmith's dream girl and I wish you well. The Burr King Knife Maker I think that was it's name and they still make them. Aloha ~

If you were to consign a one-off it to be manufactured from a rough sketch and list of criteria, it would be in the 50-60K USD range... in volume, this COULD be brought down to roughly 8-9K USD ( 2000+ pieces )

It is so nice to see a woman in the metal shop. Now that I know that it was your grampa's shop, I know where the older machines came from. The older machines were built to last and were not made from sheet metal and plastic like today's machines are. You just can't beat cast iron, bronze, or solid steel, especially for milling machines. I liked the sequencing of the video, though I wouldn't mind seeing the entire build. You have yourself a new subscriber! My father was a welder and taught me how to Tig-weld when I was twelve yrs old. He had a huge welder mounted to the back of his pickup truck and would drive it to different jobs. We would take trips to the junkyard with a bucket and fill it up with interesting machine parts to make into animals that I loved. I miss Dad. I'm now 60 and own several welders myself. I am saving for an expensive plasma-cutting machine! I do woodworking primarily, but started 10 yrs ago to incorporate metal into the furniture I build, and love the creativity that comes with the two. PS: What region of Italy are you in?

I like the casting of aluminium into a billet and then to the lathe to extract the parts from those cast slugs. I have that much in mind for my sander. Also though a wider belt. I think you may have had a thoroughly good time making this tool. It's fantastic too.

Fantastic video and a great project! Others have already said it all really and I agree with them! The one thing that eally stuck out was recycling your workshop waste aluminium and then using it on the project.
