Too bad charity stars is a largely For Profit company that uses gambling science to get your money. They keep a large sum of all the money and their small donations allow them to make tons of tax write-offs. People should just donate directly to a cause. Bad looks.

We need Sandy Munro to teardown the Lucid Air and compare it to the Tesla. Also, it "seems" that Rivian has the best quality between these three brands.

Thanks for the review, Ryan. 🙂👍 It's an excellent first product, and the slightly rough edges should be sorted out with time and customer feedback. I'd be very impressed if they made a RHD version, for sale in Britain, and the other lands who drive on the left side of roads. They have a combined population of around 2 billion people.

My Grand touring Air was delivered in early Sept 2022---I am glad to report that the issues reported in the above review are no longer an issue---Having driven approximately 4700 miles sine since then---no rattling or creaking in the vehicle and the blind spot delay not a delay. Hey Ryan, agree on all accounts. I have Tesla Y, X Plaid, and S plaid. And I got a new Lucid 2 weeks ago Grand Touring. Great a luxurious car, software needs a lot of work. Simple things that continually bog down software-wise. I feel like they need to do a lot of work to make this an enjoyable car tech-wise. It is fast and a great car to drive, but for the cost, this is not there.

Polestar has sold over 55,000 Polestar 2 cars to date - more than Lucid and Rivian. Polestar plans to produce 290,000 cars by 2025. Polestar 3 should be as popular as Tesla's Model Y. Polestar 2 has a $7500 EV tax credit advantage over Tesla and GM. $5 a gallon in the USA should be great news for EV manufacturers and also for EV stocks. Looking forward to the Polestar merger vote on 22nd June. Happy to be a Polestar GGPI & TSLA & LCID & CHPT investor.

Ryan, Pull over! This is the grammar police. At 21:40, The Lucid doesn't drive "...as good as the Tesla...", it drives as '...well as the Tesla.' (It's a good job, well done not a well job good done.) And incidentally, you've done a good job of comparing and contrasting the Lucid & the Tesla. My only nit to pick is I would suggest when you're pointing to various items, describe and say what you're pointing at. Example; The 3 distinct zones of the dashboard you could describe as; Left, Middle & Right. And one last comment: Car reviews are notorious for colorful & descriptive language to convey the emotive aspects of the car. Your auditory style comes across like you're a Preachers' Son. Please, keep up the good work!

Good review. The Dream edition cars were similar to a "Founders Series" and are no longer being made. Those first edition cars do seem to have more little issues with trim and squeaks. The Air GT (same features but 'only' 800hp) I received about a month ago is flawless and dead silent other than the low-speed motor sound that I too find quite appealing. A major feature not mentioned is the ridiculously fast charging speed. Plugging in at 10-15% I get 22 miles per minute, adds 200 miles faster than a restroom break and buying a soda for the road. I got an OTA update last night that supposedly improves the nav and addresses a number of bugs. Hopefully it launches more quickly [EDIT: "Hopefully the *software* launches more quickly..." The car itself launches dramatically, almost painfully quickly] because that can be pretty slow. The car will drive before the big screen is loaded so if you have to hop in and go, that works.

@@cosettapessa6417 I paid 139kUSD plus prep and shipping (they detail it and delivered to my door). Price went up for later orders and a more powerful version came out since then. Prices today range from 87kUSD to 180kUSD. Warranty for everything is for 4 years and 50,000 miles. After that the battery and motor units are covered for a total of 8 years or 100,000 miles. The car goes on sale in Europe later this year. Price and warrantee will likely be different there. Production will be slow until the factory expansion is finished. construction is ongoing (see "BearsWorkshop" on KZfaq to see that), but pre-ordered cars are shipping today. Sold out until mid-2023. See LucidMotors dotcom for some cool configuration tools and graphics and to see more details. "Lucid Motors" KZfaq channel also has lots of great info, including race footage and a couple detailed Tech Talk videos covering batteries and design.

I made a reservation for the pure version a while back before they raised the price for 10k. After tax credit that one is like 70k. That puts it in an interesting spot. Range is a tad better than base model s, is only RWD and is much slower, but it's 30k cheaper and does not force one to use a yoke. I do think with the recent price increase the lucid loses much of its competitiveness though. But it is always good to have alternatives and the deposits are fully refundable

From my perspective, this car has so many buttons, knobs, and switches, I believe it is a great example of the antithesis of what Elon has stated is optimal design; the best part is no part. My real need would be the possibility to cool the frunk. In the summer or heat it in the winter. You cant fix slow or lagging screens with software, it's chip driven, and would require great chips to begin with. If anything software updates will just make evrything slower, and sluggish, not faster and crisp. Thus the advantage of Tesla chips with Nvidia, they are future proof for what they do.

Software can be optimized to improve performance. The use of scripting tools like LUA are great for writing UI software quickly, but performance can be bad. The Nvidia chips you talk about are used for the image processing for the self driving functions.

One thing about that lucid, with all those moving parts, you know those moving blinds and center console is going to break eventually. that's one nice thing about the tesla, 5- 8 years from now there really isn't any moving parts in the cabin to break. I have an 8 year old minivan and even the vent shutters are breaking, fuel door etc. Anything that movmes will break. Imagine that repair bill from a company like that.

The Tesla is not way better. I own three of them, and not the dinky, cheapass Model 3 or Model Y either. Software glitchiness aside, the Lucid has it all over any Tesla, in many ways but a few (road trip charging and software crudeness being two). The Lucid Air is what I had always hoped the Model S could have been, but never was. And never will be. I’m not in the least bit interested in the Roadster, or the Cyber Truck. I’ve placed an order for the Air Grand Touring. It’s my first step of many, to get away from anything having to do with EEEEHLOHHHN. Selling my Teslas will be next.

As strange as this may sound.. That's too much range. I don't think I wouldn't want to sit in a car for that long between stops. With my M3 Stealth, long road trips seem to hit the sweet spot between time on the road covering distance and stopping for 10-15 min to charge, letting me and the family take restroom breaks/stretch legs/grab food/etc. Someone correct my math, but 520 miles at 70 mph would be almost 7.5 hours of continuous driving.

The amount of times you had to say 'feels premium', which is all good and well, but I am not in the market for premium, and I think for the specs that matter to me I wish more new start-ups would focus on bringing the price down while maintaining good specs, I don't care about massaging chairs, or the stitching and styling, too many are copying the Tesla playbook, start with premium and then eventually try to make more afforable models, I think this is why Chinese brands will make inroads, and take over large market segments, we have enough luxury brands now.

Excellent comparison! The only thing I have my doubts about is the range. Too bad you were not able to test that out, at least one third of it so you could extrapolate. These estimates are notoriously poor since they don't take into account how much drops off due to speed, temperature, altitude, A/C usage etc etc etc.
@newscoulomb3705
@newscoulomb3705 2 жыл бұрын
It appears that Lucid is using the less optimistic EPA testing cycle, which means their range estimates should be 10% to 15% better than the equivalent Tesla range rating (Tesla uses the more optimistic EPA testing cycle). Several reviews so far have validated Lucid's range claims, and it appears that 470 to 500 miles is easily achievable on a charge, even at freeway speeds.
