This is the fourth time I’m watching this episode and I’m still wiping away tears. Trixie coming in and asking for her dad breaks me every time.

Like Rana said, when you remember that Chloe lost her dad when she was young and now she has to see her daughter go through the same thing... that hurts

Heartbreaking episode... “My dear sweet child” thats the line that GOT me. Love how that one line shows so much character development from the first season of the show

This was the actor's idea- and at the time they thought this was the last season. Season 6 answers a lot of questions.

They didn’t fly Charlotte to Heaven from Hell. Amenadial flew her from Earth immediately after she died. The only times someone was brought from Hell it was just their souls into another body on Earth (excluding Charlotte who went back into her own body after the Goddess left). In Malcolm’s case he was brought back with the coin which was only a one time use.

Scarlett Estevez was amazing this episode. Trixie breaks my heart every time I see this episode.

Season 1 I never could have imagined how much this was going to hurt.

7:17 I think Dan realized the woman was held hostage because she said to him "I got a roast in the oven" which could be used as a secret call for help.

"Why?! Why kill Dan, there's a whole season left?" They didn't know that when they filmed this. That's always been one thing about Lucifer...it's always been on that knife-edge of cancellation...so almost every season has been filmed as if it's the finale. The other thing is...they wanted there to be consequences. People have come back from the afterlife a few times in the show, and they wanted this to be permanent, to create real stakes...to show the audience that there's not always an easy out, and even Angels and God have rules to follow. That's the thing about the world...shitty things happen to good people...and there's fuck-all that can ever be done about it.

This episode comes out of nowhere especially after so many emotionally heavy episodes with linda and her daughter, lucifer pranking dan, god and his wife leaving, then BAM, semi truck of emotions after the episode casually highlights dan and how good he is to people, but then reminds you that there's something more complicated because when we first saw him he was a dirty cop for the first couple of seasons which they brought up in the prank episode. Dan found peace with himself about what he used to do but...he still ended up in hell _NO ONE EVER EXPECTS THIS_

Season 6 didn't get picked up until after they finished shooting season 5. This was meant to be part of the show's finale, which is why it was so unexpected.

Seeing Lucifer cry over Dan is one of the most beautiful things about this series, especially remember how he treated him in season 1. The growth is amazing. This episode broke me the first time I saw it.

I haven’t watched this episode in a year and watching this reaction and watching Trixie react brought me back to tears- watching Rana’s reaction also broke me 😩😭

This is such an emotional episode, I remember crying and being angry the 1st time watching it too! I loved seeing your reaction to it and how much yall love Dan. Yall definitely need to keep watching til the very end, trust me. For me personally, i think Lucifer(the show) has a very satisfying ending and im dying to see yalls reaction to it

I was exactly like all of you when I saw this episode. All the way up until the point when Dan got shot, I thought for sure the team was going to find him in time, or he would manage to escape. I was so certain of it that I was hugely stunned when he got shot. And then... they faked me out again, because he was still alive when Chloe found him, so I thought, okay there's still a chance. But then Dan was giving last words to Chloe and Trixie, and I was like, holy shit, they're going to kill him, seriously?! But they faked me out one last time when they were all standing around in the hospital. I thought, okay, maybe there's still the smallest chance he'll pull through. But as soon as I heard Trixie's voice, I was like, oh shit. He's dead. And her telling Maze not to cry (and Maze trying really hard to look strong in that moment) made me cry, and then Trixie begging Lucifer to tell her the truth and Lucifer calling her "my dear sweet child"... gut-wrenching. That killed me. I will say that even though I was stunned about Dan's death, I do think it makes for an interesting potential storyline for Dan (and the actor) to continue on the show, because instead of being gone (the end), he can stay on the show, dealing with guilt and being a human in hell, which could be really thought-provoking. So I was grateful for that potential option rather than losing the actor altogether.

I was so used to having good come that the heartbreak of Dan's death struck deep. I've played and replayed "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye," and every time I get a tear. As with Rita Bennett's death (Dexter 4x12) the shock is complete. I can see each of you have basically had the s**t kicked out of you by this episode. Damn Jerry! Yet, there is more to come...

Guys, amenadiel brought Malcolm from hell in S1, because Malcolm only had 30 seconds in hell. His body was still whole. Let me remind you that there is no purgatory in this show. you go to heaven or hell if Dan is not in heaven, he is definitely in hell. S5 was supposed to be the last season of the show, that's why the actor who plays Dan asked to die in a heroic way. Missing to shoot a few episodes of the S5, Netflix requested the S6, for which the writers had to adjust the end of the S5 and give continuity to the S6.

Dan died scared, crying, and in pain. Bad final moments.

Angels can’t kill humans or it will trigger consequences like plagues or natural disasters, and that’s why Lucy let Maze do all the work.

We don't know if Dan is in hell yet because neither Lucifer nor Maze confirmed it; only Amanadiel confirmed Dan was not in heaven . Michael may nave hidden Dan's soul somewhere as part of his plan. Although Dan killed in self defence, the assassin was in a vulnerable position so maybe Dan is in Purgatory. I am not watching any episodes beyond The Normies so I am only guessing and speculating as they do per episode.
