i was watching this documentary and heard this voice like gravel beneath the wheels of a car yet soft and sweet like melted candy. couldnt sleep last night until i put a face with it. Lucinda Williams. wow. this woman is one of the last of the real folk and country music singers. before the days of pop country. if you dont like country, i implore you to look up some of her music. she is a force like none other. if anything, her words will move you. haunting and beautiful

This song is so fitting to the documentary of Ghost of Highway 20. This all took place in Oregon on highway 20. A very sad 5 episodes. RIP to all the women and girls that lost their lives to one horrible man... Lucinda words and voice give this documentary the tone it needs. Great voice, Lucinda.

My name is Edward not Connie I worked for odot summer work I worked for painting crew we painted roads highway 22 Salem to Santiam pass at the junction is where region 2 ends picks up highway 20 all the way to Newport. 1994 we painted to the junction worked out of odot yard where leave paint truck, paint we drive pickups back to the valley. Summer at the junction was a skeleton crew. The paint crew would work out of junction winter some with families some alone for 3 months running snow plows most of these guys knew the guy they took me up a forest road not far from the junction you could look out for a ways they said the guy said he loved it up there, they find him there a lot, they said don't know what he'd liked about it, but they could find him there a lot. The story was creepy

Such a hauntingly beautiful song in tribute to such a horrific crime spree. I wish I could reach out and wrap my arms around Marlene to comfort her, ease her pain and so undeserved feelings of guilt. Marlene Gabrielsen is indeed a strong, beautiful native woman! A lady worth knowing and respecting and loving!

Perfect song and voice. Makes me cry. My heart truly aches for the brother left behind who felt he should've done more to protect his sister. Honey you were a child yourself. There's no blame on your part. I wish I knew the words to comfort you. I know how much my 2 sons love their sister. Please don't let this take you down. You deserve good things in this life. You know your sis wouldn't want you to be sad. God Bless You.

So I usually put youtube on before I go to bed, pick some random documentary and doze off. Serial killer documentaries are ideal, because they're usually presented with calm, slow narration, atmospheric music and very few sudden bursts of noise. Same thing last night. The autoplay was on, so I woke up this morning, 6am, with "The Ghosts of Highway 20" playing on my laptop, no idea what it was about, or where the story was going, halfway through the documentary. Half awake I watched it til the end, and then immediately pressed replay. This song adds such a great forlorn and desolate feeling to the whole thing, I think it was the reason I was so captivated.

I just finished watching The Ghosts of Highway 20. When the soulful drawl of this song came on, the hairs on my arms started tingling. I knew then that this song was very special and has a mission. The mission is to keep touching the hearts of everyone who hears it, so we never forget the ghosts of highway 20. Nor its innocent victims. I know I never will.🥺

She has a unique vocal that adds so much impact to this folk song. I watched the entire documentary this song was played to. It saddened me that so much hate and carelessness existed against the guy's first victim and the only survivor. All that bigotry clouded the judgement of law enforcement. I lay the deaths of all those subsequent victims DIRECTLY at the feet of the police whose racism blinded their sense of justice.
@offgridjack5779
@offgridjack5779 3 жыл бұрын
The misogyny against women from law enforcement in Oregon is thick, even to this day. They dismiss ALL women and let guys off with all kinds of crimes. They even go so far as try to get the women to leave town so they don't have to do anything. Baker County is ripe with it.

Racism? Virtually all if not all his known murder victims were white. Misogyny ? Yes, likely. Impoverished and marginalized people of any and ALL races being dismissed? Yes as usually are everywhere in country. But don’t throw the race card into this monsters mayhem. Those initial police that dismissed the young natives girls rape claim were clearly idiots and their horrendous mistake led to many future taken and broken lives. But nothing to do with “racism”.

"I know this road, like the back of my hand, same with stations on the FM band, farms and truck stops, fireworks stands, I know this road, like the back of my hand..." Goose bumps and such a soul haunt! Solid work by John Angier, and with sound designer/composer, John Bowen, who reworked this song, and I believe had Lucinda sing it slower. It is TRULY one of the most haunting, fitting pieces of work on ALL fronts, for a documentary such as this - EVER! Kudos to ALL involved in that documentary!

Been a fan of Lucinda since the early days but never had this album. In 2017 I drove to Oregon for the solar eclipse and meet up with my son and his climbing buddies who wanted to view the total eclipse from a mountain top known as 3 Finger Jack. Got to the area a couple days early to secure a camping spot at the PCT trailhead on Hwy 20, drove all the local Camp Sherman back roads and up & down Hwy 20 many times. Back home a few months later KZfaq offered up the documentary and I watched in stunned silence as I recognized places I had just been. We were camped across the highway from the ski area and just a mile or so from the Santiam junction ODOT station.

Wesley, I saw the documentary and looked up the song too! The song is hauntingly appropriate. I live in neighboring Washington state and have traveled those stretches of Highway 20 over the years. I'm 66 but do not recall these stories. They occurred back before the internet and instant news. You should also research Highway of Tears, named after a stretch of remote highway in BC Canada where many girls and women were murdered starting in 1970. Very sad. My ex and I rode our motorcycles from Washington state up through British Columbia and the whole stretch of Highway of Tears. Beautiful scenery but very sobering knowing the history. RIP to all the victims. 🙏
