Lucius Vettius was the Roman Jeffrey Epstein, just without much in the way of leverage. His allegations were the talk of the town for a short period of time, but he died after two days of testifying to the existence of a murder plot against Pompey the Great. It was universally believed that he had been murdered and that he had been acting on behalf of a more powerful party. Vettius was unmourned and his murder remained unsolved.
