At Healing Hospital Chandigarh, Dr Tarandeep Singh Gill utilises the latest technology in Knee Arthritis surgeries which improves accuracy, reduces pain, reduces complications and helps patients recover faster.
It is known as “RoboLens- FT3D Knee Resurfacing Technique” which is based on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning Algorithms and Augmented Reality [powered by Microsoft (USA) and Unity Engine Denmark (EU)]
1. To use this technology in knee surgery first the patient has to get a CT scan done, the CT scan is of the entire lower limb (which includes Hip joint, Knee joint and Ankle joint).
2. Once the CT scan is done, the Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning algorithms reconstruct the CT data into a 3D Virtual Replica of patient’s entire lower limb.
3. The system then utilises the same algorithms to calculate the following parameters for the planned knee surgery
• Dimensions of bone cuts in knee surgery
• Tibial cut alignment
• Femoral cut alignment
• Implants size which would best mimic the natural knee kinematics.
4. With the use of this technology and surgical technique, the invasive drilling of the right femur bone is not required. Also, intra-medullary alignment rod is not inserted in the thigh femur bone which helps reduce the changes of pulmonary fat embolism, blood loss and iatrogenic fractures.
5. Less Post operative Pain - Since Thigh femur bone is not drilled and intra-medullary alignment rod is not inserted in femur thigh bone, the patient experiences Less pain.
6. ICU stay after the knee surgery is not required.
7. Metal staples after the knee surgery are not required.
8. Knee replacement surgery with RoboLens - FT3D Knee Resurfacing technique is performed under Spinal Anesthesia only. General Anaesthesia is not required. Epidural infusion for 24-48 hours is not required.
9. Reduced surgical time - Pre operative CT Based planning guides the surgeon step by step which helps reduce the surgical time to 15-25 minutes only.
