How could I forget one of my most important 'tools'!?! I guess there's a first for everything. I got on site and realized I forgot to put my main camera in the pack, but luckily I had packed my little action camera (that I typically just use for Timelapse footage), so I was barely able to really film with that, and holding my phone. But, I just had to push on. Three windows mostly installed and more insulation/outsulation. This process is feeling painfully slow with limited time on site, but oh well. Just plug away.
I nearly didn't post a video for today as I didn't feel like it was good enough (not having the main camera made filming kinda hard. haha), but I wanted to keep to my schedule if possible, so I thought I would complete the wood shed at home. I had read a couple of comments that gave a great suggestion for my fascia dilemma, and it was such a great suggestion, I wanted to attempt it. So I can pretty much say the wood shed is complete. Nearly.
Also a bitter-sweet day for me at the cliff as that would be the last day I would drive out there in my tacoma. I spent the better part of this past week sourcing out a truck, driving to different towns to test drive, and I finally found the truck I was looking for! I have owned my tacoma for 12-13 years, so I'm kinda attached to the old girl, but also looking forward to the new wheels (and suspension 😊).
Anyway, hope things start to move more quickly at the cliff cabin -- feeling the pressure with the seasons changing and a whole other list of chores between our two properties.
C'est la vie!
See you all in the next video 💕
M

That piece at the bottom of the casement window is part of the sill nose. Some manufacturers, like Pella, use a back rabbeted brickmold ( as opposed to flat casing ) which will then align with that portion of the sill nose, and thus that part would be outside of the sheathing. I don't know what brand of window that is but based on the hardware, I have to say that it is not a Pella window. I was the shop foreman at Pella of Georgia for 12 years.

Making progress, michy, and you have two new helpers: Johnny and cash. Just think like a drop of water, when your drying a structure in. That's a bummer about the facia boards, but not the end of the world. Just leave it off too the side. Finish your insulation, and siding then put it back on.😊👍that decorative piece looks okay, for the what it is. Have a good day, your doing fine ,have a blessed week amen. Ps right on about your new truck, kudos 🙂👍✌️👋

Aloha Michygoss. I too enjoy the elevated lake view. I enjoy seeing you adapt to the required solving all your building thingies needs. Refreshing to show your building confidence. Most don't have such abilities. Then, in those quiet moments fifty years later they say .... I should have at least tried..... In my case, I lived in Sandpoint learning what you're showing us. In the long run make it sturdy, you are. You will know every crook and cranny. If Johnny & Cash greet you as you enter their cabin. I'll betcha know how they got in. Time to invest in a bunch of glass pint, qt., ½gal., gallon chipmunk proof containers. Now for your final piece of "odd" wood placed on your wood shed. Personally I watched that part and thought....I hope she put N O NAILS in it. Why? I figure a good fist bump or hammer tap would be well enough. I figure it's a race between that last placed piece versus the entire woodshed. Which one is gonna cave in and collapse first? As in so to speak a "race". Will the shed collapse 50 years from now and allow that piece of final wedged wood hit the ground? Or, will the winter snow, summer dryness cause that wedge of wood to drop? The race is on. I like be here 50 years to see what won? Imagine the day you find that wedge on the ground? Maybe not. You'll/we'll see.

The piece of wood on the bottom of the sill is a ground to space the window out from the sheathing. This allows the sill to lap over the siding for drainage and helps align the exterior jamb to the siding face so the casing can overlap the siding.

When you are finished with it and are sitting on the deck you can sit and relax and enjoy their visits. I envy you. Cabin really coming along nicely. Anxiously waiting for the end result! RE Overkill. Think of it this way, when the colonists came in 1620 they didn't have anything, just axes and shovels and stone and wood. No nails, no screws, no chain saws or Tyvek or even glass for windows. They built houses out of what they had and they lasted a hundred years in some cases. A little water intrusion is not the end of the world, it will dry. Anyway, it's knowing the material that counts, not just the tool or method and those people knew how to use the materials at hand. You could make a lot of cool little bird houses with all that scrap wood and hang them all over your little fairy forest and attract a bunch of different birds and stuff. If you have a source for clay nearby you could make a kiln and throw your own clay pots. I would definitely have a wood fired kiln out there. You could build a stone fireplace to keep you toasty warm. I would start with a massive work bench first though. You keep going, you're learning a lot out there!
