If you have watched any of our alignment or suspension videos in the past, you will have heard us say at some point something like "It doesn't matter how much power you make if you can't put it to the ground". In this case we are working on a 4th generation Camaro, a 2002 model that is in dire need of some extra traction!
Originally designed as a budget friendly modern muscle car for the street this generation benefited from one of the biggest changes to hit the automotive industry in decades, the birth of the LS platform. Anyone who's looked around at modified cars / racecars / muscle cars/ off roaders knows the power and reliability to be had from the LS platform, especially in this case when it's under boost. However, the suspension didn't have near the complete redesign and was more for "mild street manners" where most of these cars would live than for drag race usage.
Enter the fully adjustable coilover setup we are using from Viking, a unit that allows us to adjust just about everything you could possibly want for optimal traction no matter what you are looking for. One of the biggest benefits to going to this type of setup is, unlike factory suspension components where they are designed to do "all duty decently" the ability to change things like ride height, rebound, spring pressure and preload, and ride height, all allow a knowledgeable person or shop to set up THEIR specific car for their specific type of driving.
From Drag Racing, to Autocross, Rally Racing, to Road Racing, and even all purpose daily drivers doing this kind of setup allows you incredible customization. As for the viking units we used here, we are QUITE impressed with the quality and workmanship. Though assembly of the front units is required, these do NOT come in one piece, they were simple to get ready to install quickly. Installation is pretty straight forward and doable with basic hand tools. All together, great product and we can't wait to see how much difference this customer sees at the drag strip!
We hope you enjoy the video and feel free to subscribe to our channel, we're just a small independent mechanic shop outside Columbus / Dublin Ohio keeping peoples rides on the roads!

While some of this isn't exactly "entertaining" we make these videos to show the struggles this jobs REALLY entail, and how your quick easy couple hour job becomes a weekend of cursing and screaming in the garage. Also, one you get the installation done that's just the start... alignment to properly use all the adjustments are equally as important!

Did you guys leave stock springs in the back still ????? I didn’t see you remove them only install the coil overs. I ask cuz I pulled mine out when I installed my coil overs

A very VERY nasty Fbody! Weather in Ohio didn't permit us to really get any testing done with the car but hopefully once spring is here and we get a chance to take it to the track we'll see if we can make a more in depth video of it. If people like it?

Are there coilovers for the 3.4 v6 cars. I assume the only difference would be spring rate.
@LucoreAuto
@LucoreAuto 4 жыл бұрын
Your assumption is 100% correct, exactly the same pieces just would probably run a slightly less intense spring rate given the lower weight of the engine. Now, FINDING ones that have a coil spring specifically for the V6 may be a trick but many manufacturers will build your setup with whatever spring rate you specify. With that said, if you don't have control over the actual coil, you CAN make adjustments to the setup that will improve the ride quality and height. All part of the beauty of coilovers!

Is there any video you have running this monster in full power on a highway or so? I'd like to see it in action! or at least some dyno?? (Please provide the link) Thank you. A+++++

Unfortunately not, not sure if they owner has since done some video of it or not. Typically speaking are pretty particular about showing highway pulls of these creations ;) Will look and see if we can find any footage of it on a dyno or track though! Glad you like it!

All that work and your leaving the old rubber bushings in place which is the weak link. you can't get the preformance your looking for with those old rubber bushings.
@LucoreAuto

Unfortunately all we were asked to do was the coil over setup, not completely overhaul the suspension. There's certainly time and performance to be had by replacing old warn out components... that weren't great from the factory. But customers pick what we do for them so we do what we can :)
