This show has just amazing adherence to character. Lucy just discovered so much: her father is a mass murderer, responsible not only for the destruction of Shady Sands but also connected to the Great War, and he left his wife and mother of his children to burn in nuclear fire when she refused to follow his orders. Yet Lucy doesn’t scream at him, she doesn’t grow angry (like Hank does, revealing how badly he needs to be in control), she just tells him between tears to give up the code. Lucy isn’t a violent character, she hasn’t been broken by the Wasteland, at least not yet. She didn’t have to kill Hank or tell him off. She broke his heart with just a handful of words and you can tell it hurt both of them.

What bothers me is that Moldaver gives zero proofs of her words and Lucy believes her easily, as if she haven't learned that in the Wasteland people lie and kill without any hesitation. Yes, the ghoul woman has her mother's necklace, but again it could be placed on any female ghoul. And Lucy's father, being the snake he is, doesn't even try to lie his way out of this and doesn't point out that Moldaver doesn't have any evidence.

@@ComradeStrogg The idea is that Lucy remembered being with her mother and Moldaver in Shady Sands. It was the same flashback we’d seen a few times in the series, but expanded to reveal more than just the cornfield. Moldaver didn’t need to offer proof because Lucy had it all along. She either suppressed the memory or didn’t understand it due to being so young. Plus, Hank screaming when he realized he was not in control of the situation revealed him for the terrible person he is. It works, but I can see how the series doesn’t make that crystal clear.

This was the moment my brain melted. When Lucy was recalling her memory of her mother, she said how she can feel the heat of the sun even though those were just lights. Turns out, that was the sun and she was in Shady Sands, not Vault 33.

Rather than immediately responding with nukes after a nuclear attack, many are to be held in reserve and hide, only to attack decades later, after possible survivors had re-established state functions and major control settlements, only then to attack them as well.

I was horrified to find out what actually happened to her mom, honestly I was shocked, I mean, her own father, murdering his own wife and THOUSANDS of others, just because he, and those other Vault Tec assholes didn't like their idea of recolonizing and rebuilding of what they lost, all because they didn't want their precious vaults to become obsolete.

Sort of an ends justify the means situation. I am curious how she stayed alive for 200 years though...

Hank's actor did a great job here. Being able to act like a caring guy one moment, and a cold, ruthless man in another. What he did to Shady Sands was a show of power.

This scene is one of the best in the show. Lucy was not only roaming the wasteland to rescue her father, but was also looking for answers. She had no idea that those answers would be a very dark truth of her father. But the whole life she had lived and been accustomed to was a lie. Hank nuking Shady Sands out of spite was already chilling enough. But the reveal of what happened to Lucy's mother was especially dark. It's at this point where she discovers just how cold and ruthless the real world is.

Honestly... Moldaver was a psycho for keeping around Lucy's "mother" in that state. She went full on raider. She was just as wrong as Lucy's father. The only difference is there is probably more to the story than we realize with Lucy's father. Maybe he was not given a choice. We will find out in season 2.

I agree that it could not be as cut and dry as some people are trying to make it out to be, that there is more complexity to the morality of Moldaver and Hank. As for whether there will be or not, like you said we will just have to wait for season 2 to find out. I personally am willing to trust in the direction and story they are trying to explore due to how good I find most of it being so far. I'm curious what you or others think though with all the "discussions" going on, worth seeing where the story go's or not and why?

You see Moldaver holding the hand of Lucy's mother before she dies of her injuries. Moldaver didnt keep Lucy's mom as a ghoul as torture or anything malevalant. She kept her because clearly she cared about her so much that she couldnt bring her self to kill her and let her go.

Yes, nice detail there. There's also a photo from NV of President Kimball in Vault 4 by the Shady Sands memorial. (...even if they did decide to move it to the other end of California. Which is okay, rewrites happen, but I suspect it belies the whole of California is effectively back to Filly-style society and you have to just infer all the other cities fell into anarchy. Filly denizens and all the randos they meet don't act like there did used to be a country around not that long ago, kind of a shame to just pretend NCR = Shady Sands city plus refugees at Vault 4 and the Observatory......I wish they set the show in Oregon or Arizona or something)

All the other people who use cryo was shown to age between flashback, she is the only one that stay the same age. It's mention in one of the flashback that she invented an immortal drug that stop aging. She been working with the NCR for a long time as indicated in Lucy's Flashback and she haven't age at all, it would also explain why she is worship as Flame Mother. She was also fired by Vault Tech and know that they destroy the world, she is in direct opposition of them and would rather die than work with them.

@@MrDeathCellthey never explain how she survived, all they did explain was that Moldover and The Ghoul knew each other before the bombs dropped when he was known as Cooper. She invented the cold fusion device, but Vault Tec bought the company she worked for, made the technology proprietary, and then fired her. Her being fired was what made her hate Vault Tec, she herself didn't know what they were planning. It was Cooper that discovered what Vault Tec was planning to do.

Glad I watched it because I would have wasted my time knowing how utterly incompetent the writers are…This is the whole premise? Not wanting competition with the locals? What benefit does the world have when it’s completely smothered in nuclear fire? The bombs were meant to be a surprise for America, not for them to attack first! Good lord I’m glad I didn’t bother. This whole show would have pissed me off, especially with the many jangling key references…

To be fair, the NCR is more than just Shady Sands. They've got the Hub and a metric fuckload of other cities, so they may be weakened but they're probably not outright gone.

I remember a few days ago I hadn't finished the fallout show yet however I came across this video and started reading the title and had to quickly scroll up only reading half of it but it was already too late, I have now learned my lesson when a new show comes out watch all of it at once don't watch little pieces because people will get ahead of you and make videos like this, this is why I prefer when shows put out episodes once a week then everyone is on the same page

The show didn't really expand on it, but my theory is that Moldaver made a deal with a group of raiders so she could get Hank. The raiders got to do whatever they wanted as long as Lucy and Hank stayed alive.

It definetly looks like that the FlameMother / Moldaver was Undercover or hired those Raiders a 100% Like: I want the Overseer but you can have the Vault, here's the plan.... NCR soldiers would never fight like that unless they were absolutly ENRAGED of what happend to their City There was Zero Discipline in the FIghting style and Mentality of those Raiders. They were straight up barbaric. And i think it would leave a bad Taste in your Mouth that the NCR would raid a Vault. Afterall i think the NCR... well the first Settlers of Shady Sands came from a Vault in the first place. And i don' tthink the NCR is that Insidious to Raid a Vault and kill its residents.

Moldaver didn’t want to put her allies at risk so she brought raiders probably under the assumption that the people in those vaults are just like Hank so simply didn’t care. Revenge has no logic to kidnap Hank and destroy his home the same way he did to hers? Win win

No you have it backwards as House stopped ALL but 11 meaning only 11 out of 77 got through though I'm not sure why 11 is the number listed as getting through as the math seems wrong based on other information we have. Other information tells us 59 were deactivated by House while another 9 were shot down by the laser defense system which comes to 68 meaning only 9 should of got through. Guess the writers screwed up somewhere when it came to math.

Hank and Vault-Tec are confirmed to be culpable (if not pulling the trigger) in the Earth's nuclear devastation. Whatever Moldaver's faults, she at least trying to bring Lucy's mother's dream to the surface, the very dream Hank partially demolished just for not following "his" plan.

In the previous episode, Lucy believed that her dear old dad would have been ashamed for leaving Vault 4 without their fusion core. But on this next and final episode? All her beliefs and ideology about him were shattered just by seeing what Hank's destruction of Shady Sands had wrought upon her mom. She didn't have to say how disgustingly ashamed she was of her father. Her reaction to seeing ghoul mom sitting on the table was meaningful enough to just how wrong she was to consider him to be anything good.

Moldaver wasn't all the way evil. We can all agree a post nuclear apocalypse can change a person, but one thing about her is that she wanted the best for humanity....Also the tragedy of Lucy's mother really hit me in the feels when it was revealed that she was sitting at that table the entire time Lucy was there talking to Moldaver & her father. I was in shock and i felt pretty sad for Lucy's mother. What a tragic ending....I think Moldaver kept her alive because she was genuinely close to her before the Nuclear war happened. Which is why she had her at that table with her. I wonder how long she kept her alive honestly. It was so sad seeing her mom like that. Moldaver grabbed her hand before she eventually bled out which indicates she was close to Lucy's mom and that's heart breaking.

Moldaver is actually not evil it’s Lucy’s father. The NCR was actually the good guys here. Shady Sands and the NCR as a whole were exactly what the mission of the vault dwellers were supposed to be. Rebuilt America or at least a version like it being the NCR. The NCR was a successful functioning democracy where its citizens lived in peace and life was as good as it could get being in a wasteland. As for the Brotherhood there evil as well. They don’t care about restoring democracy or peace to the wasteland all they care about is harboring technology for themselves. The NCR wanted cold fusion to restore power to Los Angeles and surrounding communities and it’s like Moldaver said what will the Brotherhood to with that power. Long Live the NCR

That's misunderstanding the NCR. The whole "rebuilding America" was propaganda. NCR in the games are not seen as good guys and have imposed their laws on others. They have the same problems with lobbying so don't think it's that democratic. While having 'democracy', they are very corrupt and have similar problems as the US government before them. That's because America in Fallout were not good either. American government survived the war and in Fallout 2 they appear as a faction known as the enclave and they don't like mutants. Mutants includes people born on the surface as they have been exposed to radiation. But back to NCR, they were neither good or peaceful. Their best President is Tandi who ran the republic for 52 years. Caesar a rival of NCR points this out stating that their best years were when they had the same person in power. NCR is always expanding as they're imperialist and the more they expand, the more problems they have. In New Vegas they have stretched themselves too thin and are trying to annex the region but the problem is that the Legion are nearby and are a threat to them. NCR even commits a massacre against Great Khan's where many innocents are killed so let's not pretend they're saints. In the game one of your companions Boone was at the massacre and he has trauma over it. He has a quest as he was an NCR sniper. NCR hired mercenaries to wipe out peaceful super mutants and you convince the mercenaries to not attack in the game. Great Khan's have one guy who wants peace with NCR and if you get him to become the leader he makes peace and the NCR betray them. Factions in Fallout weren't meant to be good Vs bad. They all had their own flaws. NCR does some things that can be seen as good but they also do bad stuff. The wasteland is seen as a free place for many people and then one day a government comes in and tells them that they must obey their laws and pay taxes. Goodsprings is a town in New Vegas that will end up under NCR control if they win and some people leave because of the imposing taxes put on them. Moreno in NV mentions moving to the Mojave to get away from the NCR and now the NCR has come to his home. I wouldn't say NCR wanted to restore power but Moldaver did as she doesn't represent all of the NCR. There were NCR guys in the show who had a deal with that place harvesting organs. In NV again Helios One has options to send power. NCR want power to the strip and camp McCarran or you can send to poor regions or send to the entire region which means small energy but everyone gets some. So I wouldn't say the whole faction cares about everyone.

There’s so much left open to interpretation, Moldaver and Lucys mother may have had a significant relationship. Can’t help but to empathize with Moldaver. Would have liked to see more of her character, and the NCR. The significance of the wasteland getting access to unlimited power, I’d say it’s a huge development. Can’t wait to see if Mr. House survived.

If you're curious, Shady Sands is the first settlement that you find in the first game, a scrappy little place you help save from destruction from wildlife and it becomes this big city and the capital of a new country* later on. Just if you were wondering if there was more to the "Shady Sands" story. *The show really understated that the NCR is a whole country, not a city, but I think it treats the bombing as a collapse of all of it anyway.

In the game (New Vegas), its explained that Hoover dam is supplying power to a LOT of places. Vegas, the surrounding town, parts of the NCR and who knows what else. Having a separate power source for an (by the looks of it) almost pristine pre-war city makes a lot of sense.

Funnily enough, Vault-Tec just nuked one of the most successful factions their Vaults were able to produce. 😔 Shady Sands, being founded by residents of Vault 15 who had successfully used their GECK to start anew, and even prosper. 🌟 I mean I guess the lot of them are just lab rats to Vault-Tec's management at the end of the day, but so harsh.. 😮‍💨 Hoping to see the rest of the NCR next season! Hyped 'specially with the filming being moved to Cali - can't wait to see NCR Troopers, Rangers and even Heavy Troopers in proper uniforms! ✨

Hank may have been a monster but he was right when he said Moldaver was ruthless murderer. Most of the vault dwellers in 33 were innocent, Moldaver led a gang of barbarian raiders into their home, killed vault dwellers indiscriminately, they almost killed Rose's children all to get to Hank. If the cost of a better future for the wasteland is even one innocent life then the price is too high and she NEVER should have paid it. And I don't care if the wastelands are a nightmare where morality has lost it's value, in Moldaver's place I would have denied the world cold fusion rather then take even one innocent life. Moldaver just as extreme as the Brotherhood and just as ruthless as Cooper. I am NOT sorry she's dead and the world will be better off without her.

This is of little surprise to me in all honesty. Throughout the entire franchise in the Video Game verse, Vault-Tec had been utilizing the Vaults for their own personal interests. Each Vault had a different experiment taking place and the Overseers were generally there to ensure these experiments went undisturbed. The worst one I think being Vault 12. Vault-Tec designed that one so the door didn't close intentionally to see what radiation does to the inhabitants inside. It seems like Henry is the bad guy here, and to some degree he is--like all the other Overseers were. They have a responsibility to uphold and their own share of secrets to keep. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Season 2. I'm thinking that Frank Horrigan makes a return from FO2, and maybe Farmer (Mysterious stranger) comes in to aid Lucy and the gang. Plus, the Enclave may have a major role to play.

Some of those Overseers rebelled against Vault Tec once they realized what was going on. One of more well known ones is Vault 81. Vault Tec were going to make a miracle cure out of unwilling test subjects and the Overseer found it very unethical that the scientists Vault Tec sent found themselves trapped with the mole rats. They were able to produce the miracle cure but CURIE was the only one able to deliver it and a kid needed after contracting rabies from a mole rat bite.
