This video is intended as a Toyota Supra buyer's guide. I go point-by-point through common, but little-known, issues about the Supra. It's been two years since we first started our Supra journey and we still enjoy it immensely.

Nice, I just bought last weekend a 98 red twin turbo supra. I had to drive 400 miles to get it. The car has 58 thousand original miles, new timing belt, tires ect. I drove the car an entire day before I paid the man and drove it back to Tennessee without one problem. Everytime I stopped for gas people flocked to my car.lol...2 people offered to but on the spot. This is a car I have wanted since I was a teen.

P I W O _ I wouldn’t say that. When I was your age I felt the same way. Your going to get the car you love later on in life. It takes time but completely doable. Your going to do it.

Awesome video! Definitely using this when im looking to buy my supra(still a bit to go) :/ learned a lot of helpful hints and tips that I didnt know about the Supras. Especially the part about the flux capacitor and having it affect the space time continuum. 😂😂😂 super helpful funny and easy to watch. Thanks!

Hey fiend! nice video again. I just bought a supra for myself this weekend. I did not had enough money for a TT but I bougth a 98 auto NA with 68k miles. I am realy happy with how the car driver originaly! it make a great sound and the trans is better than expected!

Other common issues are targa top weather seal leaks, and the valve cover gasket goes pretty quick

Licence plates aren’t a problem in the UK, we just have major rust instead.

Luke, rust is no fun. When I am up north I am always washing my car to rinse off all the stuff on the road due to snow. Thanks for watching the video by the way :)

Have you had issues with the traction control light and air bag lights stying on. I had a Toyota master mechanic check the car, and no codes were evident. He thinks that the problem may be a gauge cluster that has gone bad.

@@DriversTherapy I got lucky I did not get a bad oil pan. One gave me false advertising his supra started to leak oil. Very Happy with this one. I was riding around town blasting Eurobeat all night. XD

So I just bought a supra gte it’s a 1996 but it is a series two meaning it has those headlights and the signal lights on the bumper and not the fender so I don’t think it’s only 97 and 98 that come with them

I’ve always dreamed of owning a 98 tt us version and also a hardtop but from here it looks like it costs about almost 2 billion. And there’s only 3 in sl, I’m dying to own one. Guess it will only be a dream 😣💔

@@DriversTherapy I dont know actually I need to check it but I think its the expansion valve or the condenser because its the most common issue on the supra, I dont want to go to the mechanic shop becuase it will charge me a lot, I want to do it diy but there are no youtube videos explaining step by step

It sounds like you might have to take into a shop. A/C system are more complicated than it seems. They have machines that check the integrity of the system and also find leaks. When working on A/C systems, you usually have to recharge the system with the proper freon and a machine makes it easier and avoids issues.

Dillon Neimiller try search tempest. You can search all over the U.S. easily. It used Craigslist to search and puts it one page so can easily look at it. Also, sign up on Supra Forums and join the Supra FB pages. Those places have Supras for sale often. Thank you for watching the video and I invite you subscribe man to support the channel.

3:04 - My front passenger side is currently stripped out and i cant undo the bolt. Annoying. Gonna try to grt the nerve to drill it out and replace it. 3:49 - had mine for 2 weeks and i caught a piece in my mouth. I wanted to vomit. 4:39 - I reccomend the '94 Euro lights. Theyre glass and never oxydize like the lexan ones do. 9:18 - Rip out the twins and get a single turbo kit. So much easier and less clitter and vacuum lines. Aftermarket is huge for this car, and theres so many options for upgrades.

What’s a good price for a 1998 turbo Supra?

That is one of those questions that can have so many answers. A 1998 model is the last U.S. market model available so that being the last model, it has all the desired updates like headlights, taillights, and VVTI to name a few. Also, these tend to have fewer miles since they are a later model which is logical. A 6-speed 98’ Supra with low miles can go anywhere from 55K to 100K depending on the right factors. Miles, stock form, and history play a part. I recommend going on Bringatrailer and searching the complete auctions for Supras in the last year to get a good market analysis. So this almighty 2JZ-GTE engine built by the Toyota GODS and they put in a timing BELT instead of a CHAIN ... I have a nissan 240sx which is a NON TURBO from the factory and it has a cast iron closed deck block, piston oil squirters and it came with a timing CHAIN .... I don't understand why you would build such a beast of a motor and use a belt vs a chain. Any real engine builder would tell you the chain is far superior over a belt ..

Ya I don't know. Good observation. On the good side, the 2JZ is not an interference motor like many timing belt setup. So if the belt snaps, it sucks but you still have an engine.

What an ignorant comment. Chains stretch, belts don't. I've had a lot of experience with both, and timing chains have done nothing but cause me problems and cost me hundreds of dollars. Toyota know what they're doing, you don't.
