@VitchAndVorty I agree! To take away the Japanese language from a Japanese production is to take away a giant part of the culture that makes it what it is. No matter how good the English voice actor may be, they will never compare to the original because our language can't capture all of those linguistic nuances. I get that some people have a hard time with following subtitles, but they are missing out on a lot of the humor and emotion anime brings to its audience.

@@shuujitoakira9519on that note: if you ever do a rewatch, do it with the "kaizoku fansubs"-sub. By being lucky i randomly picked a streaming service that used that sub. It's only available up to ep 300 or so, but the love and explanations they put into that is unrivaled.

In my opinion it's a lot more about freedom than it is about joy. Being free makes him joyful and makes other joyful. He's so free that he's free from common sense and physics. He is freedom personified way more than he is JOY

its soooo fucking cool. not only did oda completly break away from the usual habit of anime heroes tapping into a new power in a moment of desperate anger he did so in such an absolutlely bloodpumpinly cool way and that soundtrack is awsome. it sound like a mix of war drums and cartoon slapstick music which is exactly what oda must have been going for

Oda always said he gave Luffy rubber powers becasue no matter what he wanted his fights to be funny and the absolute madman found a way to do it.

The idea is good, but the studio failed miserably in filming the scenes in a good way... The way of drawing is too cartoonish, and in some shots it was difficult to distinguish what was going on. I think that if One Piece had been owned by a superior studio, this transformation would have been as well-received by viewers as it is now.

@@-Offstar The anime is different from the manga. I think everyone agrees that there was no need for Kaido's eyes to go out when Luffy was hitting him... It could have been better than it was. We will see true creativity after Wit Studio obtains the rights to produce One Piece from the beginning

I think the fruit was the one who didn't want to let go of Luffy. Nika has its own will. Luffy was dead at that moment, and the fruit revived him somehow.

Could it be that being near to dying is a requirment for the Nika-Fruit to actually awaken? Because if Nika is considered a "Freedom-Warrior" it could kinda fit as dying frees you from your physical existence and which is also why the Nika-Fruit wasn´t awaken for a long time because either it wasn´t eaten by anyone or each holder died instantly unlike Luffy who was about to die.

I would think it is due to any other person who has eaten the fruit did not reach the skill level to awaken and also the mindset of the person who ate the fruit wasn't fit to awaken the fruit either and passed before it could be awakened. Basically it needs a lot of requirements to for the person to awaken.

Another fact to the considered is, as kaido said *AWAKENING IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE PERSONS PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES CATCH UP TO THE POWERS OF DEVIL FRUITS* Which means that if Luffy would have died anytime before wano the fruit would never awaken also that could possibly be the reason why the fruit didn't awaken for 800 years, it might have found some wielders but they weren't strong enough to awaken it cause it makes no sense if someone says that the df just went missing for almost a century and even the gorosei themselves said that *IT IS AS IF THE FRUIT IS RUNNING AWAY FROM US* which clearly means that they have tried to get hold the fruit several times but failed to do so.
