I agree, that the problem was with the rest of the hive, not accepting Pharynx(?) opinion. Thats why in the end, the hive said "weve been wrong, we DO need to protect ourselves". Pharynx didnt change his form, just cause he adapted to their way, it was more the others accepting him back in, and he felt part of it again. He already loved the hive, but now the others love him back. He did tone down his agression, but the major point was the integration of his way of thinking. Thats why he also has a leader-changeling design now, with antlers and stuff. Thorax was the first Lovebug changeling, and the other changelings adapted to his design, cause he was their new and sole rolemodel. This caused them to become good, but also weak. If pharynx had just converted the same way (by following thorax example) he would have become a regular lovebug. But he didnt just follow, he (re)introduced his warrior spirit to the lovebugs, and has become a second leader-type lovebug/rolemodel, meaning in the future, changelings will be influenced by both of them, so we might see more darker warrior-lovebugs. Like when luna returned. Originially, there were only white royal guards, but during the wedding, suddenly there are both black and white guards subserving their white demigod. And as of season 4 there is also a brown one for some reason.... Long story short: Pharynx transformation was more like installing a software update for the hive, cause the first release always has bugs...

when I first watched this episode the scene that interested me was when Pharynx was attacking the vines, particularly when he explained why he was attacking them. our original understanding of changelings was that they were mindlessly aggressive and vicious and hated anything benevolent or nice. but Pharynx was attacking them because he saw them as a hazard and was concerned for the others' safety. it was the first time we see the thoughts of a 'dark changeling'. and we see a defender, not an attacker like we would expect.

Everyone was at fault in this episode for something, which was cool. Thorax enabled the drones to forget about their troubles by building a hippie paradise that didn't address defense, the changelings took advantage of that, Pharynx had a great idea but terrible delivery, and Starlight and Trixie failed to notice the real problem till after they screwed up. In the end Pharynx's character is here to balance out Thorax's love with strength. Thorax isn't qualified to lead as a solo monarch, he has a big heart and loves to unite his subjects, but doesn't have any sense for the military side of things. He's the exact opposite of Chrysalis. Pharynx and Thorax leading together balances things to a happy medium.

For me pharynx's struggle to adjust to a peaceful lifestyle roughly parallels the struggle returning veterans have when returning to civilian life and finding where they fit in. It took me about 3 months to adjust after I left the navy, and I relied heavily on family to make that adjustment

A couple things: firstly, pharynx was being a dick. Imagine having a roommate who kicked holes in the walls, dyed your clothes black, changed all your posters, and taught kids to scream and whine. I dunno about you, but I'd tell him to either cut that shit out or move out. I mean, hopefully I'd have the presence of mind to dig deeper and ask what his real problem is, but he's still being an asshole. I'm also not sure what your hangup with pharynx's transformation was. You seem to get that he himself never changes, and that it was purely physical. Is it as simple as not realizing _why_ he changed? Cause it wasn't forced into him or anything. It's just changeling biology. From the season 6 finale, we know that written a changeling gives love unconditionally, they evolve. Prior to the finale, no changeling had ever done that. They always took love. Even thorax did that in the crystal empire. He never went hungry, but he still had to feed. Here, pharynx changed after he admitted to loving the hive. That declaration of _unconditional_ love made it biologically impossible for him to stay in his previous form. It'd be like if you didn't go through puberty until you were emotionally mature enough to handle it. Wouldn't that be nice.

Nice. I'm not the only one fascinated by the biology and life cycles of fantasy creatures. As such, did you get the impression that Chrysalis might have been experimenting with the brood of Pharynx and Thorax? After all, he has a design that is distinctly different from other changelings (both prior and following maturation/ metamorphosis). Before Pharynx, we had only seen two types of pre-metamorphosis changelings in canon: the queen and the drone. The drone's function seems to have been to venture out of the hive in search of love, soak it up when found and then bringing it back to the hive for the queen and young drones. It would seem that under Chrysalis the drones also constantly trained to patrol and defend the hive. Now, Pharynx seems to have been Chrysalis' attempt at making defender/ warrior type changeling whose function is to stay at the hive at all times to defend it. It could also be that while making the warrior type, Chrysalis unintentionally also made the king type of changeling: Thorax. The king type having the function of introducing a whole new paradigm of magical biology into the mix with the metamorphosis.

I think this was the discovery of another aspect of the Changeling hierarchy. While Thorax was born with a physiological lack of aggression that would later lead him to becoming the king of the new peaceful Changelings, Pharynx represented a heightened sense of aggression that led to his being head of patrol prior to redemption. And this point is confirmed when he does change at the end, into a darker reformed changeling. He is sort of the Princess Luna to Thorax's Celestia, each of them equipped with a temperament that coincides with their role. Pharynx will likely become the head of the reformed Changelings' soldier caste. If you think the changeling race is kinda blehhh right now, consider that the entire hive converted into.. well, a pacifist social caste. But this episode demonstrated their continued need for defense. When an insect molts its exoskeleton, what emerges is soft and delicate, hiding away from danger, until over time it develops a harder chitin outer shell and can defend itself. And that is where Pharynx fits in. The changelings reformed and shed their hard exoskeleton, becoming a soft marshmallow of a species. But Pharynx will bring them back to be a formidable nation within Equestria. Thorax will lead and guide them through their diplomatic developments, but as his brother and general of the Changeling army, Pharynx will fill out what has been missing in their society since the end of Season 6. But at no point could Pharynx have stayed in the changeling original form. That form depended on feeding on love, which can be assumed to be absolutely forbidden within Changeling society now. How Pharynx and the other rogues lasted as long as they did, one can only speculate, but that's likely why Pharynx was as cranky as he was. And his acting out was physically damaging their home, indoctrinating the young, creating a hostile environment that other changelings did not want to live in. Not just a difference in views, but a reminder of what they used to be. Imagine having a large group of friends, and all of you used to use drugs, until one day you all, together, kicked the habit... except for one. Imagine how hard it would be for your whole group of friends to hang out while one of them among you openly used those drugs the rest of you are trying to put behind you. When Starlight came to the conclusion that he needed to be kicked out, it wasn't simply "Oh he thinks differently, he needs to go", she was simply recognizing that the rest of the changeling hive seemed to be on the verge of mutiny. She figured if she didn't suggest it to Thorax, they'd turn on him. Without his guidance, the hive would likely descend into chaos. And to be fair, it wasn't as if the others hadn't given him the opportunity to communicate his feelings. They invited him to share what was bothering him in the Feelings Forum, and he shut them down, using his platform instead to try to make them feel bad about THEIR views. So I'd say that both were in the wrong, but in the end, they found a way to appreciate one another. Pharynx discovered that he could share his love of the hive with the others, and they found something valuable in what he brought to the table without him having to give up what was important to him. Under the surface, he just wants the hive to be strong, and defensible, and they learned that he was right, that they needed a 'tougher skin'. I do think that we will see more changelings sporting a darker hue, and perhaps a tougher personality, signifying their belonging to Pharynx' soldier caste, and both groups co-existing peacefully as they demonstrate that their differences actually complement each other. Thank you for reading to the bottom of this comment! But our princess is in another castle!

Klokkwork I agree with all of this Both sides had a point and were doing something wrong. Most of the Changelings were complete pacifists who crumbled in the face of a threat and were pretty helpless, but they were right to be sick of Pharynx when he had been constantly causing problems and acting hostile to everyone. Pharynx had a valid point on them being too pacifistic and not making sure they could defend their newfound peace, but he was very rude and overly harsh in trying to make the others do what he wanted instead of explaining the problem in a calm and respectful way. Pharynx had his heart in the right place but felt he needed to force the others to toughen up in a tough love sort of way instead of talking things out, and the rest of the hive wanted everything to be peaceful and for Pharynx to stop being a jerk but were neglecting the need to defend themselves from potential threats.

I completely agree. The episode nvr claims that either side is right. They were both very much in the wrong. Pharynx didn’t want the hive to be helpless. It’s difficult for an entire nation to purely pacifistic. Just because u dont like conflict, doesn’t mean others will see it the same way. Ya, war is bad but u hav to b able to fight back against threats. The was right to b mad at Pharynx. Having ur own opinion about this doesn’t giv u the right to b a jerk. He was trying to force the other Changelings to share his views, but they were wrong for not listening to y he had those views. This actually touches back to Celestial Advice. The Changelings needed to learn compromise. And they did learn it in the end, Pharynx accepts their kinder nature and the hive accepts that they needed to defend themselves

Pharanx doesn't change till he said he loved the hive. And it shows his personality hasn't been changed when he teases Thorax at the end. And meeting the group halfway and not being a total tool like he was is a great lesson.

A couple notes keyed off of what you were saying, I think it's important to note that the changelings did accept Thorax just as he was in the end. They expressed their acceptance and their realization of the value of someone with a different point of view on things like him as well as the validity of his particular viewpoint, before he changed. In fact their acceptance was the final thing that prompted him to truly embrace their love and change forms. As for the form change itself, you kinda said this but it doesn't represent him shifting his viewpoint on things from what it was. As I understand it it represents nothing more than going from a creature that has to basically use love as a tool, feeding off of it to survive yet still never being satisfied, to a creature that is sustained by the love they accept from those around them. It represents a positive shift in his relations to others without changing any other aspect of him. I can understand wishing their was still a holey changeling around but I personally love his new design and I'm glad we don't have changelings sitting around starving still. XD But hey, we still have Chrysalis. XD

You talked over the part where he said "I love the hive". He felt loved and not pressured anymore, so he changed. The problem was that Thorax was too soft, and turned changelings into hippie snowflakes. His brother on the other hand was still aggressive warrior type. And since changelings understood what a bunch of assholes they were they will be a bit tougher. He understands that now they listen to him more, building self-defence forces he doesn't need to be the way he was anymore, calmed his tits, and transformed.

Luffyiscool Rainbow Dash has friends that would defend her if it came to that. Pharynx almost actively pushes others away including the one person who tries to defend him. Even Thorax is worn down by his behavior. I think your view of the episode would resonate more if there was a splinter group of old changelings rather than the one.

You-Know-Who? Yeah makes sense that Voldemort hates craft time. Soup Changeling is my favorite changeling as well, love him lol. Some great lines in this episode, and I love that Starlight's speech didn't work. More of that realistic view point that this season seems to be going with. Oh sure they came later, but still nice to see them hesitate. I was rather split on Starlight, Trixie and Thorax' opinion and Pharynx opinion as well, I could see some truth in both sides. Also when Pharynx was making Thorax hit himself I think that was his way to show him that he needed to take charge and defend himself, the tough love approach so to speak. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

I hope we see the changelings more. Not necessarily because of "them" but because Thorax has one of my favourite arcs going on now. His struggle with being a worthwhile leader despite being a really timid dork naturally. And I hope we see more of his progression. Especially now that he has Pharynx to hopefully be a slightly firmer presence backing him up.

I agree with the identity issue however you have to remember that Thorax's whole shtick has been to reform the hive. It wasn't that his brother thought differently, it was how he was showing it. Yes he wasn't a threat but he WAS being disruptive on multiple occasions, (like dumping black paint on the changeling, destroying the vines and we can only guess how much other crap he did). The other issue was that Pharnyx was not accepting how the hive had changed and was just stuck in the past of how it used to be. As he was, I feel like eventually he would have become a threat because he would have needed to feed on love at some point. Remember that the changelings were always starving when in that previous form, so it was probably very hard on him to suppress that urge. His personality is still the same after his change, he is just now more accepting than he was. Because as much as you say the changelings weren't accepting him (aside from his brother), he wasn't really accepting them either. In a sense this was a compromise, he keeps his personality but changes his form and feeding style. The changelings in my opinion have become some of my favorite characters if only because they are still so new to feeling love and friendship that the hippy trend kinda fits them pretty well. We might get more development for them in the future.

Abit late but one of the reasons they wanted Pharanx to change is because Black Changlings need to feed on love. As a warrior I doubt he'd except the other Changlings letting him feed on theirs without seeing himself as "weak". He also considered transforming into a coloured Changling would make him weaker and less able to defend the hive. All he really needed was to see the strength of the hive. Once he saw that, his reservations about transforming vanished and he transforms. His new form even bigger and stronger than ever.

Before Chrysalis came along? According to the comics, I think Chrysalis was literally the first changeling. Also I don't think his ideas were the problems they had with him. I think him doing things like wrecking the hard work they did decorating and physically attacking other changelings with paint was the problem. Seriously, getting a large amount of paint in your eyes HURTS. Dumping a can of paint on someone's head is not okay.

Free speech means you wont get arrested saying what you want. It doesnt guarantee a platform to spout whatever nonsense you want without any consequences. If people dont like what you have to say, then they have the right to say so. As far as someone being fired for making a racist joke, one time no they shouldn't be fired, but if they are deliberate doing to make people uncomfortable, or targeting a specific person, then that makes the employer look bad and they have every right to not let that person work there anymore. I think it's a well crafted episode. I also believe Pharynx changing was NEEDED for the episode to work. Remember that the Metamorphosis is a biological reaction to accepting Love. The Changlings were a repressed society under Chrysalis. They were soldiers only, fighting for Chrysalis and her power-hungry goals. She did not allow them to have individual thought. They even *forgot* that biologically they change when accepting love. Under Thorax's rule, they now have the freedom to express feeling. This led to an awakening in the Arts where emotion can be explored. For the Changlings this is ESPECIALLY important due to the trauma they've endured under Chrysalis. Bottling up trauma can be psychologically damaging, and art is therapeutic. Art allows you to safely explore the emotions that trouble you. The hive fully embraced this new artsy society because it's *healing* them. Pharynx is different though. He lived through the same repression, but not everyone experiences trauma the same way. Pharynx was obviously less traumatized by Chrysalis' society. He was a strong warrior, which he embraced willingly while many subconsciously did not. Pharynx was in his element under Chrysalis' rule. He enjoys protecting, fighting for the Hive, and being assertive for the sake of others. For Pharynx there was *less* trauma as a mindless soldier for Chrysalis, and *more* trauma in the society he thrived in suddenly rejecting him. The issue is that the Hive and Pharynx aren't talking to each other constructively. The Hive does not want any resemblance to the society that repressed them for so long. Pharynx wants to return to a familiar role in a new but different society. Instead of talking to each other and coming to a compromise, they BOTH react negatively. Their traumas are dictating their actions. The Hive does not want to be forced into an aggressive position ever again. Since this is what Pharynx is advocating then their reaction is to reject him. Pharynx does not want to loose the role he enjoys. Since the Hive is embracing a lifestyle that goes against what he sees as logical, he ends up being a dick and expressing how the "good old days" were better than this new society. This is what lead to the awful relationship between them. The Hive was TRAUMATIZED by Chrysalis ... so Pharynx downplaying the new society they find healing is insulting. Likewise, being a Warrior and Protector is who Pharynx is, so the Hive belittling that role and making snide comments is equally insulting. It is the climax of the story that shows the true *beauty* of Pharynx changing to his new form: The society admits that they were wrong. The Hive was scared of returning to the aggressive society that traumatized them. However, because they would not listen to Pharynx and his sage advice, it put them *all* at risk. They tell Pharynx that they *do* need his protection. This allows Pharynx to return to his beloved role: The Warrior/Protector. The Hive now accepts him for who he is, and because of this acceptance Pharynx suddenly remembers *WHY* he loves being the Warrior/Protector ...... because he LOVES THE HIVE. And because he remembers this KEY fact about who he always been, it allows him to change: A natural reaction for a Changling who accepts love. P.S. And why wouldn't he love the Hive? The Hive was doing everything they could to reject becoming an aggressive society again. But in the end, to save Pharynx they faced what they feared most and became an aggressive swarm. This shows Pharynx that they still have within them what he always admired.

with the Changelings, I feel divided. On the one hand I get the insect motif of them metamorphosing into more extravagant forms. But, on the other hand, I feel like giving them 'good-looking' new forms spits on the whole concept of liking someone for their beliefs rather than their looks as was pre-established with pre-morph Thorax. Pharynx changing at the end annoyed me a fair bit. Yeah, he's the same personality-wise, but I still feel that keeping him in 'withered' morph would have sent just as much of a message on acceptance across?

I think both sides in this situation were wrong. Thought you let Pharynx a bit too much off the hook. Differing opinions and styles of behaviour are alright, as was established in the end, but Pharynx was just being kind of a dick. Destroying other people's hard work on improving the hive, doing stupidly dangerous stuff like putting thorns in hallways, and generally jeopardizing Thorax' work on reforming the hive, and possibly sending them back to their old ways. When all he really needed to do was just maybe have a calm talk with people instead of acting overly aggressive. So yeah, I think both sides had their hearts in the right place but went about things the wrong way. I also think it would have been a bigger cop out to not have Pharynx change in the end. The Changelings "evolve" when sharing their inner love, which Pharynx did at the end, so he needed to turn. I'm not the biggest fan of the new Changeling designs either, but it would be even worse if they backed out of already established lore just for the sake of pleasing the fans. But yeah, I'm not super interested in the Changelings at this point either. Am hoping this will be the last of them for the rest of the season. This episode had some funny bits and was nice seeing Starlight and Trixie again (they made this episode), but other than that, I just have no interest in the episode, really. It's just one of those "not good, not bad" episodes. Also, glad to hear someone finally say the pacing and overall feel of "The Times They Are A Changeling" was majorly off. I always thought it was awful, too. Didn't even feel like MLP to me. I have seen it again since then and don't think it's quite that bad, and admittedly I do enjoy the song on its own, but for a while I did consider it the worst episode of the series. I still might.

Kallo Skull Nothing beats the awful pacing of Daring Don't. That episode was awkward and looped back on itself like the guy at prom that keeps stepping on his dates toes. The "twist" was obvious, painfully so. It doesn't help that I'm not a Rainbow fan, but Ponk is my personal favourite and it wasn't enough to salvage it. If it weren't for Ponka and the adorable sphinx it would fall it my all time lows of the show. I don't think being a Rainbow fan would have helped a awful lot either, as the hospitalized RD episode stands on a fairly high pedestal for me. So she wasn't the only reason I despised it.
@KalloSkull
@KalloSkull 6 жыл бұрын
You mean "Daring Done?", right? I don't think having the obvious "twist" did any damage to that episode, because clearly it wasn't supposed to be a twist at all. It was meant to be obvious, so you can't really take anything away from the episode based on that. I do agree it's one of the weaker episode the show has produced for other reasons though, but I don't think it was THAT bad. It was still kind of enjoyable. I'd rate it slightly above "Princess Spike". Both of them felt like pretty meh MLP episodes. But "The Times They Are A Changeling" is the only episode of FiM ever where I thought "This is actually not bad by MLP standards, but by cartoon standards in general".
@LuxuriaU
@LuxuriaU 6 жыл бұрын
Kallo Skull Yeah, I wrote that on my phone, and my phone thinks it knows what I want to say. Also, I guess I worded it wrong. It wasn't that the twist was obvious for is, it's that it wasn't for them. Daring Do can't figure who the guy that she's been thwarting this whole time is just because of a very revealing hood? Hell, I feel like even Rainbow should be able to figure it out. That's what really grinded my gears. It IS a children's cartoon, but they've been clever enough to the point that isn't even an accuse. I dunno, maybe my Rainbow dislike is really driving me down a more cynical view than what's necessary.

So..... he actively scares away others, destroys the place they live in, puts hazards to everyone else all over the place, and actively berates everyone..... and you're completely OK with him continuing to do that, because it's his 'opinion'? To me, that kind of behaviour doesn't scream 'different opinion', it screams 'complete asshole'. It's honestly no wonder the rest are sick and tired of him. While it's obvious through the small interactions that he still loves the hive and would protect it, he just doesn't show it to the rest. Actions speak louder then words, and he's just been a nuisance to everyone else without trying to justify it by anything other then 'the old days were better'. In a way, it's actually a little ironic. He was a changeling who refused to change with the times.

...I think you might be looking a little too deeply into this episode; I didn't really get any "freedom of speech" vibes here, and that's all I'm saying on the matter. As for the episode itself, I honestly really enjoyed this one. I thought it was a case of "both sides are right, and both sides are wrong"; the Changelings had a right to be upset with Pharynx's actions (like dumping black paint on one of them), but they were in the wrong for not being willing to listen to him and simply wanting him banished. Meanwhile, Pharynx was right in his belief that the Changelings had become somewhat soft to the point that they couldn't really defend themselves anymore, but he went about expressing this in the wrong manner and only made things harder for Thorax. I really liked this because it would've been so easy to just have one side be completely right and the other completely wrong, but the show took the high ground in the end. I also really liked Pharynx as a character; he ended up being a lot more complex than I might've imagined at first, and I really liked both his initial and reformed designs. Trixie was also a lot of fun here, and Thorax showed that he took Ember's lessons to heart. I'd say the only weak-link here was Starlight; I felt like she gave up on Pharynx a little too fast, and her plan nearly endangered an entire kingdom; say what you want about previous plans of hers, but at least they never ran the risk of endangering people. Not to mention, she seemed to try and avoid Thorax's confrontation with her at the end. At least her speech to the Changelings was pretty epic. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode, and I'm interested to see what happens with Pharynx and whether or not he forms a Changeling Royal Guard. By the way, since you brought it up, "The Times They Are a Changeling" is my second favorite episode of Season 6, and one of my favorite episodes of the show. Just saying.

This ... was a weird episode in terms of messaging. I get that he was being a bit of a destructive prick, but he wasn't entirely wrong on how the new hive really does seem to lack in any sense of pragmatism; especially in regards to self-defense. Pyanynx had a point ... they were all just sitting around complaining about a problem rather than trying to actively solve it. Also ... talk about a passive-aggressive society. I give Pharynx some credit, at least he told others to their faces what he disliked about them ... they really were just bitching about him behind his back. While his ideology didn't really seem to change by the end it does sort of push the narrative of "group think", "tribalism", "exiling those that don't think the same as you", and "changing yourself just to fit in." People really do need to understand that shutting down and argument is not the same as winning one; and attacking the individual instead of debating their ideas is not going to promote the change in them your looking for ... it will only make them dig in their heels and hold on tighter. Debate, discourse, and being able to calmly back up your philosophies.takes confidence and genuine hard work and effort to achieve ... and changing someone else's mind (or even just opening them up to the possibility of new perspectives) even more so.

I understand your point, though he was a hindrance. It wasn't that he thought differently. He was trying to put the old ways back into commission. He was damaging property and physically assaulting people. (the paint legally counts as assault) They weren't against him because of how he thought, but how his beliefs caused him to act. I'm an atheist in a Christian family, I don't care how they think or their beliefs. What I dislike is their beliefs causing them to harass homosexuals or be down right sexist. They follow that forsaken book so thoroughly I'm afraid they might start stoning people in the town square. So, it isn't their beliefs that are the problem, it's the subsequent actions it causes from them. Because like this guy, they thought their beliefs justified their self righteous justice.

Look, I get that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. And that this kind of strikes a nerve with you because you're sick of seeing similar things in real life. But can you honestly say that if someone in a community started dumping paint on people, destroying public property, teaching inappropriate behavior to children, threatening anyone who gets close by hissing at them, and going to group therapy sessions that they have no intention of actually paying attention to and screaming at everyone... That they wouldn't get arrested for destruction of public peace, or forced to leave if they wouldn't stop? That it wouldn't be hurting people? Sure, he's allowed to disagree with what they're saying however he likes. But he's not allowed to terrorize them because they have a different opinion than him, right? The changelings were being dicks, but so was he. And no, I didn't watch the end thoughts after the reaction, because honestly I'm just tired of both sides of it. I already don't judge people for their opinions unless it's actively disrupting the lives of others, and it's really hard to offend me, even if someone is being hurtful. I just think maybe you're reading too much into it, because you've been experiencing a lot of things that on the surface are similar. ( and I'm guessing most of them are online, so they're not disrupting the lives of others like in this case ) Sorry if I'm being inconsiderate or disrespectful in any way, but it did take away slightly from My overall enjoyment of the reaction, so I thought I'd go ahead and point it out.

Wow all your views on twitter seem antithetical to the very views this show was founded on. For example the ridiculous 4chan esk slamming of "identity politics" when you watch a show entirely rooted in it. MLP was intentionally created with a feminist message by an outspoken feminist. Each character representing a different way of being a girl. The show itself is a direct response to the way society views girls and the way it marketed to them. Lauren Faust wanted young girls to see they are not limited in the way society and theses types of shows tend to tell them they are. She wanted to shows this diversity to adults as well. Also if you dislike identity polotics you should hence forth denounce referring to yourself as a gamer or brony, because like it or not that is a form of identity politics. Bronies in particular have been a form of identity politics that has encouraged social change. The issues you tend focus on are also antithetical to what the show preaches. Would Twilight Sparkle really be so cruel as to support throwing children out of her country because of their parents' legal status? Would princess Celestia really be talking about how the earth ponies are bring crime and drugs to Canterlot? would Luna be complaining about being called a bigot for constantly talking about preserving the unicorn race? Does Equestria seem like a place were ethno nationalism is a thing? Would Princess Cadence refuse to bake a cake for a gay couple? Would Fluttershy support building a wall on the equestrian border to keep the Grifffons out? Just thinking about any of the ponies supporting the things your tweeting about is hilarious. Can you imagine any of them supporting gamergate? Yes I can really imagine Rainbow Dash working on the Sarkeesian Effect with Davis "all women are whores" Aurini. Or Twilight writing the article "Sex bots Why Mares should panic" with Milo Yiannopoulos. Or how about Rarity sharing the "5 guys burgers and fries" meme? Hell do you think any of our favorite ponies would throw out racial slurs casually when they get angry? Of course they wouldn't do any of this because they are likable characters. They don't care if your a unicorn, griffon, dragon, breezy, or whatever, and when they do the lesson tends to focus on how that's wrong. They don't care if your a legal citizen of Equestria. And whilst the bigotry against homosexuals in this country wont allow the show to tackle this issue. I'm certain they don't care if your gay either. Also considering bigotry against homosexuality is such that we shy away from from showing it to children perhaps your boogie men "sjws" have a damn good point. I think a particular "sjw" that created the show would agree.

For me, there's a difference between simple identity and "using" that identity to shut out any and all people who are different. I support the free expression of all ideas, and the fact that a lot less conflict in the world would happen if everyone could stop yelling and just get to the root of problems. If you disagree with that philosphy then more power to ya, but I love this show because I'm a positive guy and the messages warm my heart. All of this condescension is exactly what I was talking about. You made a hell of a lot of leaps in assumptions about my specific beliefs. But hey, that's your perspective and I respect it.

You are going to have an extremely hard to proving there is no bigotry in against homosexuals in America considering the current presidential administration is trying to argue its okay to fire people for being gay. Also the vice president supports conversion therapy. Not to mention the various "religious freedom" bills and arguments that keep being pushed to allow discrimination against homosexual people. The fact we don't find it appropriate for children. that's just a few examples. The fact that you are gay is not going to make it any easier to argue against those facts.
@KyleThePale
@KyleThePale 6 жыл бұрын
The US is probably the most pro-gay country there is other than Canada. In the majority of African and Middle Eastern countries, it's illegal to even be gay. If you're suspected of it, you could very well wind up dead or worse. The current administration is not arguing that, Jeff Sessions literally stated the truth. Title IX does not cover gay people. Even so, Title IX is crummy enough as is and has a shit ton of flaws. We need a major replacement for it, as it's not only outdated but flawed since it's existence. The VP, has no power. He can't do shit unless he becomes President. Even Trump disagrees with that buffoon quite often, as seen on the campaign trail. The religious freedom bills just reinforce the separation of church and state. How do they affect me negatively? If you're referring to the whole "bake the cake" stuff, I support it! I would in no way be comfortable with forcing someone who hates my existence to serve me. Why would anyone? That's also wrong! There are actually quite a few kids shows out now (Steven Universe and Loud House to name just two) that have homosexual couples. Whether obvious or subtle. And yes, it does make it easier. As I know what affects me and what doesn't.
@AnaduKune
@AnaduKune 6 жыл бұрын
Nice fallacy or relative privation there. Even if we assume that we are most pro gay country that doesn't mean bigotry still doesn't pervade it. If anything it speaks to how dire a state the world is in that we are number one. Jeff Sessions and the administration are not arguing for a replacement though are they? They are just siding with the bigots. He is just using this argument to act against homosexual people. Jeff sessions and the administration obviously doesn't care. The fact that by your very own admission we don't have good good protections for these people reinforces my original point. This country still has a big problem with bigotry against homosexuality. Fact is we have Pence in a very prominent position with a huge platform to push his bigoted views. The very fact that supporting the psychological torture of homosexuals wasn't enough to dissuade Trump from choosing him speaks volumes as to his lack of moral fortitude in this area. The fact that anyone still supports this vile policy and that we are still fighting it is a testament that we still have a lot of problems in this area. These "religious" freedom bills would allow someone to refuse service to gay people for being gay the the grounds of their religious beliefs. That should scare the shit out of anyone gay or not. To avoid the bigotry accusation they made it purposefully vague so it's far beyond just a gay issue which makes it even worse. Again it highlights a big problems a bigotry in this country. If there wasn't an issue we wouldn't have shit stains that don't want to serve gay people in the country. We are making progress with lgbt representation in cartoons for kids but its still controversial. Tell me why you think mlp hasn't had one yet? Is it really because the creative team doesn't want it? The fact we have to make progress again highlights there is an issue to begin with.
