Eugene Golubtsov - aka Lugerman - has been building beautiful .45 ACP Lugers base don the original DWM technical data package for the 1907 trial Luger for a little while now. We previously looked at one of his standard guns, and today I have a chance to do some shooting with the long-barrel target model. Of all the different varieties he makes (compact, classic, target, hunter, and carbine, in both .45 ACP and 10mm Auto) I think this is hands down the most awesome. And unlike the other .45 Lugers I have shot, these actually work!
And that's exactly what a gun like this is for; to be awesome. Like a Rolex or a Ferrari, it is an extravagant example of what is possible beyond the limitations of practicality. For the people who can afford to indulge in this sort of thing, I think that it is a fantastic blend of historical inspiration, match accuracy, and solid reliable pistolsmithing. It sure does make that spinner look easy...

Glad you are enjoying the .45, Ian! Warms my heart to see these videos. I still remember cleaning, fitting, and blueing our first batch of machined parts for the .45. So amazing to have seen it go so far. Even more amazing to see the joy we have brought to people. Enjoy, and stay safe out there 😊

You guys have all my respect for the fit and finish on those pistols. I've done just enough work on a mill and lathe in my time to know there is no way in hell I could make anything that works this reliably. Made a few muskets over the years, but this is several orders of magnitude more difficult.

I think he was looking forward to it, actually. I still remember the side to side comparison between Karl's 9mm Luger and Ian shooting a Lugerman 45ACP reproduction to see the difference the caliber would make when shooting at the spinner, and he was also able to easily get the spinner in a few shots. This one having a 7in barrel and better sights, must've been a breeze for him, seeing how easy he got the spinner shooting the standard reproduction ;).

ramjb I remember that. I think he actually pulled it off in four shots, and Karl theorized if he hit top-bottom-top he could get it in three. So, yeah, Ian pulled off that three-shot spin here.

Hand made custom pistol that actually works? The price is actually reasonable. You can buy a $10000 Kia or a $10000000 Bugatti (i know they are actually more than that). Both cars but for entirely different clientele.

Two things. Against the tall steel target, 05:25, it is interesting to see the dust kicked up in a perpendicular line as the fragments of the shattered slug strike the ground. When Ian is slow shooting, it is interesting to me to see his hands/arms flinch anticipating recoil. I know I do it, much as I want to relax and hold steady, it amazes me that someone as experienced as Ian also does it. I feel better now knowing I'm not alone. Spinning the spinner was NEAT! I've not seen one of those before.

i remember reading a now forgotten comic (see what i did there?), called the Iron Ghost. imagine a more violent and vengeful vigilante in nazi germany during wwii. it was a favorite of mine and his weapon of choice was to dual wield two 45acp lugers. i always thought it was just a fabrication for the fictional world of the comic, it even stated that there were only a handful ever made in that version of history. i really want one of these now!

Ian's a Bullseye shooter, right? Seeing him go "Hard mode" in the classic Bullseye stance reminded me, but as soon as I saw the thumbnail, I thought this would make an awesome Bowling Pin gun. (I'd take the 10mm "Hunting" gun with a shoulder stock, if I had the disposable income. I can't afford it, not even close, but a guyl can dream.)

When I was a kid my dad had a Luger copy in 32acp I don’t remember the make. It would have been a really cool, fun plinker but it jammed every two or three rounds. It sure looked cool sitting in the gun cabinet though.

The only known example of the 1907 trials Luger is housed at West Point Military Academy. I don't know that they would let anyone handle it, even Ian. DWM made a few other .45 ACP pistols over the years, and they are all expensive collectibles, but they aren't dimensionally identical to the 1907 model the way that the Lugerman guns are.
