A good ideea if i may, is to try to convert Cagliari and Ajaccio into towns. Thre tricky part about Sicilly is the economy which is quite weak at the beginning, plus Palermo is quite good, and Tunnis is a good Staging point for attacks against the Moors. Also going for Constantinopole is a strong move also i belive. Quite new to your channel man, love to see some good old Rome TW end MED 2. Great content keep up the good job !

Also it is accurate to go for the byzantines from a historical point of view as the Normans, Who are actually a bit Franks, a bit Gallo-Romans and a bit Vikings ( a history student here who specializes in the Middle Ages and absolutely loves Roman history.
@saguntum-iberian-greekkons70142 жыл бұрын
@@cosmincostinescu8386 exactly, well the Normans are more Gallo-Romans, they were franks only in name and the real franks were very few (around 200,000 if i remember) and located mostly around Paris and Aachen, i doubt there were actually germanic franks in Normandy before and during the Norman Duchy. I find fascinating the Norman culture, how they were so powerful, they could had made an Empire if they really wanted to. Im interested in their language as well but Internet has so few articles about Old Norman, the only exception being History with Hilbert

After playing a few VH/VH with Sicily, I found it's way easier to just storm Italy right from turn 1, starting with the Papal States and Rome and then just moving north until you have all of Italy. If you leave Cagliari and Tunis alone the Moors will not come after you until much later and by the time they come you should have over 20 settlements already and in a position where you will only lose if you do it on purpose. You will have 0 money problems that way. Now, I can concede that the fact that I only tried this when I was already very comfortable playing on VH/VH could be a big reason behind the success (though the fact that you'll have tons of cash still applies), and also, sometimes i like to role play a bit and try to keep the Pope happy, and if you also do this, then it's not the ideal approach. But the advantages are enormous because you'll have an easier game not having to bother with multiple borders and only focus North in the early game. My initial troops + a few mercs and couple of Cav reinforcements from Palermo was enough to own the whole of Italy by turn 10, including Innsbruck as well which is good to have so you can pump out Cav without having to ship them from Palermo at this point. After that you will have so much cash you can do whatever you want. Most of Sicily's early game cash problems come from the fact that you have to keep multiple armies and ships in order to Island hop all the time, if you ignore the Islands and just move 1 large force across Italy, you'll have no financial troubles whatsoever.
@unkownoflife59594 жыл бұрын
I played a competely different way and it worked out well too. Heres what you gotta do 1. Take Caglari and change it into a city 2. Take Tunis and keep it as a castle 3. Make sure to send good priests down to those areas 4. VERY IMPORTANT be allies with the papal states 5. Send priests down to your conqured rebel settelments, with the amount of catholic conversion, they are gaurenteed to become cardinals. 6. If florence is not taken, take it so you can have a spot in northern italy. Phase 2. Try to make allies with HRE and venice or milan vice versa. This gaurentees a saftey in northern italy for a short while. 2. (Optional) You can take Ajaccio but its highely likely milan will try to take that settlement, owned by you or not. Now that you got a good stronghold, you will begin to fight alot of battles. Phase 3. Go after the moors by attacking Algiers. They will most likely be spread out by fighting spain and porgugal so you have your advantage. Also bonus the fact you are converting these settlements to catholism, your realtions with the pope will rise signifigantly and will gain more cardinals. 2.At this point, its highely likely your allies will betray you, and with the pope loving you so much, he will problay excomunicate them allowing you to take their settlements with no problems. 3. Call a crusade on the betrayers, this allows you to gain a massive army very quickly and cheaply. Or you can call one on the moors, but you problay wont. 4.Once you start taking parts of norther italy, you will have a huge rise in your economy, allowing you to build massive armys. 5.Either change Ajaccio or florence to a castle, this is very important because you will need good units to keep controll of the northern. At this point you should of defeated the moors and have majority of nothern italy and north africa/southern peninsula. Spain and porgugal might attack you in the peninsula so dont be surprised. I also find it very hard to ally with france, and they will most likely attack you but they will problay be the only hard challenge you face. Its best to let the remaining factions attack you, that way you dont get a penalty fighting them first. IT IS CRUCIAL to keep good boy points for the pope as the papal states are your lifeline. They will help in battles and excommunicate enemys. After all that fighting, stick to fighting islamic factions or the byzantine empire (I personally never attacked them, i allied). Over time with all the populations being converted in the islamic part of the map, they will give you tons of cardinals, allowing an infinite election of sicilly cardinals as popes. Also join crusades so you can spread your empire in these islamic reigons faster. In my game, my empire looked like a crown, counquring all of the southern mape, the iberian peninsula, and all of the middle east and majorty of turkey, along with venice.

I agree with not pushing north, especially since you only share a border with the Imperials at the start. They will inevitably attack, but they'll probably only send herds of town and spear militia, so dealing with them shouldn't be too difficult. I also like the plan to take the islands early, though I wouldn't be worried about the Moors attacking them if you're also attacking them in North Africa. Spain and Portugal might try it, but you'll be pushing into their homeland soon enough. Once you have the western Mediterranean secured, you can convert them to cities and make a bunch more money from them. Once I have a good army in North Africa, I would probably also hop across that sea to the East of Italy, take Ragusa, hopefully make peace with Venice (but if not, just defend there), and then start going after the Byzantines. Kinda silly to only attack on one front once the war economy really gets going. Especially with all the money that will be coming in from Timbuktu and Arguin. Egypt is so far away, I'm not sure I would bother unless they start sending big armies toward Tripoli.
@lugotorix61735 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think pushing north is just a bad idea. I like your idea about moving to the East of Italy, especially as the Byzantines can be fairly weak by that point
@Brugar185 жыл бұрын
@@lugotorix6173 I think a good idea would probably be taking away Genoa, maybe Venice to weaken their economy, otherwise they can become a bit annoying with their sieges and if they get excomunicated, they can also not be afraid to cross papal states and try take on Naples. In any case, I currently play as Sicily and now im at the late game, most of the time the economy was shit, and got ~20 settlements left to take over including Jerusalem and less than 60 turns, but I'm thinking of epanding through all the towns that have ports directed to mediterenian and probably sail of to Americas.

Heres the thing with going after Timbuktu. If the Moors don't hold it you have send a half stack army after it and it takes 10 turns to get there and you need to have one priest as well. It will take another 10 turns or so of supporting your army and paying for improvements, merchants for the settlement before you start seeing a positive cash flow. It takes like thirty turns for it to payoff. Not saying it's a bad strategy but ask yourself if that's the best use for those resources early on or if it can wait.
@ardypangihutan365310 ай бұрын
1. Spam priests in North Africa and fill the board of cardinals with Sicilian priests. No one beats you in papal election. 2. Always give the Papal States regular tribute and you'll have a constant perfect/outstanding relation with them. 3. Surround the coast with watch towers 4. Build fleets (2 half stacks of War Galley or Lanternas to clear the sea of pirates and intercepting enemy fleets, with some galley parked in ports to transport family members) 5. Don't worry about battles, you have a potent unit roster from early game. Just sit around and wait for others attack one of your island, beat them and offer ceasefire for 10k florins 6. Play Godfather theme song 7. Enjoy owning a giant private lake called the Mediterranean, filled with cute trading ships roaming around.

Ally with Papal States, HRE, and Milan. Venice has always been devious when I play Sicily, and whittling them down and taking them out can catapult your economy into superpower-level status, making it much easier to consolidate all of Italy.

An experienced player would probably go either for the moors and iberia or the moors and egypt at the same time, but defenetly the moors, as they're occupied by the iberians and you get a lot of money there. Probably the byzantinzes would also be a good target to attack. As sicily one should secure the mediteranian sea i would say, but that's the cool thing about sicily. You have so many options to expand, you're in the middle of the map. About the units, I kind of like faction with access to decent composite bow units (like sicily or venice), because even though crossbows are beast, they have problems firing over troops or battlements and also their rate of fire is slower. Composite bows don't have that problem, so it's good to have this option. And they get chivalric knights, norman knights and good heavy infantry. So all in all one of the strongest faction in my opinion. Sicily defenetly has something to it.

So I went completely opposite to what Lugo said... I took the two western islands, capped that small castle just east of Naples (across the water below Ragusa) then took Venice, Florence, Milan and Genoa because the milanese and the Venicians had sent their armies out into France and Hungary, I had and alliance with the pope from turn 1 so I wasn't excommunicated and I had an alliance with the holy Roman's as well, I then took Tunis and now want to take Tripoli as well, after that I'm not sure what to do, I could take rome and push the HRE out afterwards, or leave them be as my allies and either push into France, or take north Africa... tough decision
