You have no idea how much this video helped me. I’m 42 years old and my whole life I’ve thrown a straight ball in the last two weeks. I’m trying to put a hook on the ball so I can do a nice curveball. I’m having a hard time but I went to my local bowling alley today and this help me out a lot, made my role a little bit better but I just need to practice more, but thank you for this information and help me out a lot

VIDEO SUGGESTION..How to select the right bowling ball. I've been watching a lot of bowling videos and hear mention of references like stored energy. So even though the lanes might be heavy oil a strong ball might not be the best choice? What is your thought process on ball selection based on lane conditions and pin leave?

Do a drill with a towel in between your elbow and hip bone, and don’t let the towel drop. That will force your elbow to stay behind the ball.

Nice one Luis.... Practice with purpose. I practice my approach and release in my basement when my schedule doesn't allow me to get to the lanes to practice as often as I would like. My axis tilt is between 35-40 degrees and I keep my hand under the ball. Only practice will maintain. These videos are good to have in your catalogue so when I suggest your channel to my friends and to folks who come up to me when i am practicing, they can look you up and find informative videos like this on top of your awesome ball reviews. 👍

I love this video, and the overall transparency with trying to improve your release. I'm currently working on the same and one suggestion that was made to me that I think has helped is when you're in your starting position, the V between your index and middle fingers should be straight up facing the pins to help keep your elbow in. It definitely felt very uncomfortable at first, but I am seeing and feeling the difference. Because I notice that your hand is tilted in while in your starting position similar to me. But good luck and keep it going!

Also Luis if you want to try this, it really helped for me. I put the weight of the ball in the setup to the right of my hand. So I set my hand up like a backup ball almost and it was soooo much easier to release up the back. But fine tuning it is very hard for me. I can get up the back but if I want to choose between 20 degrees and 40 degrees? I can’t do it.

One thing that may be helpful for you Luis is ensuring your body is out of the way on your down/forward swing. May be too much to incorporate quickly but if you reference someone like EJ Tackett; my man gets his push away on line and then escapes the swing path making it almost impossible to chicken wing. Hopefully I explained that correctly. Anyhow, good vid bro.

Lou--It seems that your hand position, in your setup, is approximately at 4 or 5 o'clock, even if the inside of your elbow is tight to your ribs. Wouldn't a hand position of closer to 6 or even 7 o'clock further promote keeping the elbow "inside"? Have you ever tried that?

Just a note but your talking about showing examples of what you did wrong in the past and overlay with improvement yet not shown in edit. It makes the video seem incomplete or that the editing was rushed and it wasnt added. Just a tip and not trying to be rude, simple recommending if your incorperating things when you speak make sure you add them in editing :)

Nice job, seems like you cut down on some rotation. I noticed in the full approach at the end that you have fixed your timing. If you pause right at 15:31 you are just starting the slide and your arm is parallel to the approach on the down swing with just a touch of bend in the elbow. Practice paying off

I’ve watched a lot of these exact types of videos, everyone says to come straight being the ball, yet every one looks like the and is on the side when they are releasing. Yet it is never covered. How does it go straight when you are on your knees yet hook when you are using an approach if you do the exact same thing? Where are you adding rotation to get the hook?

@juggernaut0629
@juggernaut0629 3 ай бұрын
Slow feet. Stay within yourself ( don’t overthrow )Keep your head still. Look at target with just your eyes. Swing close to slide ankle, through the ball , elbow in , hand working the inside of the ball. Hand follows through the ball after release , reach for your target - and bring the inside of your bicep to your throw side ear. Focus on your technique until it’s natural. In today’s game and lane conditions, normal house shots. Start out looking at 3 board targets. If 10 is your target, allow yourself 1 brd left and 1 brd right. As you get more accurate. Cut it down to 2 boards. When you get where you can consistently target and roll your ball over 1 board. You’ll be ready to learn how to play every arrow/ targeting spot on the lane. Don’t pigeon hole yourself into only playing the 1st 15 boards of the lane.

This is not legal for Bowling, but what I did was add a lot more side weight using metal washers then that forces you to release, right. If release correctly that ball will hook a whole lot we could throw it out to the edgeboard and it always come back even a urethane. Release it incorrectly. It won’t hook at all.

I’ve watched both this video as well as your “How to hook a bowling ball video” and in all of your drills you talk about keeping everything straight and how the ball should go straight. However, at about 11:38 in this video you throw a ball and you aren’t keeping your hand behind the ball and aren’t releasing straight like you were in the previous video or in this one up to that point. It’s as if you left out the step of how to actually throw/release to achieve the hook. Nearly every how-to video online does this. Yours, Brad and Kyle, The Art of Bowling, etc. Everyone shows the same drills to throw a straight ball and those are great drills if you want to learn how to throw the ball straight. No one shows the last step of how the release should look to achieve a hook. Keeping your hand behind the ball, thumb pointed at the pins, fingers out last get you the same results as the drills: a straight ball.
