It won't. Mavs gutted their team after that WCFs run. They will be bad next season regardless of Luka/ Kyrie. Two players (essentially playing the same position) can't beat a team of players, especially with a roster around them that my girl could have done a better job of constructing..... & she doesn't even watch basketball

@@1capatter Luka is the sort of player that is very tough to build around. He needs the ball all the time, so you can't trade for another star who also needs the ball (like Kyrie) that would reduce their effectiveness. He also doesn't play defense, so you need 4 other players who are great defenders to cover his flaw. He also plays slow, so you can't get players that play run and gun for his team. He's a great player, but his limited style of play makes him very hard to built a contender for.

@@youngbae5187 That sounds more like what I would hear from an NBA analyst/ tv, it's nonsense. GM's have him as the top player they'd choose to build a franchise around followed by Giannis. They know a lot better than you or me. Mavs were literally in the WCFs last year starting thwo undrafted players. The squad is badly constructed. It was badly constructed before & got worse. Luka has a + 0.4 deffenive efficiency rating (literally a net tneutral/ doesn't help or hurt on defense). He ranked #3 among all PG's in defensive efficiency rating this season and was #1 last season. PG's can't defend as a whole, they're the first line of defense, it's a teams job to defend. The issue is, the Mavs only have four + defenders that play significant minutes. Kyrie (who is also a neutral defender/ his defensive woes are also a media hoax) , Josh green (who actually has a good defensive rating) and Maxi. When only two players are decent defenders (Maxi/ Green) then you are screwed. They also have no bigs/ rebounding/ paint protection. The Mavs bought in a GM with zero experience (came from Nikee), they are the only team in the NBA that has a GM that has never worked in that position or line of work before.... and are now paying the price. Mavs got many issues, the very last issue they have is Luka or even Kyrie for that matter

@@1capatter That's because Luka is the sort of player who can 1 man carry the team to relevance, but to be a perfect championship team, you need the perfect pieces for Luka, that is hard to find. This dude has Porzingis and Kyrie and played shyt with both. Lol. His weaknesses are glaring. Only effective with the ball, 0 defense, complain to refs, can't play off ball, slow down the pace etc. Giannis is able to mesh with everybody because he can play off ball catching oops and plays DPOY defense. That's the difference and why Giannis is a champ.

@@youngbae5187 Porzingis played wonderfully when he first got to Dallas, then he got injured again and was irrelevant his last playoff run with the Mavs. Achilles injuries are tricky and need time to come back from. Luka/Porz looked great their first year and posted the best offensive rating in NBA history at the time... then he got hurt. Kyrie and Luka look fine together to me (IMHO). Kyrie's putting up his best statistical avg in forever playing alongside Luka. The problem is the overall construction of the team. It's like saying LBJ and AD are bad to build around when the Lakers were sticking it up... It wasn't them, it was the team the Lakers constructed around them. As soon as they tweaked it, the Lakers went from not even being the 10th seed (playoff-bound) to being in the mix. It's not an accident that the Mavs were #5 in the West when they made the Kyrie trade & #4 before he suited up for a game... then stunk it up. They lost 3 starters on a team with no depth already. One player can't replace three players no matter how good he is, especially players that played a completely different role
