For everyone who doesn’t understand the beginning, he was intentionally hyperventilating which basically tricks the brain into needing less oxygen in a longer span of time while singing. Many singers do it before they perform. :)

Fun fact. The reason people breath into brown paper bags while hyperventilating is b/c it allows you to obtain more carbon dioxide. Because carbon dioxide helps something in your body which regulates your pH lvl in your blood. Although you would more then likely pass out before. if you kept hyperventilating without a bag and you didn’t pass out your pH lvl in your blood would slightly change and you would die.
