Like I said numerous times: Luke and Laura’s wedding was the biggest daytime TV event ever, until January 3, 1983; that day, three new game shows (Hit Man, Just Men!, and Sale Of The Century (the former two short-lived)) premiered on NBC while over on CBS, The Price Is Right debuted a brand new pricing game that would become an immediate favorite as up to $25,000 could be won. That game was *Plinko!*

My cousins Brian & Robin were devoted General Hospital watchers when in high school & college. I was born one year later and I still remember as a little kid Brian & Robin watched all the ABC soaps.

I remember getting out of school at 2:30 and taking the school bus and I was home at 3pm to watch this wedding, America’s wedding of the century compared to Prince Charles and Lady Diana In July !

By the way, you spelled her name wrong. It's spelled Genie. Yes I was glued to the TV and watched the big event. Coincidence there was also another wedding, Diane and Prince Charles. It's no wonder that Tony Geary moved to Amsterdam, he's very happy there. People there are more respectful, not that he was annoyed with the fans. Loved Luke and Laura's wedding.

Either the writing was way better back in the day. Or Tony Geary and Genie Francis did a great job acting wise selling Luke and Laura as a love story, considering how they started out.

Not to be negative but I could never understand why people would've been so excited about their wedding during this time. I'm 31 so I wasn't alive. However, when I was younger and watching GH with my mom I just couldn't understand why Laura married Luke even though he raped her. Now as an adult I still can not understand why people were so enamoured by their love story.

I was a baby, and don't remember. But now I do remember hearing something about a soap where a victim married her rapist. I wonder if this was the one. We still have a major love of rape-as-love as a society.... It's sickening.

I agree. The wedding was fabulous, Genie looked gorgeous, TG looked pretty somber until the end of the ceremony. He said it was a miserably hot day and so did Genie. I know from Interviews he never liked the fact that the rape turned into a love story that became so popular 30 million people tuned in for the wedding. He seemed pretty bitter in this interview. Well, Luke Spencer made him a very rich man, living in Amsterdam in obscurity. Count your blessings, Tony!
