I've always wanted to say that place name, and now I can! Thanks! We also have a place in NZ that's got a super long name: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu. It means "the summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the slider, climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his kōauau to his loved one". We just call it Taumata though lol

Taron in my opinion pronounced it better (since he does speak Welsh and spent his childhood there) although Luke definitely won the audience's heart more since he was the underdog here (as this was probably the first time he pronounced it in TV; his interview with Conan being the second) while Taron's had to deal with that question in most of his interviews. Luke's attempt was pretty good too (given how tough it can be for non-Welsh speakers to pronounce it), although he pronounced it better in the interview with Conan.

@EL JAY well his mom is from Wales his dad was English which is why he was born in Birkenhead. But they moved home to wales when he was very young. He went to a school that taught in the weah language too. So, he has welsh heritage AND spent most of his life there. So I would say so. If an indian couple was visiting Germany when the wife gave birth but they then went home and raised the baby in India speaking indian most people would say that kid is indian. Even if it may have Herman citizenship.througha technicality.

As a welsh person, growing up speaking welsh and saying words with ‘Ch’ and ‘Ll’ in them were easy. I understand how they can be difficult for non-welsh speakers (English monolinguals) it doesn’t mean that they can just butcher the sounds like cmon dude 😭 💀
