I was reading Adam Zamoyski's excellent biography of Chopin and learned that Chopin used to improvise for his friends late into the night whilst living in Paris. I also learned that he played a lot of Mozart in his youth. It was only a short step to imagine that he might have improvised on Mozart's unforgettable themes and perhaps even reinvented them in his own style.
In this composition I took my favourite of Mozart's piano works, his Fantasia in D minor K397, and attempted to recreate it as Chopin might have done. I hope you enjoy my experiment!

This was so beautiful, it felt like it was piercing into my soul. After three years of utter failure to get back into writing, listening to this soulful piece has given the inspiration that I felt I was never going to get again. Got chills! Beautiful! And well combined Chopin, Mozart and a bit of your unique style. I think it's a good idea to do these kinds of experiments, learning from other composers. Merely improvising is good too, releases from reading music to actually coming up with own new music (usually *good* music if you combine composers the likes of Mozart and Chopin!)

Is this piano a Steinway one? Well,you made me go to heaven on my thoughts,thanks for composing such piece of art. Really,it's 7:54AM here and I didn't sleep because some problems,and this made my stress just go off,made my mind clear and rested. Omg. I love your techniques! I love worship music, but often times I become frustrated listening to the way the pianists play because it's clear that they haven't had formal training. I'm a pianist myself, and often times find myself critiquing piano songs more than being able to enjoy them. I love this song and the way that you have improvised this. I love that wonderful Steinway sound. I was fortunate to be able to learn what piano I did on one of the last pieces created under Henry Z, while he was still president of the company. A final Steinway from the final Steinway, and oh my goodness was it such a gorgeous sound. Very enjoyed this piece - only wish I'd stuck with the lessons so I could come half as half as close to as good as this.

I have just one petition or idea: Do you think you could make kind of a tutorial or some essential pattern to write romanticism music? I would be so thankful if you made that. Please!
@LukeFaulkner
@LukeFaulkner 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your lovely comment, Mr. D :) I wish I could make a tutorial on that but the truth is I cannot always pull it off myself! There are a few rules about form and harmony, but inspiration only comes from years of immersing yourself in the repertoire. I'd recommend listening to lots of Chopin both passively (in the background) and actively (listening out for structure, harmonic movements, etc.) Sorry I can't be of more help.

I assume you know there are two basic frames of musical expressions, music set to arouse different emotional sensations and music with an ambition to convey more complex patterns from so-called spiritual or metaphysical levels of existence. I always search for music in which the emotional aspect is set the way it serves higher nature. This is what Mozart music is all about. You edited some Mozart patterns to reflect more "earthly" patterns of Chopin. This is an artistically clever and interesting move yet from the spiritual point of view this is a kind of descent. :-) You did it with a fine touch so it is definitely worth to listen. It is a detriment that Chopin was not able to reinvent high level of Mozart potentials. Eventually, Chopin's genius becomes ever more framed by his personality, and consequently by his often not too bright emotional state. Of course, his music is powerful yet, in my opinion, much "colored by earthly frequencies". I am glad you like Mozart! I am sure his music is a great positive source of inspiration for any composer.

Thank you for your message, Pol Aris! I have indeed come across what is often condensed to the "heart and head" dichotomy (head can be extended to include spirit). I enjoyed reading your application of this framework to Mozart and Chopin and essentially agree with your tenets, but would argue that Chopin wasn't necessarily the Marsyas to Mozart's Apollo. Mozart had a very different experience of life to Chopin, and their audiences were equally different. Mozart wrote for the "refined tastes" of the court, whereas Chopin wrote for the intimacy of the salon. Mozart was the prodigy touted all around Europe by his demanding father, with little time for an emotional life. Chopin had a happy childhood in Poland, which presumably fuelled his nostalgia and patriotism once it was invaded by the Russians. These backgrounds inevitably shaped their music, and both did a fair amount of work in providing an output that documents this. I feel subsequently imposing a spiritual hierarchy unfairly belittles the achievements of the losing composer, but would agree that Chopin's music is more earthy.

I agree entirely with you. After all, what we like and vibrate with is much about our "seasonal" psychological state and mood. Spiritual comes as a natural upgrade of "more earthly" and both are interdependent on all levels even more than we are able to comprehend.

I am hearing a little bit of Yiruma's vibe in the beginning or maybe Mozart influenced everybody.
