Played this iconic course in May 2023 and it was a great experience. Unique is not the word for a lot of the holes… the holes are crazy good and really make you hit good shots. Greens were very challenging (shot a 78 with 38 puts so you can see what happened to me…). If anyone gets to that area of the US to golf you must put this on the list to play.

I've been lucky enough to play there. We used to go to Myrtle Beach with a group of 8 guys from my work every year. That year we decided to go to the courses around Pinehurst. I had never heard of the place before we went. At that time I was the middle of the road golfer of the group shot probably 92 average, bad would be 100 great would be 85'ish. For some reason considering I am not a great golfer and how hard that course is I felt so good there and I just couldn't hit a bad shot there. Never three putted and probably 12 one putts and I shot my lowest score of any of our trips down south and lowest score in like 6 years for an 81. My golf buddies were like the ultimate hype squad on every shot because they never saw me play like that because even on holes that weren't par or birdie every shot was good. I almost holed out on that 9th hole by about 2" away.

Two things: 1: On number 8, NEVER go for that back right pin. Play a cut to the middle of the green, let it roll back there. 2: You can lift, clean and place the ball in all sand areas on the course, and ground your club. It’s a local rule the starter should’ve told y’all. I’ve played this course 30+ times, and this is one of the best videos I’ve seen of it. Great content!

Hi Luke, I’m Christian, I know you may not see this, but I just wanted to say thank you for putting your time into making your course management program I just checked it out and I loved it so I bought it. For the longest of time I’ve been looking for Something/someone to be able to help teach me the correct way to play golf because I have goals/dreams of maybe one day being a PGA tour pro. I’m self-taught, I’ve only played for three years and I’ve managed to get myself down to scratch golf but not consistently yet, but as I watch your course, management program, stuff that I thought I already knew is actually stuff I am learning more and more from. It’s crazy on how golf comes down to such tiny details and you’re helping me figure those tiny details out so I thank you. Also, I love your channel i’ve been watching you for the longest of time Keep up the amazing work that you put out for everyone to enjoy.

I was born in Pinehurst and lived in Sanford, NC for 5 years. Tobacco Road is indeed a unique and fun course. On 16 APR 2011, a killer tornado--which stayed on the ground all the way through Raleigh--cut the pine trees in half down the right side of the 9th fairway. It looked like someone stood on a ladder and sawed all of them in half about 15 feet up.

I live 10 minutes away from this course. Not a whole lot else going on in my little town of Sanford. Bit it's close to So. Pines and Pinehurst, so it gets a lot of play. And having worked the bar in those areas, I've learned people either love this course or hate it. Friendly tip: if you are looking to have fun and catch a buzz with your buddies, you'll love it. If you are the type of person that never laughs and take golf way too seriously, you're gonna hate it. Helps to get a heads up from someone that's played it before bc there are tons of blind shots and overall weirdness. But once you know the layout and where you should aim, it's not nearly as tough as a lot of people would have you believe.

You have to come back here and play it in late summer! What a beautiful course!

I played Tobacco Road in the early 2000s and dang it was hard. Felt like everything was a blind shot. The bunkers are massive and deep. Very different than any other type of course. I will probably never play it again and my daughter’s house is 30 minutes away in the golf mecca Pinehurst area. North Carolina is blessed with many hundreds of top courses. The western NC mountain courses are spectacular. Pinehurst Resort will host the US Open in 2024 and this course will see a lot of play in June. Like Sean it took 3 shots for me to exit that same bunker. Oh, and those bells. They save lives because you cannot see when others are on or off the green. Those scores are damn good for that beast.
