I believe that Am is, and I will fight who disagrees with me, the smartest rugby player in the world. Am is one of the best, if not the best defensive players in the world. He couldn't read attacking plays better, even if the scrumhalf was telegraphing them with signalling flags. He can read any attack and can make exactly the right move to instantly shut it down. Kolbe doesn't do that much tackling, because very rarely does the ball get past Am.

Not sure we need to fight but yeah he's up there... tough to say who else, Baptiste with France reads the game well. Cooney with Ireland as well. Ben Smith always there. Tipuric among forwards...

Well, I have to agree with Mario on that one, Am is so overrated, I don't see how he could ever be considered the best centre in the world, but you can have your own opinion I guess.

A sharks fan but have been following this guy since he joined the kings. Doesn't get the recognition he deserves because he might not be as flash as some other centres. But my word his work rate and consistency is incredible. He does all the hard work that many centres don't. He gets turnovers, his tackle completion is great and just in terms of reading the game he's awesome. He knows exactly where to be at the right time and doesn't make mistakes. He reminds me of Conrad Smith a bit.

Am reminds me of Peter Whip. For those of you for whom that doesn't ring a bell , he was a WP and Springbok center who basically made his game about making the other guy looks good. Several players over the years like Carel Du Plesis have mentioned Whip as an unappreciated facilitator of tries and one of the most influential players of his time .

He's a natural born line breaker! The angular profile of his runs makes him a very difficult opponent to tackle, and he always times interceptions to a tee. He has amazing ball handling skills and a high level of intelligence for the game in general, he's Rugby's midfield maestro.

I remember that English three game tour of SA. One of the English coaches didn't know who Am was when asked about him and what threat he poses to England. I remember thinking: "You may not know him now, but you will. Oh you will."

Very good player, with a lot of skills. But "world class"? One of the things I'm impressed with in watching this video is his calmness under pressure. He doesn't seem like he ever panics. I don't know we can say he'd be selected at centre for a World XV today, though. Again, he's a good player, but not exactly setting the world alight. He's the talk of the rugby world?

South Africa has the most average players overall but when combined & motivated they become deadly. A team with minimal superstars that produces such results is amazing to watch.

Most European teams are filled with South African talent that you call Average from Your best teams Exeter, Harlequins, Sale, Munster, Toulouse,Toulon, La Rochelle Name players that are better than that bok starting 15

You mean most Bok players would be 3rd choices in your World Squad? Boks are current Rugby championship, World and B&I Champs. They must be very good average group or you are Australian because Aussies hate us so much it makes no sense we are not even in same league. When was last time you won anything. Our front row is average? Eben, Mostert, PSDT, Vermuelen, Faf, DE Allende, Am, Mapimpi, le Roux, Colbe and Siya ofcause.... Just average. 🤭🤭

Sorry to spoil the party, but to be a “great” I would expect line breaks and tacklers getting bounced. I think he’s good and getting better but comparing him to Danie Gerber is ridiculous. Look on KZfaq for videos of him in action. Would love to see Johan Goosen given a shot at 13. Huge mistake not to pursue Rohan Janse van Rensberg at 12.

They were blady amatuers and to deny thst fact just means you have blinders on. They used to smoke at half time breaks so dont tell me about players who played 50 years ago. If you csnnot see what Am brings to the table then you are lost, if you watch full games of him you will quickly realise thst he is consistently one of the best players on the field for the boks. His game intelligence is through the roof. Its either your not big into rugby or you just biased
