Marigolds are not just beautiful flowers, but also useful in the gardens, culinary (for some) and medicinal for others.

Hey Luli, thinking about your family and pray that ya'll are better and doing well. 💐💐 I have a quick question for you. Do you also dry and preserve the Marigold leaves and what do you recommend using it for? I planted some watching your videos and just made a harvest and dried the flower leaves. I did wash mine and dried it with a paper towel, cut the flowers off and then put it in the dryer. Hope to hear from you soon. Best wishes and Happy 4t of July 🙏🇺🇲

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. I am slowly recovering. Thank you for your question, personally, I don't use marigold leaves. I've heard they can be used just as flower pedals, however, I have never used them. Sorry, I have read that marigold leaves have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Leaf infusion may be used as throat rinse to ssoth sore throat. Sorry, I don't have more information for you.

Sunflowers are very medicinal. All parts are useful for different things. The root has been used to support people with kidney stones, smooth muscle relaxant, and bronch/vasodialator. The flower pedals are dried and used in teas ( a little bitter) used as antipyretic ( lowers fevers). Leaves are dried and used in teas as mild diuretic (removes extra fluid by urination). I should do a video about it 👍😀🌞

Thanks, very interesting. Can you explain the misinformation out there about tagetes versus calendula? What in your experience is the main difference? I hear tagetes (the kind in your video) is mildly poisonous. I've eaten them and I don't feel it is, but it can upset the stomach. I just made an oil with the tagetes in your video and massages my cat with it, thinking it was the calendula flower. I then read that it is indeed tagetes, and they're not safe for cats! I messaged into my face and I liked the effect it has on my skin. Also, what is anyone's opinion on the smell? Is marigold a good smell? I never thought it was a perfume smell.

Why do you not recommend washing the flowers first?
@lulishomestead6767
@lulishomestead6767 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. There are several reasons why I don't wash some herbs.. 1. Where i live is frequently rains. I try to harvest on a dry day. They are clean. 2. If there are any bugs, they run away when I leave the flowers on the table for 1-2 hours ( they will not stay on a dead flower). 3. My flowers are tall, they grow about a knee tall, which is high from the ground. Tall flower are clean. 4. Another reason is because I try not to bring more moisture. 5.. If the plans is low to the ground, and looks dusty, the I WASH it.
