Phoenix Music International is pleased to present the official archive video of Lulu performing her hit song, 'Boom Bang-a-Bang', live at the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest in Madrid.
'Boom Bang-a-Bang' saw Lulu crowned the winner of the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest, along with Salomé singing "Vivo cantando" for Spain, Lenny Kuhr singing "De troubadour" for the Netherlands and Frida Boccara singing "Un jour, un enfant" for France. 'Boom Bang-a-Bang' achieve great chart success following the contest, with the song reaching No. 2 in the UK Singles chart and subsequent versions recorded in French, German Italian and Spanish.

I am now 69 years old. I was 14 (almost 15) years old back then, and living in Spain in 1969 . I remember the hype about this particular Eurovision, and also remember watching the show live. Instantly, I loved Lulu and this song. I did not know a single word that she was saying; and I was mesmerized by that. I bought the 45 RPM of Lulu singing this song, and brought it with me to the US when we relocated to New York. I knew the French words to the French and Spanish songs, though. I left Madrid on December 23, 1969 and landed in New York, and to this day, I have never gone back. I was main-streamed at school at the beginning of 1970. By December of 1970, I knew the language, and the next time I played the song, I knew all the words...I still have that record that I bought in Madrid in 1969 as a keepsake. 😃

I’m portuguese and 65 and I also remember quite well. I loved Lulu’s expressions and even if at the time I didn’t understood a word boom bang a bang was quite catchy for a child. And don’t worry about stupid childish people like @Mike8981… just ignore them. Congrats. 😊

I've always loved listening and watching Lulu my entire life and I'm now 58 ! So i think we can say she did alright in her career lol. Cracker of a song that, cheesy but i still love it even now.

@@quintenwitteman9344, there is so much wonderful music from the 60s, 70s and into the 80s. Try asking Alexa for one year at a time and you get a great play list, not just the pop hits. If Alexa stops say ‘Alexa keep playing’ to drill down into the year even more! Remember, one year at a time!

As a 7and 8 year old, i remember watching her shows every week. I think they were on TV every Saturday night? Didn't quite understand the lyrics to those songs but, i thoroughly enjoyed the tunes. It was all Rhythm unlike todays music.

Is she the puppy in the window one. The biggest lulu I know is from Harry Enfeild Oh how we howled at that 💩. Me and my brother would always try to make each other have acceidents anyway. But after we saw that awhile we let our sister start playing.

Songs were happier stuff then. Singers and musicians had to be a lot better than today. And they were. The eurovision atmosphere was so much better to later years. Mayb Uk and Ireland can get around to improving . For a good while now they have been poor.

So quite entitled to be in Eurovision for the UK! Also, Eurovision is for countries whose broadcasters have joined the European Broadcasting Union - it includes Israel and Australia! The ESC started in 1956 (the EBU 1950).
