These two cameras are reeeaaally close in price and each one punched way above their price point... but in different areas. We will be diving deep into their image quality differences, dynamic range, physical features, ibis, usability and finally their autofocus. Everything that is mentioned in this video also applies to the Lumix S5iix as well!

Hasn’t come out yet! I’m stoked about that though. Although it is heavier, slightly slower AF and the tamron actually one of the most interesting flares. Sony still has more choices though! Regardless I’m stoked at the possibility of 35-150 for lumix

@@AllCarsUnited Sorry for your experiences with the S5 II AF, I shoot high end Events and the AF works at 95% of my Sony’s. Certainly trustworthy for my Professional work. Once you understand how to properly use the AF Modes your experience should change. There is nothing wrong with the AF in its current state but even then it should get better as updates are rolled out. I saw some of your earlier post. If Sony is a better fit for you, don’t hold on to a Camera that cripples your creativity. Years ago I was an all Canon Shooter, then Sony, now LUMIX all for different reasons.

Excellent comparison! One important factor you didn't mention is the price of buying used (which widens the price gap even further). Right now, you can get the Lumix S5II from MPB for roughly $1,500, while the ZV-E1 can be had for about $1,900 used. That $400 difference can easily be put towards a lens or lighting.

Great video. I stumbled on your channel while investigating the zv-e1. I am also enjoying your other videos! I was a Sony shooter many years ago and loved the systems. Of late, however, I have been shooting Lumix. Recently, I just sold my s5iix but kept my S1h. The s1h despite the focus issues (which I really don’t think is that bad depending on use case) is an incredibly robust camera and I find proves a sense of confidence. I found the S5iix ergonomically to either not be big enough or small enough - so I had to let it go. (Great, great camera, though). To this end, I am now considering the zv-e1 as a compact everyday camera. The new S9 looked promising until I saw the body, which I kind of looks cheap to me. So have decided to give Sony a try again. You mentioned using a LUT to create a constant look between Lumix and Sony. I am just wondering how easy and effective this is? Was always taught to shoot with the same camera brand - but maybe times are changing - your results seem o counter this argument. This may be a good topic for an upcoming video (how on can create constancy across different Brands/platforms) - if you have yet done so. I like your philosophy of using different camera brands in order to benefit from different types of functionalities. That makes sense! Thanks again for a great video!

Thanks for the video, Anthony. As a Panasonic user, I do look with envy at some / many of Sony's offerings. I do admit that potential overheating is a MAJOR concern of rme. (I know that you didn't experience any overheating, but all of my three Sony aps-c bodies overheat like crazy, and too many other report of people using ZV-E1's and even a7 IV overheating, too). Not sure if you have any Canon EF lenses (and an MC-11 adapter), but if you do, would love to know how EF glass pervorms on the ZV-E1 in video autofocus.

I'm not sure, but in S5IIX, in AF tracking mode, by clicking on the object, there is a point that keeps the focus on the object. Maybe this isn't available in the S5II, but I doubt it.
@AnthonyRodriguezz
@AnthonyRodriguezz 3 ай бұрын
But it’s not accessible in every AF mode like Sony. This makes it easier to simply tap it whenever you need as opposed to pressing multiple buttons to go into a dedicated tracking mode whenever you need it. This is far from ideal for professional scenarios. Not to mention, it’s far from the stickiness that Sony has 😭
@OasisExplorer
@OasisExplorer 3 ай бұрын
@@AnthonyRodriguezzFor me the tracking should not be available in every mode. I don't want the AF to track most of the time and I select the tracking AF mode in my S5IIX when I specifically need it, thats more convenient and simpler for me. Its all about different needs and preference and thats why different options exist in the market. 🙂
@AnthonyRodriguezz

… that’s when spot focus exists. The thing I mentioned was having the option to use accurate touch tracking whenever you need it by tapping the screen. I can’t think of a situation where that is not beneficial…
@OasisExplorer
@OasisExplorer 3 ай бұрын
@@AnthonyRodriguezz Well, spot focus only has old school contrast based focusing and does not utilize the phase detection AF AFAIK. It's not much quicker, not much accurate in focusing the moving objects. It's there for the still photographers. So not helpful in videos unless you want to lock the focus distance by turning it into manual after focusing once. So again, three AF modes have three different types of focusing features serving different purposes in the Lumix. 🙂

I am a little confused on the autofocus issue, you can very well tap to focus on the S5II/X, you can even choose for it to track or not. Also I have been using it for weddings and in very crowded place and 99% of the time it focused where I wanted it too. For sure the Sony autofocus is better since they perfected it for years, but I'd say not by a large margin. After taking time (not even that long of a time) to know how the autofocus on my S5IIX behave I never had any issue. Edit : The issue I have with the lumix is when something goes in front of the subject then it switches focus. So I mapped a button to lock focus whenever I see someone or something that is about to go in front of my subject.

The Sony is much more usable and solid AND I don’t have to go to switch touch tracking on to use it on the fly. I was referring to touch tracking not touch to focus. @@AnthonyRodriguezz User error? Thats not user error. The ZV-E1 is a horribly designed camera and should not be used by professionals. The standard temp setting is the temp threshold that Sony considered safe for the camera's hardware to operate under. When you set the camera to "High Temp" you're telling the camera that you are ok with pushing the thermal bounds that Sony considers safe and therefore will likely degrade the hardware sooner. Sure setting it to high temp mitigates the over-heating in most situations but not all and its well documented that the camera may still overheat when used for extensive periods. Just because you can tell a camera that its ok for it to run hot, does not make it a well designed camera or any less of a "disgusting crap." Sony can do better and should be doing better than pumping out these capable cameras with high specs in camera bodies that can't handle the temp making them unreliable. Comparing the S5ii/x and ZV-E1 misses the most important part of professional products and that’s reliability. The active cooling in the S5ii/x, FX3 or FX30 is what makes these devices professional. Missing focus because you’re relying on autofocus for a sat down interview frame though… that’s user error.

I have the s5ii. I prefer it over the ZV-E1 since it has that fan. That sony camera overheats. Terrible heat management on that.

@@AnthonyRodriguezz I've heard complaints about it and I've had sony mirrorless cameras in the past. They overheated on me shooting videos.

People complain a lot about cameras without actually using it themselves… it’s the camera culture we are a part of 😂 BUT from somebody that has actually used the camera first hand, I’m not worries about overheating
