@@NLJeffEU it’s slightly sweeter and less acidic than tomato ketchup from what I hear, but it’s a real thing. It’s usually dyed to get the same color as regular ketchup, but it’s popular in the Philippines. It also still tastes similar to ketchup too

@@Educatedindian123 it will be yummy if you add some of your choice of spices and seasonings. In the Philippines we seasoned it with salt and pepper... Me I even add some msg, turmeric powder or sometimes cheese powder or chili flakes try to experiment . Since you're an Indian you can add some Indian Masala of your choice then add it to your roasted eggplant with beaten eggs then fried it until golden brown. you can dip it you Indian chutneys of your choice.

Its actually supposed to be Torta Talong (Talong=egg-plant). You cook tomatoes, onions, garlic and ground beef together. Then chopped lil tiny potatoes so it's a bit crisp, then you put them all together and mix raw egg...and then you proceed to fry it with the torta like what she did...i have never seen anyone just dip eggplant in egg and then fry it lol. There's no such thing as a vegetarian filipino/a. 😂

In pangasinan, we don't use ketchup, we use bagoong (balayan sauce) with calamasi juice as sauce. It's the perfect way for me!

In Mexico we have a similar dish called Chiles rellenos. The only difference is it is a Chile pepper stuffed with cheese or meat of your choice. I’ve ate them with only cheese. Then the Chile is coated with the egg and it is accompanied with some tomato sauce.

Well the fact that the Philippines was colonized by Spain through her colony of "New Spain" (Mexico), and most of the Spanish immigrants came from the Spanish New World, it's no surprise that we'd have a lot in common. We're almost distant cousins even.

Yep..not big fan of their food though...not my taste..but I like their barbecue, penongs chicken, friend crispy chicken, sisig..these are my favourites..didn't like other dishes though..i think it's just my palate..I once tried to eat balut. I failed miserably

I worked with a lot of nurses from the Philippines at Johns Hopkins. Wonderful, hard working, and with a wacky sense of humor. I can't say enough good things about my former co-workers . Their food was a bit too spicy for me, but I was always glad to give it a try. They seem to use rice noodles like we use bread. . .

Not fillipino here but we have a similar dish in indonesia called terong raos. Theyre in smaller pieces and sauced with oil, spices, herbs and soy sauce. Nice never had that Filipino dish for a very long time my mom used to cook them just some Long Japanese Eggplant 🍆 cooked on a Stovetop or gas Stove cook it until peel it and dunk in the beaten eggs 🥚 and put in the frying pan 🍳 and put it on top of Rice 🍚 I grew up in a Filipino family it’s so delicious 🤤.
